Autopsy Rd 11 Vent thread Carlton vs ... some team

I am so sick of people defending Kane Lucas.

Lucas has been very average all year long, we are 11 round's into the season, there are no more excuses. He has the most perfect, front-running role ever so is made to look ok on occasions with easy goals.

His game tonight was absolutely terrible and it wasn't just that 'one shot' (which was also terrible). His indecision is horrible, he can't stick a tackle, he gets the ball 35m out and doesn't make the distance (a play that hasn't had much spotlight because Eddie managed to create a goal). Essendon's first goal of the game he decides to leave Hocking to try to affect the ball carrier, another wrong decision. He is just not up to AFL standard and there is no reason to continue to play him.

We would benefit a lot more from having Bell in the team or even Menzel, anyone who can man up an opponent and not make glaringly terrible mistakes.

It's not completely Lucas's fault, Malthouse has to stop naming him in the 22.

I am sure that there are a lot of people out there with eggs on their faces over Tom Hawkins and Dale Thomas... I am sure that until a couple of years ago both of those players were considered duds and spuds. I remember all the Daisy Thomas is a girl talk prior to 2010 and he had been in the system for 4 years at that point... at which point would you have discarded Thomas if he had been playing for Carlton?

But hey... we have legends like you who knows everything about what makes a top flight AFL footballer after just 27 games into his career... geez we would be turning new players over every year if that was the case.

Also... I am quite certain that Malthouse and the MC name him in the side for a reason... because they see talent there.

As for your call on him leaving Hocking... what would have happened if he had affected a smother on the ball over the top and forced a turnover which went up the other end and we had scored? Would you and all the other Lucas bashers be whinging quite so hard about it? He took a punt and made a decision to try and stop a fast break... right or wrong... cant fault him for that really.

We beat Lions by 13 points two weeks ago. Lucas kicked 3 goals and many of us took the view he played well. Some us have different views about Lucas. Some of us think that he shows enough signs to keep progressing his development.

That's why I enjoy posting on this site - the diversity of opinion even on our own board is what makes contributing worthwhile.

I wish the MC hadn't changed the team after it had been winning. I like the fact that Garlett had been playing really well without Yarran and Betts for the past few weeks. Maybe Garlett gets caught up with having Betts and Yarran around him.

Would I be a fool to hope for a premiership under MM in 2015/16?

I want to see it happen but I'm struggling to see how it could.

I'm gonna reserve any judgement on the Malteaser until he has a full season at the helm and until I see what he does at the end of the year. I'd expect to be a bit more active during the trade period.

Good luck finding me ripping into a player that came good though, I very rarely rip into anyone.

Lucas may well be a good player in the future, but he is costing us week after week (in my opinon) and needs to be dropped to the VFL and told to work on his issues (tackling, decision making, disposal, it's a long list I'm afraid).

As for your final paragraph, your scenario didn't happen, the scenario that happened was an easy Essendon goal and I can fault him if it was the wrong decision :)

Very unlucky Blues. Thought you had us.

Very easy to pick a scapegoat in games like these but Judd is a good place to start. Didn't hit a target all night.

Which games has he cost us? Shit, I could identify a number of players who at various times have contributed to our losses this season, including some of our best/most experienced/most talented players. It is absolute rot to suggest Lucas is costing us week after week. Absolute rot.

He hit more than Jobe did. 60% vs 54.5%

Perhaps should have specified, didn't say he's costing us games every week (although he did this week and strong contribution to Saints game, Cats game) but he's costing us in general.

I've stated it before, his role is amazing, outside, get into space, do what you like Kane Lucas, don't worry about any defensive pressure. I am certain almost any player with half a tank would thrive in his role. It's the role that makes him look ok at times.

I'm encouraged by how things have played out under MM so far. My concern is based on a feeling that we need to capitalize on the talent we already have on our list before retirements hurt us (eg. Scotland, Judd, etc) As you suggest a more active trade period may certainly help.

One positive from tonight is that Waite fired but not at the same time as Garlett, Betts and Yarran. When Waite, Casboult and our smalls fire in unison our forward line will be very damaging.

Probably can't blame supporters who are only an hour or two done with watching our season float down shit creek.

Is our season floating down shit creek?

Ohh my god... ****... it's only round 11 and our season is ****ed so I might as well not watch any more because we are currently sitting 6 and 5 and even if we lose 1-2 of the next 3 games and with the run we have home... we have absolutely no chance of making the finals...

shit... if we come home 6-5 for the second half... 12 wins... could be enough to get us into the finals in 8th... which isnt to bad considering where we are coming from with a new coach who is evaluating our entire list during this season to see what sort of cattle he has to work with to mount a premiership challenge over the next 1-2 years.

But no... our season is ****ed... lets call it a day and start delisting our players now because we are so ****ing hopeless that even GC17 is sure to beat us in the second half of the season.

How the **** can you say Lucas cost us the game. We were 31 points up and lost by 5.

It takes more than one player/mistake to cause a 6 goal turn-around.

We had Judd missing (again) in front of goal, Garlett's kicking at goal uncharacteristically off target and in one case not even making the distance, and Waite marking just outside the 50m in the last quarter making a poor decision to kick across the ground and turning the ball over.

Waite played the game of his life and kicked 7 goals - but with only 3 others players kicking single goals our biggest problems tonight were our poor/haphazard disposal into the forward line and finding a forward line that can function more effectively.

Still not seeing where he is costing us in general even?

As MrsEddieBetts noted... there were a lot of other players who missed... more experienced players. But hey... pick on the kid because it makes you appear to be all knowledgeable and shit.

Lucas had a bad 10 minutes... but he still had quite a serviceable game for us. Garlett did virtually nothing all game and he doesnt get a mention in your rant about costing us the game? Judd missed a sitter... Kreuzer missed a sitter but they dont get a mention?

As MSR said... Judd only had 60% DE and missed a load of targets. He wasnt 100% for the game and probably shouldnt have played. Betts wasnt at 100% and shouldnt have played... we would have gotten better service out of Menzel I think and possibly bringing in Watson to play on Daniher with Henderson occasionally swinging forward.

Playing Yarran as a sub to come on as an impact player... If I was going to do that, I would have subbed him in at half time for Betts.

And what about the lack of a goal review for Jeppys goal that wasnt given?

But everyone is picking on Lucas for having a bad 10 minutes and blaming him. I just say it was a lack of experience. But hey... drop the kid... dont let him play in the bigs until he has more experience playing in the VFL... let his skills atrophy at a lower level until it gets to a point where, like what happened with Bower, the club views him as dead wood and delists him without really giving him a chance to shine.

Also... I never see you posting in here so I am going to assume that you are someone else's main board or bay account because I would have noticed someone who has over 4k posts in here before. So who are you really?

I am so pissed off still. Have to be up for work in 6 hours but won't be able to sleep yet.

I thought Brock and his decision making was worse than Lucas's tonight.

Essendon got it out of our forward zone far too easily, reminded me of the Geelong game. Where has the forward pressure gone? I've been concerned all year with the forward structure. There doesn't seem to be a backup plan for when it is not going well.

Waite, fantastic and didn't look like missing a mark. Casboult was great too, both forward and in his backup ruck work.

I thought White was pretty good, esp after the horrid match he had a couple of weeks ago.
Simpson playing into form, good to see.

Loving Cachia.

Defence solid, not the main problem.

Still I am going to try and stay positive but GFTO now Barker. Sticks to be forward coach ;)only half joking.

Not going to get into the Lucas debate, but is that the most overused statement in footy?

Exactly what level of senior AFL experience is required to learn how to put the ball through the middle set of posts when they're right in front of you?

You would be surprised....

I think that we are going to see Casboult moving more into the Leigh Brown model of forward/ruck which means that we could see Rowe coming back into the side again soon to be a more fixed forward rather than another forward/ruck.

However, if we see Levi making that move into the forward/ruck type player... it beggars the question of whats going to happen to Hampson and Warnock... we cant maintain 2 spare #1 rucks which means that at least 1 will have to go come the end of the year. And while I hate to say it, it is looking like it might be Warnock which will be put on the table for either picks or as part of a trade for a top flight player.
