He did look hindered towards the end of the year and I would imagine a hip problem would be a large cause of this.

I just don't understand why Essendon supporters jump on him so quickly and often.

Same as why so many Eagles fans bag Priddis. They're idiots

Who here ordered this humble pie? Anyone? OK, no you're having some coffee, sure you can wait, Mr Stanton will serve you next season.

Hip issue obviously wasn't from body contact. Barely win a contested possession to save himself.
Seriously though, as much as I appreciate everything that Stanton has done for Essendon, I think it is time to move on.
He may have a reasonable year or 2 at another club but for too long now he has been well below what we need with speed and endurance.
Running laps around the tan in great times does not compare to getting bumped and tackled.
He does not put his body on the line too often and instead of trying to win possession he concedes it and then tries to tackle.
Regardless of his Hip injury for the last few weeks this is his temperament. He can slot a goal from time to time but it is normally off the great work from people down field and he is the bloke that has luckily found himself free at the right time.

Personally I don't see us improving enough to challenge for a flag as long as we have players like Stanton and possibly howlett taking up spots in our 22 most weeks.

We need to get blokes like for example Brad Hill, Isaac Smith that run all day but are pretty quick also. Stanton always looks tired and is as slow as a wet week. His skills are below average and does not run both ways. His position to me definitely is one that needs to be upgraded.

Forget playing him as a half forward he is not a good enough mark or lead.
Forget playing him across half back because one thing is for sure I would not count on him having enough mongrel and urgency to be reliable down there.

Shoot me down, call me what you like, this is my opinion and the opinion of many long time Essendon and Football followers in general that I know.

I think we all suspected he was carrying some form of niggle.. was barely 'there' for the last month or so.

Sorry but I don't know if there is a need for 'humble' pie on this one. Very few have said he is bad, more that he is now on the fringe of our midfield group moving forward. I still think this is the case.

Won't be upset if we keep him, but I still feel that making a smart trade for him now, may be the best outcome long term.

When you put you cross the white line ALL excuses are rendered null and void. Considering the surgery happened this week, there is a high probability that Brett entered the game knowing he wasn't right. It begs the question of both the club and the individual "should he have played", as a club the lesson should've been learnt along time ago don't take injured players into a final.

With that in mind; all critism of Brett's performance is fair and reasonable. He wasn't effective throughout the game, and his suitability moving forward can only be judged by his performance on the ground. No excuse is legitimate!

Yeah it probably is a cheap shot but is it of the mark?
Yes. You don't play 230 games and run as hard as he does without some toughness, both physical and mental.

Yes, he's not a hard as nails type like Chapman or Selwood, but that's not a hanging offence.

His hip injury is from wear and tear- basically all hip injuries are.

If your going to give a guy that has played 230 games a cook at least have the decency to get his name right. It's Brent not Brett.

Who is this Brett of whom you speak?

Yeah it probably is a cheap shot but is it of the mark?

Absolutely it is off the mark. He plays the role the coaches ask him to. When body contact is required, he wears it. He backs into packs and gets smashed and gets no credit for it. When people see a high uncontested possession count they cry bloody murder, when the coaches see it they say good job Brent for doing your job and getting lose on the outside.

was it last year or the one before where he took the space in front of kennedy in a marking contest and broke his shoulder or something. We found out a few weeks later.
That was the infamous booing game and for the record, was blown out of proportion as well.

The hip injury would be from general wear and tear. Playing 230 games of AFL football leads to wear and tear.

The crack about lack of body contact is just a cheap shot.

The fact that the ignore list doesn't work on Tapatalk is a real bugbear of mine.

All relative isn't it? Go stand by the fence at a game, listen to the sound of bodies smashing - fine to question whether a player is hard enough for AFL, but anyone who mocks a player for not being so fails to understand that just getting out there probably makes them much harder than they.

Stants 'ain't Glenn Archer but he's generally harder than what he served up against North. I say this having excelled at reserves level in the ammos for 50 games - the hardest, toughest level if the game there is.

Fair play to Stants, but should have put his hand up and let someone take his place.
May just have been the case where the coaching staff thought he would be better than his replacement. Poor call in hindsight though if that is the case.

If every player carrying an injury did that, the season would be over by May.
