Williams demolishing opponents like this is no different than Federer, Nadal or Djokovic in the early rounds of slams. I don't see why everyone complains so much.

I think its because its two sets instead of three coupled with the 6-1 6-0 that Serena and Maria are producing.

Even a demolishing mens performance still involves a 6-3 set usually.

Well i couldnt have been more wrong.

Fed Vs Raonic is a tough match up to pick which way it will go. Last year Milos troubled him. But Roger has been great this week. And i havent been impressed with Milos at all this year. Anyway my predection Roger in 4. Milos not quite ready to take that big step.

Because this is the fourth round and Kirilenko is the 14th seed?

It's about depth. Stan is the 15th seed and look at the fight he put up against the tournament favourite.
You have to take into account the fact that Williams is basically like playing against a man. The gulf between Williams and even Sharapova physically is too much for any 'regular' female player to handle. They can be the best returner and scrambler in the world but it means nothing when you don't have the power. The only way to beat the best female players is to hope they're off their game mentally or be blessed with superior genetics like Williams or Sharapova.

Drop Williams into an era with players like Hingis and Graf and the results would be the same. They wouldn't stand a chance, even with today's physical preparation and conditioning.

lol, i don't think speed troubles federer, it's all about the angle. Remember he used to love returning to Roddick.

Milos can get angles though. He has great variation - pulls off the odd 170km/h wide first serve and the odd 210km/h second serve. Having said that if Federer returns Milos' serve he's the favourite for the point. Until Milos develops his movement he won't be moving from where he is now.

Williams should play some of the men, just as a gimmick. Would like to see if she could take a set off Tomic for example.

Awhile ago, but:

During the 1998 Australian Open, sisters Serena and Venus Williams boasted that they could beat any man ranked outside the world's top 200. The challenge was accepted by Karsten Braasch, a German player ranked No 203 (his highest ranking was No 38). before the matches, Braasch played a round of golf in the morning, drank a couple of beers, smoked a few cigarettes, and then played the Williams sisters for a set each, one after the other. He defeated Serena, 6-1, and Venus, 6-2. Serena said afterwards "I didn't know it would be that hard. I hit shots that would have been winners on the women's tour and he got to them easily."

The Williams sisters in 1998 are nothing compared to the Williams sisters 5 years later. In saying that, the result would be the same.

There was an article before the tournament that Sharapova trained by playing against the best Aussie Mens Juniors(Saville name was mentioned) in match simulations and that it was a good contest. Who knows how seriously the "games" was played, etc, etc, but i reckon that 500-700 ranked players would be around the mark for a contest.

I think Federer generally knows how to handle servebots, especially in best-of-5 grand slam level. Best of luck to Milos, but as previously said, Federer is in ominous form this week.

It is a funny transition seeing sports stars younger than you. The big moment for me was when Del Potro won USO 09, he is exactly 3 months older than me. Juan, Marin Cilic & Dolgopolov are in my age group. On the womens tour its even worse, the likes of Azarenka, Radwanska, Wozniacki and Kvitova are all younger than me. Some were born in the 90s.

To be fair, the Williams sisters were very young then. Infact, it was the first I ever heard about them. I've never heard of Braasch, and was obsessed with tennis around that time, so im guessing he was old and that peak ranking was a few years before.
