Anyone who thinks footy is in a bad way and wants to introduce ridiculous rule changes, should watch this Port Vs Adelaide game. Ripping footy.
Watch the melbourne lions game and come back to me. Awful round of footy.

McCartin and Bruce have 7 kicks and 0 goals between them, can we expect any anti-Boyd derpitude from the Fiddlers this week?

It's funny the commentators saying the Tigers a genuine flag contender while they are beating a shit Saints team by 40 points.

Giants v Cats next week, not sure who I want too win. Both have a reasonable draw from here on, a couple of most likely losses with a couple of games with those around us and a few below.
Tigers v Freo the other. Tigers draw gets a bit tougher from here. But with their % they could be out of touch.
Hoping Norf does a classic lolnorf up at the Gabba, the Crows should win at home against the Suns.
Hopefully we win and put that gap back in a few of them again!

6 teams fighting for 3 spots by the looks. Dogs, Giants, crows, pies, norf and cats. Should be fun.

Looking at draw I can see 3-4 wins for each of the clubs, maybe 5 for Norf, gonna be tight

So got to watch casey vs nth blues on saturday
the blues gws trade for jax whitely and pick 18 for pick 7 was the biggest robbery in afl history

God damn carltank stuffed up with that trade

I reckon Boekhorst might crawl his way there. Even though he was a mature aged selection, he's still quite raw and has shown a little bit.

If the Blues go close to getting their shit sorted in the next 2-3 years, he might be handy on the outside.

Still a terrible pick at 19, though.

What the hell is needed to make the game less congested and free flowing? The current state of play is infuriating me as a supporter of the bulldogs but also as a spectator of the game.
I like the idea of two players being inside the fwd 50 at all times. That would suit our fast break footy and toyd would benefit immensely. What are others thoughts?

The main cure is time. The game will evolve and I think it's already starting to change. Players are already sitting off contests and letting the opposition win the hard ball and kick it straight down their throats.

IF a couple of our players from last draft develop muscle and tanks, then there are other ways to move the ball against that zone.
That tactic will draw more players closer to the ball to defend it and thus less sagging off. Probably a tactic to use in Finals football in two years, when no one will be fully prepared for it.

I think boundary throw ins should be brought in 10 - 15m from the line so that the ball lands in the corridor. My pet hate is repeat throw ins. Maybe 2 in the the forward 50 at all times should be trialed during nab cup that would be alright too.

The game will fix itself. These rule suggestions are ridiculous.
It's much like soccer. In the 80s teams would adopt Catenaccio, which was entirely defensive hoping for 1-0 scores. It won a world cup in 82. Since then the game evolved where rarely will an ultra-defensive team beat a great offensive team. Sports evolve, rule changes often have unforeseen consequences.

I think you do the 82 World Cup a disservice IM. Still think it's the best one I've seen. Epic semis and Italy beat those nasty Germans 3-1 in the final. Junior, Socrates, Zico, Rumminige, that french guy, Rossi. Such a good World Cup.

I think that changing the umpire's interpretation of the existing rules is all that's required to fix the game. Alistair Clarkson was just making this point on On The Couch and I was furiously nodding my head as he said all of the things I've been telling Mrs Mutt and Junior Mutt for months.

No need for rule changes, just pay a free kick against anyone who gets caught holding the ball for too long; protect the forwards from being mugged and shepherded off the ball by defenders and stop the scragging of players around contests and around the ground generally (don't allow tackles and jumper holding and arm grabbing of players who don't have the ball.)

Not saying it was bad just that the italians were definitely exponents of Catenaccio style and defensive football. Much like the Swans under Roos when they let loose they were actually a skilled and quality attacking side.

This by a thousand times! Just start playing by and adjudicating properly the rules that are already there.
The damn umpires have trouble following all the rules they have already, and people want to add more?

Mrs Mutt and the Muttling sound as patient and long-suffering as my brood. I'm pleased that they stoically allow Mr Mutt to indulge in his passion. Hats off to them.

I pay dearly for their indulgence....

Can someone explain to me how Cam McCarthy gets dropped for a small forward in Jed Lamb. How does that work.

For one he hasn't touched the ball in over a month, and for 2 Geelong are easily exploited by small forwards as their small backs are slow and not very good, have a look at how any goals smalls have kicked against Geelong

Dave Hughes was good on the footy show last night. Liked the clip of Cooney in the rooms - Sheedy shakes his hand then Coon disinfects his hands with antiseptic foam
