No need to rush an elite talent in Menzel into footy if he hasn't had a pre-season. Roket could be a bolter and secure one of our nominated rookie spots.

The great unwashed will question the recruitment of Menzel if he doesn't play a lot of senior footy.

A hell of a lot of people still haven't come to the realization that kids aren't recruited solely for the purpose of contributing in their first season.

There will likely be plenty of those threads around, including an appearance on the Carlton board.

Can't wait.

That is a good call in theory, but I remain unconvinced that it will be a good call in practice.

A defensive unit of Jamison, Henderson, Watson and Laidler just seems too big for me. Reckon if we line up that way we may find a few small forwards running rings around us.

Not against it being tested in the NAB Cup though. We know Jamo, Henderson and Laidler are quality and Watson showed last year he's on the way to becoming a good AFL footballer so he can't be languishing in the reserves all year waiting for an injury to provide him with an opportunity at senior level. Will be very interesting to see how we juggle it all - at this stage I'm not adverse to rotating them as the season progresses to keep them fresh - if our form and situation warrants it.

GC. Probably more team defence, Watson FB. Henderson on the tall running types. Jamison and Laidler peeling off to help out both.Hopefully this type of role for Jamison will give him a better injury run.

Yarran to play higher up the ground and to have the highest effective inside 50 count in the comp at years end.GC/BC?

Good call and bad call. I think Yaz will play further up the ground but I don't believe he'll lead the club in effective inside 50 count let alone the league. I think club honor goes to Judd, Simpson or Murphy. Still expecting big things from Yarran.

GC/BC, Nicholas Graham wins best first year player (if it hasn't been done already - just saw on the H/Sun site that he's been the hot tip for Rising Star award).

GC. At this stage I'd say there is only 16 or so certainties for round 1.

The remainder of those spots may well go to the most impressive performers through the preseason and in that case Nick would well and truly have to be in contention.
