For a final?

In any game. Whether it's the toll exacted by travel, a policy to continually refresh or some other driver, they've never been "old" in the current context.

oldest team 25.96 R13 2013
previous oldest finals team 25.46 EF 2012

Excluding the world wars and the period in between, the 2015 competition is the oldest ever. Some clubs are pushing the envelope. They'll need to recruit young or wither.

It has been mentioned that we are the 2nd youngest side in finals this year. Are we just a super young team throughout history, or is someone telling fibs?

Simpson mentioned in his press conference during the week.

We are young, the Bulldogs are that little bit younger.

Fourth-youngest this weekend behind the Dogs, Adelaide and Richmond. Whoever is left out of the 22 on Sunday won't have a bearing.

The Bulldogs at 25.02 are the "second-oldest, youngest" team to be involved in an Elimination/Qualifying Final weekend, after Collingwood (25.09) in 1980.

But yes, West Coast are historically a young team. Each club's oldest team since 1987:

27.81 Port Adelaide 2005 R15
27.70 Hawthorn 2015 QF*
27.65 Brisbane 2004 R22
27.62 Fremantle 2015 R22
27.57 Geelong 2010 PF
27.43 Sydney 1989 R16
27.42 North Melbourne 2015 R21
27.17 Adelaide 2006 R16
27.17 St.Kilda 2012 R12
27.05 Carlton 2001 R17
26.96 Western Bulldogs 2010 PF
26.43 Essendon 1990 R10
26.35 Melbourne 1995 R11
26.30 Collingwood 2006 R10
26.26 Richmond 2001 SF
26.01 Fitzroy 1994 R1
25.96 West Coast 2013 R13
23.88 Gold Coast 2015 R15
23.68 Greater Western Sydney 2015 R3

Quite a few of those teams were going/about to go over the cliff.

Think Simmo was referring to the list as opposed to the team presented on field

Probably. Usually list age is cited by struggling clubs. I don't buy into it... If they're not getting a game in the 22, I'm not going to guess at their potential or give them credit for being young. The age of the 22 is finite, measurable and comparable with other clubs, present and past. And meaningful IMO, although I've been taken to task on this board on occasion. Unsuccessfully I might add... I just wheel out the magic table and silence follows. :)

The data is objective, but the extrapolation of meaning can be cut and twisted to suit any agenda

I think there is merit in discussing the age of the list for teams down the bottom, particularly if they are old and struggling - it suggests a lot of dead wood is needed to be cut

Ultimately though when it comes to winning finals, it isn't the squads that wins, rather the 22 - so I agree

Very unlikely, but possible. While I don't know how much he trained, I believe he was sighted at training on Tuesday, so that's something.

I'm happy he's not playing ...wet night ...chasing tail sometimes ....big chance o hurting it further

Let's get him right ....

I hope smith plays for Hawks and we can target it ......

I hope smith plays, he won't be 100% fit

That's an advantage for west coast

All I know is that he has been listed. But yes, there is a chance he still won't play - very well could be a late out.

Rioli I was reading die at have great record against west coast .....11 goals in nine games and not many in Perth (red from article)

This worries me

Can't wait for this game ...I have the day off tomorrow so kinda wish I was working to make day go faster

But will fill the day

Looking at weather North west winds ......means rain but it's not looking as bad as early in the week ...freos weather will be worse
