Eligible for the 2013 draft? I seem to recall Knightmare saying he could go in the first 2 rounds, possibly even the first.

Nice article on him here.
Willie jnr was the youngest player to win the Chaney medal for best on ground in the NTFL grand final on Saturday.

Willie jnr, meanwhile, kicked five goals for St Marys, which beat the Tiwi Bombers by 31 points at Darwin's Tio Stadium, and will be on the radar for AFL recruiters this season.

Like his cousin Cyril, a lively small forward. Surely any physique problems he might have will go down with a couple of pre-seasons?

Superstar. Most skilled player around goals I think I have ever seen.

Willie has some real talent. Is draft age this year so certainly one to look out for.

His draft range is very open and very hard to pin point this far out. He has talent like few others in this draft but in saying that he is a heavy build small forward who at this stage probably can't push up the ground or offer much defensively.

A real wait and see type prospect but with his crumbing ability, playmaking ability and offensive talents it's difficult to see him not getting selected somewhere.

As I mentioned in another thread, recruiters don't like 'non standard' body shapes. That will certainly mean he drops a bit. However, if he lights up the Championships like he did the NTFL GF, he'll get an early guernsey.
I happen to agree with you, Knightmare, he would be very hard to pin down. Questions over his ability to play anything but small forward will probably make the pros tear their hair out.

Very talented but his body shape will scare most off. If he has some discipline with his diet and gets some good mentoring he could make it. Talent alone won't get you there..... but Willy does have plenty of talent.

If he's a stay at home small forward, no doubt the Dees will be keen. Haven't had one since Wonaeamirri.

Speaking of Wonaeamirri (spelling?), he's been on a pretty good wicket up in the territory. Hard to tackles because nobody can get their arms all the way around the middle these days. He's become a very much stay at home forward - I don't think he left the forward 50 all season.
A couple of others have also been in some pretty fair pastures up there as well. Must be some good tucker. That being the case, I'm not surprised Willie Rioli, Anthony Tipungwuti and the rest have shape problems. Kristian Height, for example, looked like a pigmy hippo.

Height looked like a pygmy? Now my favourite footballing surname since little Sam Heavyside :D
Sam really belied his name last year, even though he went where angels fear to tread. I'd like to see how his body has matured over the summer. However, I agree with you: he does have a great name.
A couple of the WAFL boys also have some great names, but heavyside will always be hard to beat!

Yeah the WAFL will be good for Willie. I spoke to him the other day and he said that they've got him doing a few run throughs and stuff so hopefully he can improve his fitness and show his talent at this level.

named in the best for the reserves. according to the wafl website kicked 2 or 3 goals from about 10 touches

Kicked 2 more goals today to have 26 from 7 colts games. Really has all the talent in the world. Quicker than he looks and for his height is good overhead. Knows where the goals are and is as talented as the other dozen or so Rioli's that have played at Souths over the last 30 yrs.

Really hope he gets a gig at an AFL club, he has too much talent to be wasting it playing WAFL, VFL SANFL etc...

No doubt. Clubs will be put off by the gut and that's sad. Draft him and give him a few pre seasons to work it off?

where do you place him?

where do you place him?

Probably undrafted. Outside rookie chance for a club ok with taking him on as a project.

He's got offensive talent but he's lazy and I don't see him putting in the body of work to be AFL relevant.

The short story is that if he wasn't a Rioli there wouldn't be any public interest.

Strongly disagree with this. The only thing stopping him being as damaging as Cyril is his fitness issues.
