Did you actually watch him play in the Eredivisie? Loonerty
No, but he's clearly impressed Mourinho and the highlights (only tell part of a story, I know) look like he's got a lot to work with. 14 goals in 31 appearances is pretty good for a 19 year old.

I'm not getting my hopes up. Thorgan Hazard had similar numbers at the same age and while Thorgan may be a decent player I doubt he will ever make it at Chelsea. I also think Bertrand should play where he will get full minutes most weeks and that's not with us. I'm happy for him but he has a longggg way to go.

Apparently Traore's permit has been granted.

Pretty calm about this transfer window. Our first XI is the best in the league and there aren't many (if any) realistic targets out there that will be worth it.

We all know our aim of being a self-sufficient club so the goal will be in retaining most of our squad. So no big sales means no big name players will come in, which is all fine by me. A few stronger additions to the bench is all we need as the gulf in class between our best players and their replacements was often too big last season (eg. Costa>Drogba & Matic>Mikel).

Cech going is sad but can't begrudge him. The fact that he sat on the bench for most of the year to a junior and never complained shows what a professional and clubman he was to Chelsea. If Remy leaves I will be pissed though, severely underrated and a great weapon to have up our sleeve.

That's the problem though. We're losing guys like Cech and possibly Remy and Luis. Drogba arguably performed better than Falcao last season so that could be another down grade. Mikel seems to have one foot out the door. While he is our whipping boy he has been serviceable over the years. You're not going to find many players that are happy to sit on the bench for that long and come on and perform the role that he did to a decent standard. So far we appear to be weakening our depth which is the concern.

Hopefully we can sign Baba Rahman in the case Luis does leave. Stones would be good too. If Remy leaves, that would leave a bit of a hole, especially seeing as he is quality, so we would really need to sign another striker.

We will only sell if we have someone else lined up or we receive a ridiculous offer. Players can't expect to walk into the first team at Chelsea, if they're not prepared to fit for a spot then I don't want them.

Beogovic and 3m for Cech would be great business.

Falcao for Drogba, I'm happy with this(As long as we hang onto Remy) and I think he will surprise a few.

Mikel....if we can grab someone like a Witsel or Schniederlin(or another decent CDM) than it's a huge upgrade and with the style we play they'll play a lot. I don't think they'll need to worry about game time, Oscar and Ramires will probs be the ones to miss out there.

Baba seems to be close, this would be a cracking pick up. He's a very good young LB and this seems to be the type of business we like to do. Luis would be pushed out the door and transfer fees would be similar.

All this could happen and we've only spent about 20m, this is where it starts getting interesting and where we may have a lash out at a big name target. Pogba or Griezmann would top my list.

I did hear we were interested in Samuel Umtiti a week ago. A 21 year old centre back who has played 100+ league games for Lyon and capable of playing the Left Back position. Could be a good buy for Chelsea, but I think Lyon want to keep hold of their players. (good for me as they're my FIFA team :D).

If we were to buy him, I think it would be for Left Back position imo. He's too small for a PL Central Defender. Barely 6 foot.

It would fit in well with the new LB rumours though.

Lyons president said the other day he's not for sale, plus it's sounding like Baba Rahman is the one we want.

You would think Luis is gone(maybe giving us a bit of leverage in a deal for you know who from Atletico). Babas got big wraps in Germany, apparently most tackles.

Love your work chef...

If you had the choice, who would you rather, Sterling for 40m or Griezmann for 43m?

Correct, highest tackle rate in the Bundesliga in the season gone. Nallad just to add, he's a 20 year old defender who already has a number of international caps for Ghana. Assuming Luis goes back to Atletico, I would love to sign him.

Saw that this morning. Wasnt overly impressed I must say. Didn't see much linking with teamates. Looks like another prospect to be loaned and sold for a profit imo.

Thanks for everything Pete! A true Chelsea legend.

His list of honours says it all really. Not too mention his individual honours on top of those.

Just browsing Wiki again because looking at club Wikis is a good timewaster. Noticing how young Chelsea's keepers are.

With everyone in the senior team within four years of each other, how would the backup players be placed in terms of bench to depth?

I'd say the squad of 18 next season will be:

Ivanovic
Luis
Fabregas
Zouma
Ramires
Oscar
Hazard
Courtois
Remy
Costa
Matic
Willian
Cahill
Terry
Azpilicueta
Loftus-Cheek
Traore
Begovic

So that's 11 + 7 bench.
Next off the rank there would be:
Third striker (be it Falcao, Bamford)
Cuadrado
Ake
(Mikel)

Then the academy kids who aren't on loan, like Solanke, Brown (suspect he may get a loan), Boga (same).
