The big difference that gives me confidence is that there is no amateur hour shenanigans going on in our Admin.

The current lot has rebuilt the club from the foundations up... both on and off the field IMO. We have / are assembling an elite team both on and off.
I think setting up our own vfl team and moving back to moorabbin is going to make a huge difference on and off tge field.
Club needs to be pushing hard for this to happen as soon as possible. Get back to our roots and time it with our push into finals and watch them flock out of homeland in moorabbin all the way back to the membership booths.

A rumour from a while ago went along the lines of Carlton making inappropriate contract offers to Carlisle's management whilst he was in contract. This apparently occurred earlier in the year & suffice to say Carlisle accepted the offer. Essendon caught wind & were close to making a formal complaint to the AFL. Due to this, Carlisle's management denied such doing & continued sorting other offers from teams such as the Dogs, North & of course St Kilda however intentions were always to go to the Blues & the rest was a charade.

I've got a limited understanding of clubs approaching player managers & what can be said & done under those rules but interesting rumour nonetheless.

The fact the Blues are still in the mix doesn't sit well with me & suggests there could be some substance to the rumour.

Things change & perhaps the rumour is true however St Kilda have come in with a late offer that has changed Carlisle's mind. Perhaps the Blues change of coach has played a part. Perhaps a bit of both.

The Blues with their dodgy brown paper bag methods....the more things change the more they stay the same.

Any chance we'd swap our 1st round draft pick with Collingwoods 1st round for freeman??
About as much as Collingwood moving to Tasmania

I can't wait to see our future forward line in action.

HF: Sinclair, Bruce, Billings
F: Lonie, McCartin, Membery

Perfect balance; Bruce using his Roo-like work rate over the ground with Paddy making inside 50 his own. Membery to provide the perfect 3rd tall with a big presence as well as the class of Billings and Sinclair not only offering class forward 50 entries but also being goal threats too. Then of course Lonie being a menace and sitting at Paddy's feet all day.

Exciting times ahead.

Carlton never cease to amaze with how many ways they can try to cheat the salary cap.

Yeah, he's a high kick like Gram used to be but he's pretty accurate. I think it was the second game vs the Dogs where he had a few good ones on the member's wing that night. From what I saw in the VFL I would say he's a good to solid. Not elite granted.

Just like a handicapper at the races, gotta keep slowing down the leader to let the pack catch up and have a competition. Even simpler than above, the GF winner loses their first round draft. After the second GF win it would make a three-peet pretty hard.
Maybe, but I'm not sure the Hawks first choice in either of the last two drafts got a medal today.
Frawley and Lake did.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think disposal is one of his major weakness'.

Ling just said in the GF commentary, that the Hawks have defied the controls of the draft and other equalisation methods to win these three in a row.
What he conveniently ignores, is the benefit that Free Agency has been for them in landing Frawley and Lake.
Trading has brought them McEvoy, Burgoyne and the like once they got in the powerful position. Hopefully when we're back up there, we can be as canny. Our plan is following their blueprint.
One idea that's been floated is excluding the top 4-6 teams from being able to receive FAs. I think it may have some merit, especially if they land another big fish this coming off season.

What he also failed to mention is the compromised drafts. Put someone
Like OMeara and Bennell in west coast and you may get a different result. Hawks lucky they were good when a stack of young talent went to two clubs.

Let's be honest - not sold yet on Membrey and McCartin just yet. Lonie plays the small forward role perfectly and Sinclair's goal return this season suggests he is perfectly suited to rotating between mid/fwd. Bruce is obvious and Billings is class. Id say we've locked in 4 of the 6 spots thus far.

Ok, so I am going to add to the Carlisle rumor mill. I watched the GF with a mate of mine today and the topic of Carlisle came up. He said "he's going to the saints". I asked how do you know this. He said that his mate knows Carlisle's sister and was at their mums place. Jake was there and wouldn't say anything but inside his sports bag he could see a booklet with 'becoming a saint' in it.

That's good info, but I'm not sure it's particularly conclusive. It sounds like that could essentially just be marketing stuff we give to potential recruits. He might have just thrown it in the trash for all we know.

Still an interesting bit of info. I'd love to see what's in that booklet.

Doesn't exactly sound credible.
