Bullshit Talks...

Plus his manager acknowledged today that GWS are yet to table their offer.
So he has nothing to compare the HFC offer too.

What else could he say?

I know there quite a lot of you out there who will howl me down for this but it's just the way I feel.

The team and club are bigger than the individual, yes I'm aware of that, but this is not an ordinary situation. Lance Franklin is the golden goose, the one in a generation player. Buddy brings members, merchandise, exposure, excitement.... It's difficult to quantify but his presence is massive. As much as I love Luke, Sam, Rough et al these guys don't bring the exposure that Lance does. Sam himself recently said that Buddy deserved to be the best paid Hawk. I've stated earlier in this behemoth thread that guys like Pav, Judd and Riewoldt have been getting north of a million for years. It's now 2014, we should pay Lance 1.4 MILLION x 5 years and allow him all the marketing opportunities possible. By the time a 5 year deal is finished there'll be plenty of players in the comp getting a million + a year so I don't think it'll be too far out of place. 7 million over 5, unconditional and he will stay. You throw in ambassador money, car sponsor and as many third party deals as we can and he will be up around 1.8m a year. Ellis and Osborne are at the end of the road, each man would be on 250-300k, the money is there. I'd play a man short on the list to keep Buddy if that was an option.

Sometimes in life you have to pay overs and we have to do it on this occasion. Personally I think he's worth it.

If he wants to stay, then sign - simple. What's he hanging out for? The offer that Hawthorn has presented is final - so I'm not sure what else is holding him back.

Saying that he wants to wait until the end of the year so he focus on his footy is rubbish.
In the past he's signed extensions well in advance, suggesting he didn't contemplate leaving. For whatever reason(s), this time he's decided to consider his options and make a decision to stay or leave. I can understand why he would want to wait until the end of year to do this- to focus on this year and not be distracted by the confronting idea of pulling on a different jumper. But as he admitted today, it has taken some toll on him. Just because he wants to consider his options doesn't mean ( in my opinion) that he wants to leave (or that he is a mercenary). I believe him when he says that his starting position is that he wants to stay, but it doesn't make sense for him to suddenly sign now, given that he elected at the beginning of the year to take this approach. I think/hope he'll stay.

I think he will stay now. Surely he wouldn't say that and then leave. He must just want more money out of us

He's backed himself in a corner now.

He's said he wants to be a Hawk, we want him to stay a Hawk. If he goes there can only be one reason.

There is only one reason ($5,000,000 reasons to be more accurate). Only ever has been. Not one of us would pass up $5m except in the rarest of circumstances. We just need to hope that moving to the cesspool that is the GWS counts as an exceptional circumstance. As stated elsewhere, the alternative is we spend the freed up cap space.

You seem to think that if he stays at Hawthorn he isn't getting any money.

He said "I want to stay a Hawk" why didn't he say "I am staying at the Hawks".He hasn't received a deal in writing yet from GWS, when he finds out what he can earn he will make up his mind. He does NOT sound confident to me!He has said a few times he loved the Hawks, but that doesn't mean he will stay. o_O

He wants to stay a Hawk, BUT will weigh up all offers at the end of the seeason and then make a decision. Of course he wants to stay at the club, who wouldnt, but in the end setting himself up for life may be more important to him than becoming a one club player. Thats all. Todays comments have not changed any of this

He wants to stay a Hawk.... unless he can get millions more elsewhere ;)

I am wondering if he is getting pressure from somewhere else/someone else to take the mega bucks from GWS even though his heart wants him to stay at Hawthorn. As another poster said he's making a lot of contradictory statements, it sounds like he wants to stay a Hawk and yet he says he's yet to make a decision. Also, if he doesn't want the pressure of signing now does he realise that by putting it off he will have only a matter of days to make up his mind at the end of the season? Surely that would be more stressful than taking his time over the contract now. I've just about given up trying to work out what is going on with Buddy o_O

He already has enough money to set himself up. He has 20% share in Nena&Pasedena, which just went global with their clothes now been sold in Europe.

These things you speak of... Memberships, marketing, exposure.. You must remember this

Success with Buddy - excellent
Success without Buddy - very very good
No success with buddy - poor
No success without buddy - very poor

So while offering 1.4 mill to one player is all good in your eyes, it sets our team back from being successful. Now I am going to pre-empt you saying 'but he is a once in a generation player, he wins us games'. Let me tell you this. WHO GETS THE BALL TO HIM IN THE FORWARD LINE? Mitchell? Lewis? Nah they'll be elsewhere.

For some reason people think, well if a basketball team can offer a high percentage of their salary cap to one player to be successful, why can't we. Well, because their are only 5 players on the court in a team, and the court is a lot smaller than a field. Buddy can't take it from one end of the court (field) to the other himself. We need quality everywhere.

If we offer him 1.4 m we're looking at 'no success with buddy' and that is alot worse than 'success without buddy'.

Then why hasnt he signed?
it is his choice to not sign till the end , any contract given in any job early the employee has a right to say no to while they are still contracted Buddy is still contracted he does not have to sign till that contract is finished regardless of if offered an early extension or not, any employee has that right ! i am sick of people going nuts that he has not signed ! i wish they realised HE DOES NOT HAVE TO TILL THE CURRENT CONTRACT IS FINISHED !

Buddy isn't going anywhere ...how many buddy balls or Buddy boots will he sell at GWS? Not bloody many

The GWS are a disaster...it would hurt his Brand to go to western Sydney IMO
