lol at Dodoro saying he is off limits. EVERY player has a price!

If Melbourne came knocking with pick 2, you would do it every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Probably just about the only exception I can see happening. There's no way otherwise I would give him up this year.

that is basically exactly what he said in his interview on the essendon website

Following the rationale of those who believe we are in the premiership window - I would give Myers and 22 and whatever else to get a Montagna or Shaw. In effect we have upgraded a position in our best 22.

But of course the bi-polar nature of this board won't understand the logic.

Shaw for 22 and Myers. LMFAO!

I can live with Myers going, but not for Shaw.

But Mr Oracle, help me understand. How is trading 2 best 22 players for 1 best 22 player going to improve our team? Help me understand your wisdom and logic.

Who is trading out 2 best 22 players - I am trading one for an upgrade - So you still have the same best 22, but one piece is better.

So trading Crameri & Myers for Shaw, not for me.
some Collingwood supporters said they would be happy for a Crameri for Shaw trade.

Who is trading out Crameri. He is leaving. That has no relationship to what i suggested. That is trade out one player and get in a better player and give up a draft pick. They are separate issues.

Yes I understand what you are saying, I would be very interested in the extra cap space taken up by Shaw though, Shaws price might be overs and that is the reason we will have pick #22 to begin with.
So if Shaw is on $150,000 a season more than Myers, I would rather have paid Crameri that extra $50,000 a year and keep him and Myers on our list.
I don't know just my opinion.

How do you plan on getting pick 22 then?

If we're to lose Crameri, we need to replace him with another best 22 player, not lose 2 for 1. That's how you build depth. If we could get 22 + Higgins, then you'd have to think about trading 22 + another player for a very good player, but you don't build depth by trading integral parts of the best 22 for just one player.

But we could have 12 really good players, who are 28-30, and the rest of the team made up from draft picks in the 80s - you know pick shitruck or whoever. Players in their 20s are overrated anyway.

Should be a good chance for a flag in few years when the pick 80s get some form.... oh wait...

There is literally hundreds of trade combinations that could convince you to break ties with Myers for 2014. Myers is, at best, the eighth or ninth best midfielder at Essendon; at that level there is no shortage of players who are either more productive, less costly, or have greater potential. All three of those aspects would provide an incentive to trade someone like Myers.

If the club genuinely believes that someone like Myers is off-limits then they are definitely not doing #whateverittakes.

Major point that is being missed here is that you don't factor in Myers 2013. You factor in what you expect Myers 2014 and beyond to look like.

If you think, like I do, that he'll be a dominant clearance player and a goal kicker/playmaker when on the outside it becomes difficult to look at other players and think that the supposedly favourable trades are so straight forward. Even if the target is someone as good as heath Shaw.

In these modern times of the forward press (which also creates acres of space 'out the back') and unprecedented congestion around the footy, having a big-bodied player who can stand up in a tackle and give off a handball or kick long and accurately off one step either to find a teammate or the goals could be huge in the next few years. Not all players need to have blinding pace. Those ones just need to be on their bikes to chase down the big bomb from D Myers ;)

You are correct in saying that we should be looking at future output. Although future output is likely to be a function of past output as most mature players do not change dramatically after three or four pre-seasons.

In addition, our expectations for the future must be grounded in reality. For example, Myers is currently our eighth or ninth best performed midfielder in 2013 but your expectations are for him to become a dominant clearance player who kicks goals and sets up others. Those are particularly strong expectations and a lot must change for that to eventuate. I think as supporters we often look at the best case scenario rather than considering the most likely scenario. The most likely scenario is that Myers does not become a dominant player at all and never becomes as effective as Shaw.

Your rules cannot be that consistently applied. They really relate to the combination of experience and physical maturity/capacity built over years (which ideally occurs from ages 18 to 22). You're talking about a guy who has just strung his first proper year of footy together.

Glimpses were there. He just needs to build on it. I've got no reason to think that he wont.

If clubs are willing to offer a top 10 draft pick, doesn't that suggest that he's the kind of player we should be trying to keep at all costs?

Myers improvement in 2013 was huge, had 20 shots at goal and 10 assists and this really is just the beginning.
I love when he gets the ball within 65m of goal, S Dew like.
I think Myers could become one of our most dangerous players forward of centre.

Possibly. Though it could also reflect a difference in perceptions on a player or of needs, which happens all the time. If you take a pick and get it right then you potentially have a player providing similar output to Myers in 2014 at a lower salary and with more upside, eg. Heppell in his first year. Of course that is a very big if.

The problem is you also don't have any reason to think that he will. Hence you are looking at the best case scenario. I hope you are correct but I'm trying to take a more balanced approach. By comparison, I see him as a guy whose position in the best 22 could be threatened if some of our youngsters improve significantly.
