It wasn't Collingwood, it was Fremantle, Ross Lyon pre-game said their game plan revolved around trying to stop Atley, who he thought was the reason behind North's winning momentum at the time, they played a couple of defensive forwards on him, and tried to get him one out a few times. You could list a 100 or more young players that left free in the back half would play well. Hardly a huge acheivment.

Rarely played free - took most of the dangerous small to medium forwards. That is why he was so good - lock down as well as attack.

Gee if you don't rate this kid after his 2nd year then you don't have a very good understanding of young talent. And if that is the case you would be still be happy with Melbourne taking Cook at 12.

I was under the impression this thread, or at least a few posters in it, were stating Atley was not a steal at 17. That was why i thought the thread was bumped.

Highly regarded at North, proved next-to-nothing in the AFL as yet.

Would expect better from yourself, particularly as he is from your club, but anyway... This thread is done.

Not happy about that at all just as you wouldnt be happy with North taking Hansen as early as they did. But simply many young players are playing better football that Atley without their club posters pumping them up Geary from StKilda for one.
