Not much competition when Sinclair Williams Reid Brown Oxley Seedsmen Scharenberg all injured
Langdon has more AFL experience than Oxley, and hes filled out more so i wouldnt be surprised if he has gone past him in the ranks. I still rate Oxley and i have high hopes on him.
In our full strength side he, Sinclair, Scharenberg and Oxley are fighting for for the last 1-2 spots in the back half, probably the last 2-3 spots if Seedsman plays more of a wingman role.

call me crazy but i reckon Witts isn't ready and having 2 inexperienced ruckman is bad. Much prefer to have Grundy and White sharing the rucking.
Witts is ready enough imo. We will destroy Grundy if we make him ruck on his own all season. It's fine to back him against teams who only play with one ruck, like Norf, but against teams who play 2 he's going to get crushed. And if we have to play a ruck then it's really a choice b/w playing Witts or Hudson and I'd take Witts every time even if he is a slightly less effective ruckman.

btw your not crazy, I'd guess that I'm very much in the minority in thinking Witts should play this week :D

And you'd have to conclude with almost every one of our small/medium defenders out if Armstrong cannot even make it as an emergency much less break into the side this does not bode well for his chances of ever seeing senior action. Clarke being made emergency over him despite his game against Freo speaks volumes.

The preseason basically exposed all of Armstrong's flaws. This will turn out to be a bigger waste than the Russell experiment.

Good side considering our outs.
Hopefully the team starts like this:

B - Maxwell Frost Toovey
HB - Lumumba Keeffe Langdon
C - Swan Beams Young
HF - Fasolo Cloke Sidebottom
F - Elliott White Blair
R - Grundy Macaffer Pendlebury
INT - Adams Ball Goldsack Dwyer

Would prefer it like this

B - Maxwell Frost Toovey
HB - Goldsack Keeffe Langdon
C -Lumumba Beams Young
HF - Swan Cloke Sidebottom
F - Elliott White Dwyer
R - Grundy Macaffer Pendlebury
INT - Adams Ball Fasolo sub Blair

People are quick to forget how good a player fas was/is.
In his 2nd season in 2012 he was so impressive especially getting stints in the midfield.
His work in traffic and just being clean is awesome, great dukes, goal sense and kicking.

One of the best youngsters on the list, thats right youngsters, only into his 4th season as a player, compare that to someone like Sinclair who is into his 5th season. Stop the worrying, this kid is a GUN

It's offense vs defense. I see Langdon as a shut down player and Oxley more as a loose man/third tall creative type. I think there is room for both in the side.

I like the idea of Fas bringing the ball out of defence, getting a bit of run across the middle and delivering in to the forward line. He is an elite kick, and we desperately need someone to make clean passes to the forwards.
Still don't know why so much hate on Armstrong.
I don't mean to pry, but you always support the indigenous players, even those who the majority of posters don't respect as players. I mean, we all loved Brad Dick and were devastated when injury forced him out of football. Yet Armstrong is regarded as a wasted selection by many, but not by you. Is there a reason why you particularly like indigenous players and back them when others won't? Personally, I like that you are what you are because it makes you a recognizable character on our board.:)

Best thing about fas to me was his confidence with set shots, and general accuracy in front of goal. He never looked nervous or panicked, just went back and kicked it. In a side that at the time was so inaccurate that was a great asset, and we certainly right now could use his talents in front of goal as well as off the back line.
It's a real shame he got injured last year, given his talent and youth, he could well have developed at the same rate that beams has. Could really become a star forward in the realm of Steve Johnson, Lecras, Davis etc..

I think a forward line of Cloke, Reid, White, Elliot, goldsack, and Fas would be pretty formidable.

Where does this "elite kick" tag come from? A few people have used it but unless it refers to style I don't see any real basis for it. K.Eff: 2011-62.2%, 2012-70.8%, 2013-50%. Nobody ever labels Maxy as an elite kick yet his figures over the last 5 years read 74.6, 72, 70.9, 69 and 69.8%. Just an observation.

Armstrong is an elite kick... as long as the target is 20-30 metres away and he isn't under any pressure.

It's the style in which he kicks it. Fasolo is damaging when he kicks the ball, Maxwell isn't. I'd say Fasolo's average efficiency comes from taking higher risk options by foot, which may or may not be a good thing.

I always backed Leon, Krak and Brad Dick because I loved watching them play, they were football magicians and watching them kick goals was incredible. Daicos was my hero back in the day and guys with skills like him are always my favourites I loved Didak as well. Nick Davis god forbid. tarrant and Rocca, I loved watching Jack Anthony and medhurst in 2009. Right now Its Jamie Elliot and Scott Pendlebury astonishes me.

I passed by several training sessions over summer and Armstrong stood out in the training drills, for his footskills, personality, and general skill level. He looked a skill level above many other players out there, even our more experienced players. He continually made those beautiful passes out in to the perfect space for his running target to receive and continue play. Not many players with that kind of skill in the side. His first couple of practice matches were pretty good, and sure he had a fair shocker in one of the nab games but seems so many peoples minds were already made up against him they wrote him off there and then. He's got some defensive things to work on but he isn't the complete spud so many people here make him out to be. If he can improve his defensive game he will be a very useful player. He's certainly a class above the likes of Jordan Russell and simon buckley who held similar back line depth positions. I think he's a chance to have a positive impact on the team, and with so many back line injuries he will get a chance no doubt.

If he isn't a complete spud how come he can't get a game in a Collingwood defensive unit missing about 6-7 players through injury? How come he could never make Sydney's best 22? He is nearly 25 years old if he was decent he would be well and truly cemented in a best 22 for years by now. Will be delisted at the end of the year I gaurentee you this, just like Krak Jolly and Didak who you BET me would get picked up (did you ever honour that bet?)

Lol You didn't make that bet. You pulled out because you didn't agree to the terms.

Reid + Seedsman + Brown = 6-7? Players aren't picked on ability alone you realise? I'm not in here very often but I'm hoping that one day I'll see you say something, anything, positive. There's something in the saying that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, especially when it's about the football club and its players whom you claim to "support".

Reid+Seedsmen+Brown+Sinclair+Williams, plus depth options Oxley/Scharenberg (and if ur being generous throw in gault/broomhead too) so yeah 6-7.

Maybe you should invent your own forum where people can only have positive opinion's on everything, I'm sure it would be VERY popular and VERY interesting... "Every player is great ! Hey I agree, yeah I also agree! Agreed then" What a utopia :drunk:

Saying I never say anything positive is cringe-worthingly ignorant, my posting history is there for all to see, go have a look .

This sort of post annoys me. He had a few good games but failed to put on pressure defensively. Just because you kick goals doesn't make you impressive.
