4 ND picks. 4 rookie picks. Makes you think we definitely have a player we really want at pick 70. Interesting.
could mean we think we can get Wright & 4 mids instead of 3? i am only guessing....
could mean many things. i am not overly suprised at the move & do find it rather interesting, all will be revealed draft night.

I think Durdin could be the best player for us. Sures up our defense solidifying it with Rance, Astbury, Grimes and others, giving us ruck support and some forward relief as well! Really could balance up our KPP list forward, back and ruck while given us the quality tall we need!

Wish we had more pick 12's to be honest!
you want ruck support get wright now.

Give me:
12. Weller
33. Cavka
52. Drummond
70. Neilson

Rookie:
RP1. Teia Miles
RP2. Nick Mellington
RP3. Josh Deluca
RP4. Jye Bolton
RP5. Matt Arnot
Cat B Rookie: Ivan Soldo

That would be my ideal draft haul. Addresses all our list needs. Weller Cavka Drummond Mellington & Bolton bolster the midfield bringing a mixture of speed skill hardness & class to the group. Nielson gives us another developing KPD for the future. Deluca is a small forward type who has some tricks and Miles gives us a small defender to look at as a replacement for Newman in 12 months time. Arnot gets a second chance to try and prove himself again, while Soldo gives us a developing ruckman as well.

Looking at Wright he appears to move around like a mobile ruck man who can play forward. According to some reports Wright sees himself more as a forward and his father more a ruck man. I think the father may be a bit less emotional in his viewpoint and possibly more astute by being possibly more independent. Wright may be more a ruck man that can rest forward but apparently he still needs to fine tune the Ruck according to some.

It is interesting because what RFC really needs is ruck support, defensive tall support and also forward tall support unlike any other team really! So Durdin offers most in this regard by what he provides aerially with mobility and most importantly without making us too top heavily allowing our other bigs of the future hopefully to gel together.

Having said that ideally RFC wants Durdin, Wright, Duggan as well as others like Cockatoo and Weller! Truth is the hardest for RFC to get if the quality is there probably Durdin. If he gets to Adelaide he will probably stay there so it would be hard to trade for him or use FA if in Adelaide. If Wright gets to Freo or Adelaide might be able to get him via a trade or FA later as we get closer to our window and the interstate clubs need to rebuild which would not suit Wrights time horizon. Likewise we could chase Weller later as a RFC tragic if and when RFC and Weller's career window aligns via FA or a trade

thats possibly 5 Players we're keen on, seems we'll have to make a choice as more than 1 may get through to our pick.... this Draft can't come along quick enough!

I would want more but I excluded guys like Lever and Laverde who I assume will not get to us. These kids really are ideal for our premiership window in the future!

If Wright gets to us it will Prob mean gws went a Goddard and Pickett and Gold Coast went a Langford or Lever. Which then have Geelong taking Durdin or Weller and West Coast taking a Cockatoo or Weller.
Would have to something along the lines of:
1- StKilda Petracca
2- Melb Brayshaw
3- Melb McCartin
4- Gws Laverde
5- Coll De Goey
6- Gws Pickett
7- Gws Goddard
8- GC Langford
9- Coll Moore
10- Geel Durdin
11- WC Cockatoo
12... Would leave us with some interesting choices. Still on the board would be,
Lever
Wright
Weller
Duggen
Ahern

I wouldn't like to be the Richmond recruiter who decides to pass on both Wright & Lever and goes midfield. But I'd hate to miss out on a Weller or Duggen.
Tough choices coming up for Tiges. Will be pretty interesting to see where our coaching staff sees as a main point of weakness. Whether it will be will our midfield lack of speed is in need of a bolster so we have more depth in around the footy, do we see Ivan's reign coming to an end and not to confident In a Vickery Griff future, and maybe at the same time having a foil for Jack ? Or do we think our key backs with Astbury and Grimes being so injury prone (and to some extent Rance) and Chaplin coming to an end, do we need to shore up our suspect key back positions?

This is will be an interesting first round selection for the tiges to see which area needs the added injection of top end talent. Which area is in most need.
I just hope we take the best available and then use our next couple of selections wisely too.
There will be options at pick 12. Which is much better then having no options if we had of traded it for a busted up Jack Trengove (which may I add, proves why even conteplating trading your first round pick is so high risk, with possibilities of a top end talent falling to your selection. But that's a story for another day).
The only real dissapointment I can foresee personally would be if they were to decide to gamble and reach for a talent that is outside of the common radar. Eg Ellis, Lamb, Menadue and even a Cockatoo at pick 12 would all serve as way to far of a reach.
If I were sitting at the table draft night and a Wright, Weller, Duggen, Lever (or Durdin) were all on offer, I would have to go back to the background checks, personatly, attitude and work rate will be a large part of this selection. Then after that I would rate on talent who is the furthest developed and who has the largest upside/payoff. Then I would take into account team needs, which area has been indentified by coaching staff as "Area of need" basis.

After all that deliberating and shuffling of papers I would've more then likely had ran out of time and was forced to forfeit our pick, then sacked for indecision. Haha

yup this is all true, but I will say it again how you can pass on wright?

yup this is all true, but I will say it again how you can pass on wright?
Personally, Ive gone back and forth on Wright. He is very physically imposing in person. Huge lad. Big red nut with tree trunk legs. But has been known to be quite "forward in going backward" if you get my drift. His dukes are not as developed as a McCartin, Boyd or Pattisons of comparable players either.
But then you take into account his running ability, work rate, tap work at stoppages, versatility and you wonder how you could pass on such a talented 203cm 100kg monster.

This video focuses for a full quarter on Wright and watches his running patterns. Be it in the video he doesn't get a single touch, his work rate is elite for a 2 meter giant. His ruck work is pretty solid for a kid who missed a lot of his bottom age year through injury. A year of competition in VFL and learning from a great AFL ruckman in Ivan Maric I think his tapework and stoppage work could become better then Ivan's in a seasons time after he turns that puppy fat into real lean hardened muscle.
As to your question if I could pass on Wright. My answer would be yes for a Durdin/Lever, no for a Weller/Duggen

Well if Lever is there its a no brainer, he is the better player/prospect at this stage. Weller I am not to concerned with either, as a Richmond tragic he deserves a FA/trade pursuit from us later. We shouldn't be wasting a high pick on someone like Weller who we can get/chase later!

Weller would be far from a wasted pick. Let's not get too carried away with the fact he barracks for the tiges. 4-5 years in a lets say a Geelong system. It's not like he will be taking a hike on mates because of a childhood filled with watching fairly dissapointing Richmond outfits. I wouldn't be counting on his loyalties being so closely tied to the Tigers. Anything could happen in 4-5 years.
Also Lever or Durdin being available will be on which way GWS and Geelong decide to go. They could take both of those players with their selections.

Ha ha, you don't think our attractiveness relates just about homing in on RFC tragic's do you? That would be disrespectful and shortsighted from our club of the players interests. No, it would be more like Hawthorn where recently for us in 4+ years when our list is definitively far superior regarding premiership windows than Geelong, Free, Adelaide, Carlton, North etc... so players choose us of their own accord. The fact they may be a RFC tragic would be just a sweetner and acknowledgement from the club the club cares about players who care about them like Hunt, Petterd etc..

I get that everyone focuses on what a player will bring to our side but I don't get why it isn't measured what a player will gain by being in our side.

Everyone talks about Cotchin getting help and what a player he'd be if he did.

Well what about those we draft?

Given what we've got who is most likely to blossom to the upside?

It's a team sport right?

What makes you think when a poster talking about the improvement to the team they are not including the improvement of the new recruit from being part of the new team eg. Hunt as a part of the team improvement?

so basically it's Weller or Duggan

So
so basically it's Weller or Duggan
Weller Duggan Ellis in that order I believe. Unlikely that we'll be taking a KPP or ruck option like Wright with our first pick at this stage. It's midfield depth all the way.

Very short-sighted IMO.

Still don't buy that he'll be available at 12 and I get the feeling our guys don't believe it either. Could be a bit of a pause draft night through if he is.
