don't like the idea of wasting a pick on a guy who is 31 in may and with one kidney
he has been a great warrior and may still be but i'm uncomfortable
though as things have panned out, i'm guessing and bar injury
BMac will play Talia, Roberts off the bat to galvanise the grp
and having the big cat down back will offer some added flexibility
releasing roughhead to play high forward (coz im still to be impressed by a guy who has all through his career been bathed by B graders (not to mention A grade forwards)

status luke warm on the trade

Love than is nothing more than a trade in attempt to save Maccas job

Anyone that thinks a 3 year deal at 500k for a bloke that has never been the number one backman at his club and has the medical issue is good business for our club is baffling to me.

R we developing or plugging holes?

Stick to the plan they say and then they agree with this ???

Wow

I just posted this in the list management thread, but it's probably more appropriate here. Hopefully provides some answers for those that are struggling to see a consistent approach to our development.

The thing that most people aren’t taking into consideration when looking at our list management is that McCartney is trying to build a culture more than a list. That is why guys who actually fill a need on our list like Jones and Tutt are being let go, and probably why we are looking at a guy like Lonergan.

Like it or not the club is invested in McCartney and his plan for the club going forward so we probably need to accept that this off-season is as much about getting people with the right attitude in as getting players who play the right position.

This is the most accurate assessment of where we are at that I have read on this board. I have considered posting on this matter in many a thread but have often felt that people will misunderstand the significance of the issue. I think anyone who has worked in an intense environment understands the necessity of developing culture first and foremost.

Developing culture is not about making or keeping people happy, but rather it is the ability to create a space where people can be challenged and growth can occur. It requires a strength of character and people who know themselves well.

The reason i am committed to the current regime is that i see this self-awareness and the desire to grow a club and a culture the proper way (even though it takes a lot of mistakes and a whole heap of time to get there).

Of all the things to criticise Lonergan for, mentioning he has 1 kidney as a reason why not trade him in is the one of stupidest things I've read.

How many years ago did it happen? How many games has he missed in the past 5 years because of it? How many premierships has he won with 1 kidney?

So who's ringing Michael Voss
So who's ringing Bomber Thomson
So who's ringing Brendan Bolton
So who's ringing John Worsfold
So who's ringing ?..

Not looking forward to this thread over the next few days.

Big statement. The senior players have controlled this club for too long and looks like it's time for a new regime.

With the news that our CAPTAIN, Ryan Griffen, has requested a trade to GWS as well as players such as Cooney, Jones, Tutt etc also wanting to leave this has now become somewhat of a mutiny.
Add to this the various murmurings about a rift between other senior players and coaching staff my question is...What the hell is happening at our club?!!

Sorry need Macca gone we are losing everything atm, Griffen, Cooney, Jones, Tutt, Higgins all want to go where will all our cap room go to players that don't deserve it, who captains the side now?

There is stamping your your mark and then there is doing a Melbourne we are headed down a Melbourne path

Yes. The others I can handle albeit sad news. This is a disaster though. I don't care that it will likely net us that key tall we need, it is an absolutely horrible look and will only result in our kids being thrown straight into the deep end next year without knowing how to swim. Absolutely unprecedented to lose this many players from all age groups.

Which kids exactly? Wallis, Libba, Hrovat, Bontempelli, Macrae, Stringer? All perfectly capable midfielders that would get a game at any other club. Plus a lot of them have leadership qualities.

I'm trying to look for positives in a bleak situation.

Why the hell LOCK it ????

What so when all the things we have been saying come true you want to run and hide.
Where are the people syaing the club is bigger than the individual now !!!

We have an entire playing group that dont like the coach and a coach we cannt payout because of a stupid decision to be extended.

So you can all get on here and paint the brightest of bright pictures but if you were being true to yourselves youy would be painting that picture all in BLACK.

This is a CRAP day for the club. People will need to vent so bloody hell - let them vent !!!

I don't think there are any pro Macca people anymore ahah

Even if Griffen does stay due to contract obligation, we all know he wanted out.

So it seems to many that either Macca or Griffen go. Or both.

Griff's gone, Macca stays.

I'm talking more about the Professor's of the world who will just go "Told you so!"

No player is bigger than the club. That's been the message from the club before. Up until now, it has not been true. With the news Griffen is gone, it truly means the club that is bigger than the players.

We're now changing the entire culture of the club, and it's actions being taken. No longer is it just empty words: things are happening with an eye to the future. It'll be a while before we know whether this is a good or bad thing.

This is a watershed moment for the club though.

I'm still leaning on the side of pro-Macca, even with the Griffen news.
Terrible news, BUT, it will net the team some valuable picks/players. Plus the team will still be left mostly with players who are very much a part of the new regime. A full rebuild in every sense.

Hopefully they use all the bargaining power they have. And so far it looks that way with the tweet announcing that he is a required player and will be expected to play for the Dogs in 2015.

We missed the opportunity to avoid this by getting rid of McCartney earlier. (Didn't mean for that to sound so harsh, but the damage has been done is what I meant - not sure what the **** our club will do if we sack Macca now)

I had no idea the discontent amongst the players went so deep.

Lets all take a big breath Mccrakin is in control will be okay.

He wants to attract good people to the club make us a proud club.

There is a cue wanting out and when I last checked no one wanting in.

Griffen is a brother to all the players at the club.

I was a sad panda when someone changed the thread name back from "Lets sack the coach" thread to the McCartney thread..

I was looking forward to so many laughs.. Now I dont see the point..

Calm down, he is still a required player. How much did he play this year? Was he ever at his best?

Yes he could claim poor injury management but then was he ever comfortable as captain and it was reported that some young players were not happy with some of what he said.

If he wants out and with FA next year, he has the upper hand.
