News Adelaide Oval Redevelopment - Thunderbirds Are Go

No one's gonna buy a ticket when England have four wickets in hand. But plenty will go in for free and buy overpriced beer.

I enjoyed Saturday. Not sure on the park benches in the members though, the Southern stand as you walk throught the members is amazing.

the park benches were a nice nod to the old members stand. they're only temporary (may be brought out every cricket season) - the interchange benches will be there in the footy season

You saw the green black and gold stripped Nelson shirt?

Glad you gave this shirt a wearing; glad the Adelaide Oval people made sure there was a tribute. That was a Great Man, alright.

I was in the MCG members in 2005 the morning after Kerry Packer died and we were all expected to observe a minute's silence. My friends and I couldn't quite bring ourselves to do it.

Pretty unlikely that I'll ever make it back to the AO but glad it seems to be working out alright. I watched the demolition video that MacMahon Engineering put on youtube and felt rather sick, turns out I was fonder of Adelaide oval then I had thought.

anyone else go to the cricket and look at the oval and get a sick feeling in your stomach? i just dont see the oval being big enough for open, hard running style football? it looks no where near as big as AAMI? or is it?

No.

AO is 2 metres longer and 9 metres narrower then AAMI.

A long narrow home ground hasn't hurt Geelong too much. ;)

At the AO game v Melbourne in 2011, I actually became concerned that the oval may not suit us,when it's used on a full time basis.

Although we beat Melbourne that day, I noticed how much Butcher, who was in great forming he lead-up to that game, struggled.

I hope Ken can suitably adjust our game style to the dimensions of the ground.

Fair enough makes sense to take advantage of the available space. Didn't realise that what's the area for.

No oval suited us in 2011.

Hinkley has us playing a very Geelong-like, quick movement through the corridor style of football that you'd think would suit Adelaide Oval rather well.

I spent Day 1 and Day 2 on level 3 of the Southern stand. Best seats in the house for Cricket. Great atmosphere too. Was always thinking about how this will deal with footy though. I have a slight concern about the design. There are stairs at either end of the stands, but centrally you have to leave via the bar. During footy, when the is a mad rush at the beginning and end of quarters I think a bottle neck will be created. At the end of sessions in the cricket it was huge. Also think there are not enough loos (like in the western stand). Maybe it had a lot to do with people not knowing the lay out yet, but I still think it is a little concerning. Other than that, it was fantastic.

Heres an interesting observation. Just looking at the seating availability for season tickets next year.
In my bay, before the Test match, there was about 140 seats available.
After the Test, 124 seats available :):thumbsu:
Some of you doubt fires had to wait for the excitement of a real attraction to buy your season tickets. Well i've got the best seats in my bay so you can all go and buy me a beer please :)
:)

I have a season pass for the southern stand and SMA football.
Would have had a season pass if i lived in Adelaide. I love the 20/20. Should be a good night out. My Mrs, Daughter and me will plonk ourselves on the hill, preferably right in front of the old score board. Then back to Glenelg where we are staying. I dont like our chances of getting back before midnight, so we might see the new year in on a bloody tram lol

Went to Adelaide Oval today for the morning session and sat in my seats in Bay 134 and it was an awesome view, but then again I don' think there will be a bad seat in the house! after the game was finished I went up the top tier of the southern stand and view is amazing you feel right on top of the oval, its so steep!

I like my creature comforts so south for me... zero chance of me being home by midnight.

Will suit our full court press team defence and corridor ball movement.

All those doubters of drop in pitches can go and suck a fat one. We gave England a chance on a batting friendly pitch, i was told it was tennis ball bounce. We won the toss, we did the job. So if this is a dead pitch, i cant wait to see her in a few years time. The team with more passion, and more heart won, on a so called dead pitch.

Please bring on the next Test match on this beautiful ground. Bring on the footy !!!!!! I love my South Aussie, I love my Australia.

Barmy Army...........suck my wang !!!!!

Even the great Gary Sobers who hit a ball a fair way back into the old creswell stand would struggle to hit it this far back. Would be interesting to see how far Chris Gayle could lob it.
Any mention of the incomparable Sir Garfield Sobers gets a like from me.
Saw him make 110 at AO in the 60's against a bowling attack that included Garth McKenzie
Alan Connerly and a South Aussie fast bowler who could play a bit of football as well.
Wore #18 for the Mighty Maggies not a bad KPF either. Fritz...err....fritz . He was involved in a dismissal by using his head to deflect the ball to a nearby fielder who completed the catch.
Ahhhh sweet memories

I reckon they have some serious pedestrian modelling issues - particularly with integration between western and southern stands. The western stand is a ridiculous design, toilets a massive issue. Reckon they will need to make some changes down the track once they deal with the bottleneck of AFL football.

I'm surprised by the 9m width difference as well. I thought it was all being pushed well back on the eastern side to make the dimensions better?

The 9m width difference leaves me gobsmacked. Was this made clear from the outset? Cos half
a billion $'s worth of our dough should add up a really smick oval without compromises.
Words fail to cover my reaction I'm really f#*ken pissed off:mad:
