Western Jet Brenton Payne’s draft prospects keep growing after stunning efforts in the TAC Cup and and AFL Under-18 National Championships

ACCURATE kick. Strong mark. Can play at both ends of the ground.
That encapsulates why Brenton Payne is a draft prospect, with the 18-year-old producing his best ever season in 2014 to leap into AFL contention.
Standing 193cm, the Western Jets star prefers to be booting goals inside the forward 50m arc but proved in the second half of the TAC Cup season that he is also adept at stopping them.
After representing Vic Metro at the AFL Under-18 National Championships, Payne was summoned to defence by Jets coach Torin Baker in a bid to improve his draft chances.............

Think we've got to be really happy with that. I was told the other day that Sinclair and Payne were a couple who we rated in the ND who didn't get picked up there, so to have gotten them both is something the club's got to be really happy with, especially with Payne still being there at 37. Saw a bit of him at the champs playing at CHF/FF and he kept bobbing up with marks and goals. Seemed to just be in the right spot at the right time a lot. Kicked 9 in the 5 games he played there, but didn't get much of it. 193cm, but pretty damn skinny (just 76kg). Is apparently OK down back as well and is meant to provide good forward pressure and have good repeat sprints.

According to Twomey, Sinclair is J Billings best mate. Yet another "small forward/midfielder" and an "overager" (played in the U18's at 19yo this year and also played 3 games of VFL seniors).

Very happy to have Saad back and that no-one Cam Delaney'd us in the first round! :D

Then we're creating a good club culture and a very good way to keep players together.

I really am looking forward to 2 drafts down the road and seeing these players coming into the prime of their careers. Just gotta hope we don't fall down that Melbourne track of cyclical rebuilds.

There's some serious competition for small/medium forwards spots now.

I would have liked to see a project KPD, but I'll back the recruiters.

Great to have Saady back!

Fair to say the two actual new blokes aren't who I was expecting.

I assume Sinclair is the brother of Collingwood's Ben? If he can produce to the same level he'll be a bit of a steal... Good Scotch boy too.

Payne impressed me during the Champs; whippet-thin, but tall, skilled and lightning fast. A project to be sure, but insurance if Markworth and Siposs don't ultimately make it I'd imagine.

Good to see Saady back. Does he get #21 'back' and Delaney to Maxy's old number? ;)

We might possibly see Brenton becoming a KPD despite being drafted as a KPF?

I assume he is a KPF anyway..

Jack Steven
Jack Billings
Jack Newnes
Jack Lonie
Jack Sinclair

We're starting to give the Demons a run for their money in the competition for the most Jacks.

So where does this leave JBT? I thought we had to use a late pick on him the same as the other international rookies.

Must say had not heard of Sinclair. Only highlights, but seems to be quite skilled and good decision making. Seems to have played less juniors due to cricket, so may have been overlooked for that reason. May be more a high HFF/winger type ultimately. The likeness to Collingwood’s Sinclair is not bad. Maybe even a taller Elliott? I like the fact that they said he has a bit of confidence too. Glad we at added another developing tall.
