So considering most of us didn't really know what Eade even did in this role, why does appointing Balme in the same role draw so much praise and excitement?

He went to the Cats in 2007. Well look what they done since then

Admittedly it would have been better to elevate someone from the BF permanent opposition but this will have to do.

What, when Ablett, Bartel, Corey, Chapman, Selwood, Enright, milburn, Johnson, Scarlett, Ling...............were all in their primes.

Balme will be great to have around the club but he's no silver bullet.

People need to assess our list and development for what it is. We need to stop pretending there is only one missing link from a return to premiership success.

We have a long road to travel.

I think it's a combination of us & Rocket not knowing what he was doing/did.
At least with Balmey, we know he knows what he's doing:thumbsu:

One thing I always admired with Balme is he's a genuine straight shooter, has the media fawning over him, doesn't use corporate spin and seems to get everyone pulling the same direction.

These traits appeal massively to me and will benefit the club no doubt. Always good to have a new person come into a club, especially an experienced person whose coming from a very successful environment.

I think tha Balmey has runs on the board.
Where as a Eade was new to the Football directors admin role...he was learning on the job.
I think he is an upgrade in experience & achievements.
Just a good fit for the club at this time.

'Interesting'. Is that as effusive as you get Mark or you thought we might have landed someone better?
Interesting is exactly what I think it is. Personally I am far from convinced the job actually needs filling in the context of budgets no longer being limited simply to paying capacity by virtue of the tax. Balme is interesting because he knows Collingwood, he knows Buckley and he has some attributes we need. In particular the go between for players and the old hand that Walsh was pre Eade. Interesting mostly because it is as much a personality appointment as anything IMO. He's probably as good a choice as we could have made in the circumstances we are in.

I'm not saying whether Balme will be good or bad for us, or whether Eade was good or bad for us, because I genuinely don't know. I just want someone to explain what these guys actually do, and why Balme will be so good in the role.

Wasn’t they Badly Underperformed in 06. So what happened to change that much they did

So in that context it is a good, great or shit appointment? Interesting is not really an evaluation of the particular appointment so much as a chance to describe the general situation of the club. The club is all its bit parts and I'd like to know your evaluation of the bits.

Is Balme to your mind a good appointment?

I answered that. As I said, probably as good a choice as we could have made in the circumstances we are in. I find it particularly interesting because he's the right fit right now. He has a CV at Geelong, has coached himself and has perspective on player and coach dynamics from pre and post Geelong's success under Bomber.

and he was at pies from 1998 to 2006. We came a long way from 1999 to 2002

WTF? Buckley went to visit but Balme thought Bucks was after ideas as to who they could go for. Balme was surprised when he found out that it was him Collingwood were after.
****in hell, is there no end to Buckley's poor people skills? He deceived Balme and sucked him into taking the job!
SACK BUCKLEY!!! This is an outrage.

For those that wonder what Balmey will bring to the club, spend 15 minutes and watch the above link, (thanks Sugar) as they speak in glowing terms of the man.
I'll believe you:D

it is taking FOREVER to download

It's official.

The new injury update will be known as "Balme's Cenovis Injury Update".

Vale Blackmores.
I doubt Balmey will do the weekly Blackmores...he will Palm it off to one of the assistant coaches...

Just on this, have you guys you ever heard Balme talking about Geelong player injuries? He's the most cagey operator out there. For those who whinge about the club lying about injury reports, prepare for a meltdown this season.

People will stop whinging if he have success

Balme knows exactly how to achieve success

This is an amazing addition

So if you had to line up all the possible Eade replacements, where does Balme fit? Bottom quartile, top quartile?
