There are some wildly divergent views emerging on this Board about Frosty.

He was the only Pies player to feature in every game last year.

He restricted an inform Walker on Sat night to 2 goals, after Tex went on a rampage last week. IIRC Frosty did the same thing to Buddy in Round 2 last year.

He is athletic, has a mean punch on him, but fumbles under pressure and is not a good kick. I get the sense his instructions might be simple: stay with your man and punch the bloody ball whenever it comes in.

Has he improved on last year, or is it more of the same? Is that enough?

First of all let me say the pun in the thread title was fantastic (love a good pun)
I am a big fan of Frosty and I think he did a great job on tex especially considering how our midfield was smashed.
However him brown and toovey are all average users of the ball and not great decision makes. I question how long we can keep carrying these 3 in the backline considering the importance of rebound in the current AFL environment.

With respect to all fans, it's irrelevant how good or bad Frosty is, (I am a fan by the way) as we don't have any choice.
Or at least much of a choice, Keeffe was an alternative and clearly isn't now and Moore is too young.
I say we be thankful we've got him and admire his positive attributes.

Isnt the problem more that everyone in our backline at the moment is an average-bad kick? Whilst it'd be nice if he was better I dont see why rebound should be his responsibility

Keeping a rampaging Adelaide to 12 goals, under an avalanche of forward forays is pretty good defending. Frost does his primary role quite well (stop his direct opponent from scoring) the rest of the team needs to stand up and that should start at the other end of the ground.

I think he's great, absolutely kept Walker in control.

I must be looking the wrong way when he disposes of it because I can't really think of any clangers. He's not an elite ball user but he runs away from his opponents and usually dishes off a handball unless he's got a target in space to kick to. Keeps the ball moving quickly by carrying it or dishing off. He's like Brown but with more dash.

I'm a big fan.

He "kept" Taylor Walker to 2 goals?

Remind me how many behinds Walker kicked? Also remind me how many Tex gave off? Frost got owned. Hard. He's too slow, too dumb and is terrible with ball in possession. The sooner Reid gets back the better.

Walker had 11 scoring shots last week and 6 this week. According to AFL stats he had 1 score assist this week and 2 last week. Considering the ball spent a lot of time in their fwd 50 that is pretty reasonable.

I'll remind you of this post the next time we decide to play Reid on big forwards like Hawkins & Buddy. They will own Reid. Frosty does a job for us.
He isn't a good user of the ball, but he stops forwards kicking bags week in & week out yet has played less than 30 games of AFL footy. Cut the kid some slack. Last year he had to play on the oppositions number 1 forward every single week without any help from our experienced defenders like Brown or Reid becasue they were injured all year. The kid did a fantastic job for us.

The fact that it was Frost and not Brown who went to Tex suggests that the coaches see him as our number 1 defensive KPD. When Reid is back, it's Brown whose position is in danger.

Maybe I'm looking for the bad. The number of times I see him not wearing his man like a glove infuriates me. It then gets exacerbated by his horrible disposal and general fumbles.

Last year he WAS pretty good.

I reckon he's pretty glove-like most of the time, like a goddamn gargoyle perched on his opponents shoulder. Occasionally he gets lost as all defenders do if someone puts on a block or if he's gone over to assist a team-mate.

Frost fills a need we have struggled with since before he came into the team. Dealing with tall athletic, quick forwards. Stop wanting everyone to be a champion with no weaknesses and people will be able to see what he offers the team.

He did a good job on Walker. They had 30 shots on goal and Walker as their key forward only had 5 of those. Well done Frosty!

Can't wait to see a defence of:

Williams Frost / Brown Toovey
Seedsman Reid Langdon

Frost & Brown to alternate depending on opposition. 2-3 stoppers and three to set up the play from defence.

Frost is actually quick.

Defenders wont always have the opponents under check 1v1 especially when the midfield gets destroyed like ours did most the game.

Need the back 6 working together with cohesion and have a player peeling off to help curtail the gun forwards.

We do need Reid or a Moore (both) back that I agree with, need to add some class ball users and readers of the play.

Agree. Having both Reid & Moore down back will help Frosty no end. My guess he will still be allocated the oppositions most dangerous forward every week & Moore & Reid will run off him to deliver further down the ground. Frosty is a stopper. That's what he does & I love him for it. God knows how many goals we would be getting beat by if he wasn't stopping the gun forwards from dominating.

Frost looks a hell of a lot better then Brown does atm.

Browny looks immobile and slow.

Brown just seems dumb to me at this point. That stupidity where he randomly decided to fly for a spoil while the Ginger just waited back for him to miss it was just one of the larger wtf moments I've seen in a while. There was literally NO reason for Brown to do that. None whatsoever. He had position on Lynch (Lynch?), he just had to hold his ground and allow the ball over the back to clean up.

It's just....mind bogglingly dumb.

Also once Scharenberg comes back and Maynard is ready we'll have a backline with great disposal.

Patience people.

We'll be spoiled for choice by 2016 I reckon.

Oxley was very solid, including defensively and if he can continue in that vein he might be able to carve out a spot as a lock-down player with good offensive weapons. Two in one which is great. I reckon Maynard might present the same type of skill-set.

If you can have players able to shut down smalls and mediums and also use it well, that is an absolute boon if you also have Scharenberg, Reid, Moore and Langdon as well.
