So Brendan Goddard had to apologise ( a weak and forced apology ) because aired audio of him swearing profanities at Ziebell. Strange that channel 7 chose to air this coverage as with the two crank callers on 3AW - It's very convenient that the seven second delay fails on 3AW and Goddard's swearing somehow gets put to air on channel 7.

We have warped priorities when Goddard has to apologise - Channel 7 should be apologising to Goddard !

AFL can't walk away from WADA before the appeal. That would be such a bad look. I think they will be pressuring WADA to drop the appeal.

They can't pressure WADA to do diddly squat

Hird's dad having his say

Essendon doping scandal: James Hird’s dad stands by his son
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...m_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_content=SocialFlow

JAMES Hird’s father has labelled the World Anti-Doping Agency’s appeal of the Essendon drugs case a “direct attack on Australian sport and our system of government’’.

Allan Hird, who was speaking independently, said the decision by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority not to appeal the AFL’s tribunal decision and instead urge WADA to act, was “an act of a coward’’.

Last week Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said he was appalled WADA would appeal the decision, which will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport later this year.

WADA TO LODGE BOMBERS APPEAL

Mr Hird, who has been previously outspoken about the joint ASADA/AFL investigation, has written to the Federal Minister of Sport Sussan Ley with his concerns.

story-fni5f6kv-1227357710843

In his letter to Ms Ley, Mr Hird states his opinion that ASADA and its chief executive Ben McDevitt should be called to account.

Mr Hird argued that ASADA did not exhaust the legal options available to it and thought that Mr McDevitt flew to the Montreal headquarters of WADA to urge it do the “dirty work’’ for ASADA.

“WADA after the CEO’s lobbying then did a ‘Pontius Pilate’ and asked the other national anti-doping bodies their views,’’ Mr Hird wrote

James Hird remains under intense pressure following the WADA appeal.

“So here we have ASADA taking a domestic Australian sporting matter it lacks the courage to pursue in Australia to WADA ...”

“ASADA has continued to dud the Essendon players since 2012.

“It has allowed their rights to confidentiality ... to be abrogated, it connived with the previous government and the AFL to present a distorted and untrue picture of events that resulted in their being denied the right ... to participate in the 2013 AFL finals.

“And now it has contrived to have the international anti-doping community pursue the vendetta it itself is too cowardly to pursue.”

Mr Hird was dumbfounded that the players’ future could be “determined by a foreign body, based on a case run by another foreign body’’.

“Those 34 Australians (Essendon players) will not have the same appeal rights afforded other Australians,” Mr Hird wrote.

“What is the Parliament and the Government going to do to protect these 34 Australian and restore their rights?’’

James Hird was alerted to his father’s letter last night, but refused to comment.

AFL can't walk away from WADA before the appeal. That would be such a bad look. I think they will be pressuring WADA to drop the appeal.

If the AFL walked away from WADA now it would be showing a similar amount of distain towards WADA as WADA has toward the AFL by appealing its tribunal decision.

Strong words from Hird Snr >

“It has allowed their rights to confidentiality ... to be abrogated, it connived with the previous government and the AFL to present a distorted and untrue picture of events that resulted in their being denied the right to participate in the 2013 AFL finals.

“And now it has contrived to have the international anti-doping community pursue the vendetta it itself is too cowardly to pursue.”

yeah, didnt hold much back

She finishes by saying justice may finally have it's day. Appalling bad opinion piece as usual. Oh and another chance to mention thather son ois an elite athlete. Her former journo father gave her a start in her 'career' and her News Corp chief husband keeps her in a job. Some people have all the luck.
What was Ings saying about the article from Rebecca Wilson?

The Offsiders coverage of the saga is bordering on bizarre. Why Caro is allowed to step foot into the ABC is bewildering.
As reported, Peter Gordon:
“Any lawyer who values basic common law principles and notions of justice will be as appalled as I am that the ASADA/WADA show continues in this way,” Gordon said. “If it wasn’t so tragic and impactful on the players it would be a Monty Python sketch."
Does this even get a mention? Offsiders is incapable of having a objective discussion when Caro is on.

Great letter from Allan Hird. Whack!

It is, but it doesn't really serve any purpose apart from preaching to an already galvanised base. I really think our side should just shut up and not pour any more fuel on the fire. We've already lost the war of public opinion, and no amount of commentary is going to change that, or how this gets treated at CAS, so I don't see the point of writing anything more on this subject until it's been adjudicated on.

Does my head in ppl saying we shredded the documentation on the supplement program. If we deliberately set out to cheat the system, doping 34 players and thought we would fool everyone, surely the ppl that set out to do this would have covered their tracks. If I for example was running a business and was not declaring all my income, I would have 2 sets of books...one with what the tax department would see, and another with what was really going on that does not see the day of light! I can not believe ppl are stupid enough to believe that the records at EFC had TB4 all over them then when the shite hit the fan we destroyed them. Our lack of documents tells me it was an oversight, a mistake, nothing more.

Fair dinkum, I would be more worried about our players being doped...knowing what we know about Dank if there was a perfect book showing legit supplements and some actual evidence

Their argument would be our documentation had TB4 all over it because we thought it wasn't banned and when we found out it was banned we shredded everything. :drunk:

I still hear this arguement all the time though...you shred your documents..your shifty..your guilty

Only from people that have no idea. Even the bodies trying to prosecute us haven't used that line of reasoning. They only say that there was a deplorable lack of record keeping. Which is hard to argue with TBH.

just heard on the Sunday Footy AFL show a Radio interview from Bomber on 3aw, that he's heard that some players will walk if there found Guilty.

if that happens, wont/wouldnt the #AFL have to give the Bombers special Picks in the Draft ? an i think Hirdy should go an get some experienced Coach like Brendan Bolton from Hawthorn

"I think it's wearing thing on a few of them. They might leave and go to another club." - Bomber Thompson on 3AW about @EssendonFC players.

I probably wish Hird's dad kept quiet tbh. Sure father defend son and all but it was never going to go down well IMO.

Does it really matter at this point? Yes it wont go down well but if it wasnt this they would attack us with something else. No point in staying silent any longer.

If our players get found guilty, some players will definitely leave, and I don't think we'll get any draft compensation. If anything at all, we might get to do what we did in the NAB cup. The resulting bottom line would be that we are drug cheats, and why would we ever receive compensation, that being the case? The compensation we'd receive would be high draft picks in subsequent years after finishing at or near the bottom as a result of key players leaving.

As things stand, It wouldn't surprise me that some want to leave anyway if things are't wrapped up by year's end. Put yourself in their shoes. Wouldn't you have had a gutful by now, knowing that your shelf life as a footballer is a very finite commodity.

well yeah, i think some will leave the club, i guess it would depend how long there banned for? they may only get a 3 week ban

Tim Watson said earlier in the week that certain players told him they would walk away from the game if the AFL tribunal found them guilty.

He said some of these guys were reading every word of the daily transcripts from the hearing such was their concern.

Yep, Hird's old man having his say isn't going to make one iota of difference to the amount of vitriol & inaccuracies spewed forth from the Wilson's et al of this world.

**** them all, the more that come out against what is going on here the better.
