We'll see but my suspicion is that forward line of JD, Carlisle, Winders, Chappy and resting mids will be more effective without TBC...will lose some ruck dominance when Ryder is resting, just a question of how the two impacts balance out.

I think it'll actually be fine but even if we do miss the big fella more than I'm anticipating the idea he's our most important player is way off IMO.

Agreed. I am not sold on the lumbering forwardline we were proposing to play and think that if Carlisle's marking is as strong forwards as it is back the forwardline will function better with something like the smaller set up you've got there - though I'd still like to see a mobile CHF. On paper, though, Plan A involves Bellchambers and basically fall apart without him.

Really don't think Ryder has shown the ability to ruck solo for a season. He burned out quickly in the second half of 2009, I think it was, and the game is now even faster and the running requirements even greater.

I expect the opposition will batter the life out of him.

But Ryder won't ruck solo for the season.

His last 2 lines at the end pissed me off

"Essendon had hoped that the post-peptides era might be free from obstacles, but already the setbacks
have started."

I have not read an article of his that is positive towards Essendon its always doom and gloom with that bloke.

edit- I hope his beloved Tigers fall in a shit heap and they sack Hardwick farkn ****.
Bad news about the injury. Hopefully they don't rush him back as I've seen a few of out players struggle with foot injuries.

That last line in the article is so completely unnecessary I can't believe it. They manage to mention peptides but not mention what the actual injury is that has put him out for months.

Sheesh.

Good luck guys.

Meh - you do seem to get used to the utter tripe the media serve up.

Been an eye opener, never realised how truly awful Australia's media was until this debacle.

You're right. Don't know what happened there, I misread about 4 posts in a row.

Nice smart ass comment, but I posted that before I saw the other posts..

If Steinberg or Hardy earn games as mobile 3rd tall(ish) then great but I'd be happy with Jobe and BJ rotating through that role while resting.

Agree with the spirit of the post. There was zero issue reason to mention peptides in that article. J Ralph is a flog and will always be a flog.

As to sacking Hardwicks privates, I personally dont think our club has much say. Its between Hardwick and his little soldier.

Notwithstanding the amount of ground a 3rd tall is required to cover meaning this'd hardly be a rest for them. Unless the mobile 3rd tall is to play out of the goal square that is....

Winders can play that hard running push up role. See Goddard and Watson's value as drawing the ball inside 50 and kicking goals.

Completely agree, but I've come to expect that sort of thing from Ralph. He's a rubbish journalist, and along with Barrett resides at the very bottom of the footy journalism barrel.

The fact he just had to get that little sly line in shows what he's all about.

Anyway, rant over.
I actually would piss on them if they were on fire.. but only if I could be absolutely sure it wouldn't help them in any way.

If we want to talk eras with Ralph we just have to ask him how the era since Kevin Barlett retired from playing is going for him...

He's just a flog like all the other flogs that hate us... which imo makes them irrelevant to me.... He can have as many digs at us that he wants, but when we finish above the tiges on the ladder this year we will shut him the **** up..

Hopefully Ryder doesn't injure himself or gets himself suspended otherwise we are farked. Back playing in 3 months from ankle reco? Doubt it, plus the lack of fitness. He'll be a big loss no matter how you look at it. Oh well looking forward to the season and seeing how we go. Still lots to look forward to.
