Oppo Camp Discussion on other club's trade/draft decisions

Can tell you from a good source that some home truths were delivered by the coach and some of the Doggies didn't like what they heard.

Probably explains why the likes of Grif, Coons, and co never rose above mediocroity.
Yet apparently Griffin is worth pick 4 and 7? I just don't get it....

They don't have their first pick; it's assigned to drafting Heeney.
The only picks they have is the Malceski compo & picks from 4th round & later... Their 1st (Heeney), 2nd (Hiscox) & 3rd (Davis) rounders were all used on academy players

If i was the dogs id take peter wright and say thank you very much. They got good youth coming through the midfield. They can get rid of a 29 yo mid and get in a FF giant that runs like a midfielder for the next 10 years.
I cant believe their melting down over their.
They might even get pick 4 and a player.

About time the AFL stopped the huge advantages that Sydney has been given. It has been magnified this year, with their recruitment of high quality academy players. But having said this, the advantages will still continue with COLA but in a different format:

"As it stands, COLA will be phased out over the next two years and replaced in 2017 with a new rent subsidy that will be paid from the league to lower-paid players."

The advantages will continue.

I think it's harsh. Afl making the rules as they go along.. The Afl is the most artificial sporting organisation in the world
So any new rule bought in is making it up as it goes?? I don't think so. It'd be better if they weren't so reactionary but it's the same as any other code in the world.

I think the dogs fans are getting ahead of themselves on their board. Pick 4, 19 and boyd for griffen for example.

Swans must have the books full thatd be why and the afl have said alright your overs you cant bring in any big trades or free agents for a bit

don't make up a rule and implement it a week before trade week. That's farcical ... Just like our politicians , no long term vision

I don't like reactionary rule changes much, but if it helps quell a side that recently won a flag then added Tippett & Franklin... have missed the finals only a handful of times in 25 years, I have no sympathy - ZERO.

But the premiers just brought in frawley and o' rouke this year and who knows who'll they get next year. Why isn't there a restraint of trade for them? Swans are playing by the rules and yet are punished? That's just absurd

So to make it fair no doubt the AFL will calculate the median house prices withing 15km of each footy club and calculate the subsidy payable to each player.
(Yeah right sure they will ).
Its somewhat simple to say that Sydney is dearer than everywhere else. SHit! Melboure is more expensive than Brisbane. I just hope they don't decide that housing is so cheap in Frankston that the saints players need to pay money back to the AFL.

Like politicians they are creating a diversion from the fact the Swans have got Mitchell, three more academy players including Heeney and next couple of years get more very good FS and academy picks under value. They are trying to look proactive in the future as the southern teams crack it over their future list.

They can afford it because Sydney took a huge chunk when they pinched Buddy.

It's the right thing to do, but fair dinkum the AFL needs to lift it's game..
Need to put a plan together, to iron out the inequality throughout the competition..
From the fixture, to the tribunal, through to FA..

The rules are wrong and are being corrected, hawthorn have the same salary cap as us, the swans nearly a million more. It's a rule that definitely needs amending.

The Cola yes but restraint of trade? Mind boggling decision by the AFL.
They are welcome to trade… just need to stop receiving COLA.

It shows how big an advantage it is when they would prefer not to do any trades over 2 years than cut out COLA.

FFS, these guys have just been handed a top 3 talent draft player at pick 18.

You could call this move by the AFL is a greed/stupidty tax, the AFL have given them a massive leg-up for years which was highly controversial already… and then they have the audacity to recruit the 2 biggest name forwards on obscene contracts… which really just highlighted how absurd their salary situation was.

The AFL created COLA, gave it to Sydney to use to lure players, and the Swans have worked within the parameters given to them. Now out of nowhere the AFL decide to change the rules on them, after they've written the allowance into each contract and factored this into their salary cap. Not only do the AFL take away the advantage they set, but they do it with one weeks notice. Geeze, the swans got stiffed badly, and the AFL look like idiots.

By all means take COLA away. I'm against it anyway. But don't just make up a rule one week before trading is about to begin when you approved the Buddy deal and have known about it for one whole year now.

I think the Swans will be fine, but this is mismanagement on a whole new level. Earlier in the thread I said 'not even the AFL are that stupid' in regards to the Ryder deal, but I may have to eat my words. This is pretty stupid.
