I have not seen alot of the youngsters so I was wondering if some of you guys would just help me out a little with your insight, thanks

Where would - Daniher / O'Meara / Viney / Crouch fit in the 2012 draft
I know people rate Lachlan Whitfield, Brodie Grundy, Jimmy Toumpas very highly aswell so was wondering in which order you would have them if they were all in together. and any other real quality youngster that I may have missed.

From what I have heard Daniher may have gone number 1. O'Meara was also up there for number 1. Viney was possibly top 3 at one stage but from some recent comments may have dropped to somewhere between 5-10. Possibly due to injury and form in U18 champs.
Whitfield seems the outstanding number 1 pick at this point and many are putting Grundy number 2.

Personally I would rate them:

1. O'Meara
2. Whitfield
3. Grundy
4. Danniher
5. Crouch
6. Mayes
7. Toumpas
8. Viney

From what I have seen O'Meara would have been the standout prospect in this draft, he has had a couple of unbelievable games pre-injury in the NEAFL against AFL reserve sides, Crouch would be the best true inside mid followed closely by Viney. Danniher and Grundy are the best two talls in this years draft, I rate Grundy slightly ahead but it is barely by a whisker.

This will be interesting regarding Viney, he very well could become a 2nd round selection for melbourne making him this years biggest steal.

Just a quick question what is Grundy like?

Grundy is the best ruck prospect since Nick Natanui, he is very well rounded and has no weaknesses in his game IMO. He is very athletic, comes from a Basketball background, has very good tap work, good clearance mid, tackles hard, also finds a fair bit of the ball on the outside and can influence games as well as anyone in this years draft. Goes forward and kicks goals, also a good strong mark. He is well built and ready to go. His skills are good for a ruckman, like I said there are no weaknesses with his game. He is an elite prospect and a chance to go no 1 this year IMO.

From previous drafts I would not risk a top 5 pick on a ruckman unless they have a bit of freakishness about them ala Nic Nat, but I think players like Kosi, Fraser, Laycock and Kruezer will in the future deter teams taking ruckmen with their top 5 or top 10 picks.
I am waiting to see how Longer, Gorringe go being 1st round ruckmen, even Lycett to a extent as he was touted to go much earlier then he did. I just don't think ruckmen are a wise decision early in drafts.

I would love Knightmares opinion on this.

Daniher / Whitfield / O'Meara order depends on need I would say.
gap rest

these 3 are a class above everyone else.
I would rate Crouch & Viney around the 4 - 8 mark.

1. O'Meara
2. Danniher
3. Whitfield
4. Grundy
5. Crouch/Toumpas

Daniher maybe #1 as his KPF.

I haven't seen enough of Crouch, but I'd have it Daniher/O'Meara/Crouch/Whitfield/Viney.

Got my doubts Whitfield will become the best player from his draft - or become another Gibbs.

I'm sure the Saints and Pies are absolutely devastated that they picked up 200 game ruckmen/fowards and the Blues look like they have another 200 gamer on their hands. I'm not saying that they are all amazing players, but think of how many players drafted each year that don't get anywhere near these guys' level.

but taking kruzer who has only been serviceable at most compared to a superstar like cotch;)

Whitfield will be like Gaff run players off there feet.

For me O'Meara then Daniher, O'Meara is the quickest elite junior mid to be drafted in a long time.
2.80 for 20 metres is elite pace, add that with his hardness at the footy and we have a remarkable player.

Daniher is a big foward that moves well and has great hands, these players win finals matches.

With EFC's season falling apart we could end up finishing 11/12th - Is there any chance that a team beneath us won't bid for J.Daniher.

Going by what people are saying on here, absolutely not a chance in hell.

Wow next year will be an exciting year for debutants!

I still think Sam Mayes will be one of the best from this draft

Fraser was pick 1, Kosi pick 2, if you were to redo there draft years they wouldn't be top 20, very risky using an early pick on a ruckman.

You want a good tall you have to go first round. Name all the gun key forwards and look where they were drafted, You all most need to produce your own from father and son picks.

Having seen a bit of both I would say O'Meara is faster than Cotch, but Cotch's disposal at this stage is better than Jaeger's.
But it wasn't when Cotch was drafted/first year in the system so there is definitely a chance O'Meara could catch him up. O'Meara reminds me of a mix between a player like Cotchin and a player like Shuey.

A bit of Cotch's aerial ability, deft touch and balance, more than a bit of Shuey's explosiveness and ability to work quickly into space and go for long raking runs.

O'Meara is the kind of player that if he starts to deliver on potential, I would watch GC just to see him play.

O'Meara

Daylight

Whitfield
Crouch
Viney
Grundy
Daniher
I may be biased but having watched the majority of the resevres games this year I am super excited about Jaeger. Speed to burn, hard at the ball and the man, he was clearly a step ahead of everyone else on the field.
