i think bruce might have a book in the waiting, and he needs the players to win or it's been a big waste of time.

His books about Hawke and Alan Jones remain unpublished, I don't imagine this one will be any different.

On one his Bomber forum posts he spoke about his motives, having meetings with people etc. And my memory is he stated he had interest in the AFL or Essendon but was approached by either a friend, mutual friend of Hird, or someone connected with Hird.

He had Hardie stay with him. His 'reclusive house' is, or was, a bed and breakfast business. The idea of him as a 'recluse' might be overstated, he ran as a Liberal candidate for Richmond many years ago so must be fairly outgoing, or at least was.
