Lever has only played VFL reserves so far.
Maybe thats why there is more interest in Archer.
Archer rucked in VFL seniors last year though it wasn't a good role for him.

I imagine there will be some thinking along the following lines this week at selection

Kosi in ruck = loss, Wilkes at FF = loss

Archer in ruck = loss, Kosi at FF = win

Kosi LT health at FF > Kosi LT health in the ruck

Archer is probably a show

Scotty suggests here that Kosi + Blake will have to share the duties, rather than someone coming in from vfl level to help out.

Given the club started the season light on for genuine ruck options, Watters will on Saturday be forced to use 189cm defender Jason Blake and 197cm forward Justin Koschitzke at centre bounces against Sydney.

"From a duty of care point of view I'll be forced to ruck a 189cm ruckman or a key position player - and they're going up against monsters."

Has Blake done much in the way of pinch hitting at the very least?

Probably a good thing 200kg+ Mumford isn't playing for the Swans or that could've been frightening!

Why don't the Saints focus on nullifying O'Keefe, Kennedy & Jack and in that order? Do that and we might have a fighting chance of beating them. Nudge nudge wink wink ;)

I'm pretty sure Blake took most of the ruck duty when we played your mob a few weeks ago. On paper he seems like a really poor choice, but you never realise how big his leap is. We're not talking Stanley or Naitanui big, but he has a pretty above average jump, which allows him to make a decent contest.

Personally I'd prefer that Blake takes most of the duties, and Gwilt comes in this week. That way his absence is covered in defence, and our forwardline structure is not upset. Of course, this restricts Gwilt's ability to rebound unless Gilbert becomes a stay-at-home defender. But that's only a minor issue, and should only trouble us this one time, with Fisher due to comeback next week.

As long as the Saints win the hard/loose ball gets this week and the clearances, I'll be happy regardless of the result. Because that's what the opponent will be focusing on! Take it away from them and then let's imagine the result! ;)

Of course this should also involve accounting for hard-bodied old fellas like O'Keefe. Surely we've got the legs for him and then some.

Expect a hard bodied game.

We can do it!

Just do it Saints. Do it.

Round 16 2008 -

11 kicks
12 handballs
5 marks
2 tackles
3 goals
13 hitouts
5 frees for and 2 against

T'was a BOG performance that should've seen him get Brownlow votes which instead went to Roo (3), Lenny (2) and Joey (1).

Oh whoops, duh! Thanks for that mate, that one completely slipped my mind. No arguments about his leap either, helps him to offset what he lacks in height for that position.

All the best against the swannies on Saturday :thumbsu:

their leading goal kickers for the year are interesting

He can definitely pinch hit.

By definition pinch hitting doesn't last 6 weeks though.

Blake always seems taller than he is. Its like his arms and legs are longer than normal or something.
He has all the smarts of a great ruckman, he's just 10cm too short.
I just looked at 10cm on a ruler... it doesn't seem like that much.

10cm in wing span too, so his reach becomes >15cm too short, then there's the 15kg+ at boundary throw ins.

swans dont have much in the way of rucks pyke was smashed by jamar last week and seaby by maric the week prior

Cool - when we throw our All-Australian ruckman (or our ruckman who is averaging 29 hitouts, 16 possessions and 3 tackles in 2012) then they'll be toast!!! :D

Considering Jamar is leading the competition in hit outs I thought Pyke did pretty well in his first game back...

You guys seem pretty confident for coming off 2 six day breaks and a trip from Perth, I'm expecting a tight one that could go either way as both teams have plenty to play for :thumbsu:

IN: James Gwilt, Arryn Siposs
OUT: Rhys Stanley, Beau Wilkes

INT: Ray, Siposs, Milera, Saad

Don't we have Gwilt set to come in?
Completely slipped my mind. Gwilt comes in to take Wilkes spot in the backline who moves forward.

Can we never ever play Wilkes back ever again? That was ugly.

I can see Gilbert spending parts of the game forward to be another marking option.

EDIT: Wilkes out surprised me, but there's every chance we haven't seen the final team yet. I'd be happy if the team stayed the way it is.

Tom Simpkin named at FULL FORWARD

WTF
