At 21 Tippett was in his first season on our list, having played less than 20 Australian Rules games in his entire life. McKernan might have a basketball background as well, but he was brought up with a Sherrin in his hands. Comparing the two at this particular age is just pointless given the difference in their respective backgrounds.

Ok then Kurt's first 23 games were out of this world then?

Give Mckernan a month in Tippett's old position.
Deep in the forward line whilst giving Jacobs a rest as the 2nd ruck...
He has the potential to be better than Tippett.
He needs a bit of luck with injuries/suspensions...
Some of the shit I have seen him do at South as a teenager was 2nd only to Walker at that age.
I think all Adelaide supporters need to get behind him...
Yes FreddY B. I am right behind with his bags in my hand at the airport.
Whilst I will have egg on my face if he does prove me wrong i think had ample opportunity and lacking in many areas but always like your faith FB

I call it as I see it. What I see is a player who has the talent but not the burning desire. Without that desire we might as well get rid of him now, because we're just wasting our time. McKernan will never be an AFL footballer unless he can find a bit of mongrel, heart and desire, which has to come from deep within himself. I don't think it's there.

He was 21 a month ago mate; time is on his side.

Everybody thought Hawkins was a fat ****** until recently - we can afford to give SMcK a couple of more years to find his place in the side; if he does, it'll be well worth the wait.

Looks like the he's lovin' the Surfers' lifestyle :D

No, I didn't raise it, i used the same indicator to point out how misleading it is to use that indicator.

I raised them, and prefaced it with using it only to suit my argument. I never suggested it was a reasonable comparison.

also, where is AFGM? gone silent, still waiting for this announcement (not bagging you AFGM just following your predictions)

Firstly, my annual leave finished on Monday and secondly I have been abused for responding to questions like the one above. (I think someone suggested I was doing a Kurt)

Essentially things are perfectly on track. Ignore all the smoke and mirrors and in the near future (possibly today) Kurt will give his "It's not you, it's me; It's not about the money, I've always been a Gold Coast boy" speech.

The current posturing relates to the different interpretations of Gold Coast and Adelaide regarding what the compensation for Kurt will be. Gold Coast have played their final card "We are willing to pay a fair price for Kurt but if all else fails he can go into the pre-season draft". I am confident that it will also unfold exactly as suggested more than two months ago.

Sit back and enjoy the show, we may know the ending but the plot is still fascinating. Why the hell would Kurt send the surf board text let alone the group text to his mates? I suspect Kurt wants to put this to bed so the final act will be coming soon.

Slightly ahead of schedule that the media open up the PSD threat, but alas this new off-season schedule may be throwing them a little.

1- GWS CAN, despite the meias best attempts to say otherwise, pick up Tippett, of course with Adelaides approval (which would be granted very quickly).
2 - GWS WILL pick up Tippett if allowed. They have the ability to re-structure some veteran (Davis style Veteran) salaries, and open up room. They are still on the bottom end of the TPP and have a higher ceiling (floor the same as the other clubs). They create (if they need to) the room to pick him up at the agreed GC contract price (approx 800K), pick him up. Worst case, he cries and the GWS trade him next year for a late first. OR, he plays, plays well and GWS get a high first plus next year. OR he plays, likes it and stays, oh noez we picked up good player.
3 - GC will not be pricks. They will play hard ball, but they are not going to step over a line that will look pretty close in a few years. Despite the GC being a great place to live, there's not too much home grown talent on their list and homesickness sure is a bitch on the other hand. If they go down the PSD road, they will be on the receiving end of it very quick. They'r eonly going to be on the bottom end of the ladder for another year or two and then the PSD threats will return their way.
4 - GC won't risk not obtaining this piece. Like Melbourne with Viney, they'll huff and they'll puff about maybe we don't want, we don't care....yes you do, and that's fine, it's how it is. Because when you go long to the square at the end of next year to a tired Dixon and an outbodies Lynch you'll rue it.

Actual compo will become very interesting and will probably depend on many other trades throughout the extended period. We saw last year that Noble doesn't tend to do one-off deals that aren't tagged along with many others. Should the GC believe #2 is too high, they will explore that trading down options, look at players on other lists that we want to work a multi team and look at selling one of their pieces that may be squeezed out by Tippett, either to us or another.

My personal thought is #2 is around the mark. The price tags being thrown around about Kurt prove that, despite all the hooting and hollaring on BF regarding draft picks, this is the cold truth. This years draft isn't as OMG as Matty suggested earlier in the year, the talent really didn't come on as thought. Danniher and Viney are top 5 picks taken off, Crouch and Jager would probably populate 2 of the remaining 3 spots, leaving Whitfield. So the next rung you have Toump, Grundy, Menzel, Wines. There's nothing like Tippett this draft, Grundy is the closes and he's a ruck forward, not forward/ruck. Proven match winners who are massively competitive, can play ruck, contested marking etc etc etc....talks of picks 16 etc aren't really on the money.

The second thing that will come into this, and maybe intentially by GC is if they bid #2 on Viney, and get him, that's off the trade table and they get a player who they'd LOVE. Then again, there's no way Melbourne let him go and he'd instantly be the hardest player on their list.

Will be a very interesting couple of weeks, we're going to be very busy, we have a definate trade to be made, we're not going to make a heap of picks this year so we'll be looking to work the way up the board and we now have an increase war chest....preparing for board meltdown.

The Victoria and NSW coments are massive BS, it's QLD. MAnager beat up to inflate price. Helps us anyway.

Smack and Jenkins are now 2 of the most important players on our list. Both will play together next year at certain times.
I admire your lack of faith CC.. But I will take no joy in rubbing your face in it if he is not in a Crows jumper. That is not my style.

The GCS have their very own AFGM over on their board under the "insideword01" moniker, so far he's posted pictures of the house Kurt will "allegedly" be living in etc, even posted a photo of Kurt "allegedly" sitting at a table at said house, He also states Kurt will announce this afternoon he's going to the Suns.
Seems we have 2 people to coin a AFGM earlier statement "singing from the same song sheet or was that hymn book"???

Unfortunately for that crazy stalker person, the afternoon is quickly coming to an end. ;)

Are you 100% confident that if GWS pick up Tippett thru the PSD that the Crows will receive the AFL compo (i.e. the compo is not reserved for when there is an agreed trade).

By nominating for the ND (or PSD) the player is implicitly accepting that they could end up anywhere and they are agreeing to sign a 2-year contract with whichever team chooses to draft them. He doesn't have to agree specifically to ending up at GWS if he's already done so implicitly in signing the draft nomination form.

Thanks Vader - I should have been more explicit...can GWS select Tippett in the PSD AND we get compo from the AFL. I did realise that Tippett's nom for the draft (with specified terms) constitutes acceptance of whoever picks him up.

I'm concerned that we only get the AFL uncontracted player compo if the deal is a trade (which requires agreement of two clubs AND one player...which won't be forthcoming). Otherwise he could go to GWS in the PSD but we'd be left with nothing.

Hopefully the threat of going to the GWS is credible enough (even without our compensation) to ensure that Tippett and GCS do the right thing by us.

It's an agreement on losing a player to said team and doesn't stipulate 'trade', 'PSD' or 'un-contracted' to my knowledge good sir.

This brings up my main problem with AFGM's theories.

'IF' Kurt signed an contract with GC, he is in violation of AFL rules. AS, 'IF' Adelaide and GC can't work out a trade, he goes into the PSD where another team can pick him. GC can't just whip out this contract.

IT would only be IF Adelaide AND GC signed an agreement with Kurt, AND GC signed a contract with Kurt would there be this set in stone outcome. Otherwise it's a restraint of a third parties ability to become involved as is their right by AFL laws.

IF Adelaide have a handshake agreement with Kurt that still means **** all.

Well IF there is a handshake agreement, I see no real reason to honor Kurt following the way he's departed.

He didn't make his mind up a couple of days ago, this has been a while coming and to bolt off and hide before you release the info and then txt your 'mates' the news.....yeah let's root ourselfs over in helping him. Had he made our front office aware of his intentions early, it allows greater preparation. The way he broke the news to the boys was just soft.

Pass, see easy done :D . you guys wont let him go for nothing, no one believes that for a minute, not when a player and pick (8-13) is on the table. I agree there will be huff and puff from both sides but to say we wont pass him up is laughable. Perrsonally I hope he goes to the Lions and they pay overs for him, we will keep our young guns and pick 2 and pick 8-13.

well looks like we will get screwed.

well if he goes in the psd, so be it, one things for sure we will be playing footy at AO in 2014 to record crowds, while that plastic franchise will be playing to dismal crowds and will probably be relocated in 10 years time.

what goes round comes round.

I'll let everyone know, glad this saved some time...

Do you honestly rate Day, Gorringe, Tape higher than Tippett?

Secondly, who would you select with #2, and #13 (odd)? Curious.

You'll give us Pick 2 and like it young man!

Sorry for being so harsh this whole Tippet saga is getting to me....tell you what chuck in Day as well and we will call it evens.

Now now...no need to thank me. The least i could do. :thumbsu:

Pick 2 is fair compensation for a 25 year old superstar. Tippett is not worth pick 2

I'd probably prefer pick #2, but I could definitely live with Gorringe and the Caddy pick.
Hang-on If Gorringe was coming home anyway why shouldn't that be a separate deal

Anyway assume it is ....and i agree with Stiffy that we should chase Day as first priority .....I'd be careful of the caddy deal in that it has to be a 10-12 pick

What about Jolly? .....does he get thrown in as the steak knives ;)
