Check out the stats, also drill down a bit. His record in the 1st innings is far superior to the 2nd. That's always a good gauge of a player, there's been lots of 2nd innings specialists. A bit like 4 qtr goals when your sides getting smashed.
Also check out his record agains the Country's, his averages are strong against the good sides.
also, 4th highest run scorer in England test history, the 3 above Gooch, Stewart and Gower all had at least 25 more innings than him.

Agree with all this. Pietersen was a flog of the highest flogness but he was a hell of a player. Played well against Australia pretty regularly and is still one of the best batsmen England have available.

Serious question...is it now mandatory to play for Victoria to get a gig in the Australian side....only justification i can think of that we give a game to these absolute potatoes:

- Maxwell
- Hodge
- Wade
- Christian
- Muirhead
- McKay

Then you have players such as Finch, White, Rodgers, Pattison and Siddle who have all been gifted games when others more deserving have missed out.

It was a nice try, in fact it was better than a nice try, it was the bleeding obvious.
Gun cricketer with a cocky attitude.
During his career when watching or listening to Ashes tests, as an Aussie supporter he's always been the player I've wanted back in the pavilion ASAP. To our joy we managed to achieve that this series.
