there is no chance carlton will take him there. they dropped out when the contract got too high.

shit look at tippett. remember when he went into the PSD and GWS threatened to take him with all their cap room. never happened, because clubs just dont take players that dont want to go there

Everyone knows this, even Dodoro knows, except some of the posters here who can't face reality.

We are very keen on one of the boys to sign an international rookie contract with us. Lots of competition but watch this space.
Did we have interest in Conor McKenna last year? I remember watching footage of his game in Europe and being impressed, really nice player, if any of the current Irishmen are as good as him I'd love to sign them.
im wary on a lot of their ages
Very good point, some even express that concern about Thon Maker, which is fair enough.

what type of players are the two irish kids?

Nice to see Richo going back to school to prepare himself for our finals push .....

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...son-heads-back-to-school-20151010-gk5wvy.html

The Saints finished 14th this season, with six wins – two more than last year. But with former key-position Bomber Jake Carlisle to come aboard once a trade is consummated, and other deals being considered, the Saints will hope to be in the finals mix next season.

.... that might be taking things a bit far though.

consummated? Sounds like dodo is gonna get bent over a barrel..

Simple trade hypothetical;

Melbourne gets Ray/Lee and Melksham
St Kilda gets Carlisle
Essendon gets pick 24, 25 and another Pick from us/Ross.

I tend to not do the fairest of trades, but it shows what is possible if we involve Melbourne/Melksham in our trade too, just an option seemingly not explored as yet.

Essendon desperate with their playing out of the trade in the media. Pathetic really. I like that we aren't saying anything...or doing any grandstanding. Comparing Ryder and Carlisle...ridiculous. Sounds like Dodo is walking the plank in regards to his job....thus the desperation.

Lots to happen I'm sure.

there is no cap space. they cannot compete with us, hence why they dropped out.

we can use the extra 5%...making it 10% in total. they dont have that.

we can use the veterans list (roughly 700+k). they dont have that.

thats roughly ~1.7m right there. thats before you look at front loading etc and back loading etc.

they're not even in the ball park
Carlton will have plenty of cap space. Judd, Henderson, Yarran leaving would free up $1.5mil easily

Any ITK's able to give us an idea of how far into negotiations we are for JC? Would we hope for it to resolve this week, or will it drag into next week? Would be nice to put it to bed early

All great if we are dealing in cardboard cutouts.....we are dealing in guys that have given us fabulous service. Some like Ray for many years the other two just starting.
We have invested lots of time & money in their careers & some of these trade suggestions treat them like steak knives. I'm all for trading in fact thought the trading of Dal Santo & McEvoy especially was a master stroke & treated him with the utmost respect. We have invested the past 2 years getting the culture right, lets not stuff it up now......

Baines - So Denudoro why should we trade you pick 5 for Carlisle??

Denudoro - Ahhh ...... It’s the constitution, it's Mabo, it's justice, it's law, it's the vibe and ....... no that's it ....... It's just the vibe ....... I rest my case

its still nothing on what we could muster up

you also have to remember many of their deals would have been back ended given they were in the window. add to it who they want to bring in.

if they were keen on carlisle they would have matched the offer

Trade 1:
Nathan Freeman to StK
James Aish to Coll
Ahmed Saad, Coll 2nd and StK 3rd to Bris

Trade 2:
Pick 5 to Essendon
Farren Ray and Jake Melksham to Melbourne
Jake Carlisle, Ess 2nd and Mel 2nd to StK

Trade 3:
StK 2nd, Mel 2nd and Ess 2nd to GWS
For
Pick 7 and 2016 2nd to StK

The enigma has been solved.

Edit:
On second thoughts Essendon are over paying here. Replace their 2nd with a third. If needed we could also trade GWS's 2016 2nd for Essendons 2016 3rd

Why would GWS do that? It's pretty much points neutral/possible negative and they value high picks a lot more than low ones. At least with 7 there's a chance they might get bids after it and get to use it in the draft.

Why would you even consider giving up pick 5? Pick 5 is overs for him, seems like some supporters getting sucked in to the Essendon crap...

It's a significant point increase for GWS is 2015, take into account the downgrade next year and it evens out a little bit.

Edit: I've just had a look at my last post and I see where you're coming from, I meant to add our 2016 3rd for GWS 2nd.

We get the high end pick and they get a huge point increase, they upgrade our pick next year for our generosity :)

I think we should make a reasonable offer say 5th rounder . Then when Essendope knock it back we go straight to PSD .
We owe the entire AFL community a chance to point and laugh at Essendope like we have .
Share the joy ! :D

Need them to sign Treloar on massive bucks which would effectively make them PSD impotent.

I don't care what Essendon get, I only care that we improve our list. If we give up 5 and Ray for Carlisle and two 2nds and then trade the three 2nds for pick 7 it would end up being Carlisle and 7 for 5, 24 and Ray.

If there are any issues from the above scenario they wouldn't be coming from St Kildas end. Im sure opposition supporters would be laughing at how bias it is for us.

They don't need that many points this year to get their academy kids and they have a shitload of picks coming in without any points swap trades. Plus, they apparently will need even more points next year as they have more highly rated academy kids coming though.

IMO there's more chance of them taking a points deal at a loss if it upgrades their pick above where the likely bids will come from. Say, they expect a bid at 4: then they could look to trade excess points for pick 3. That way they get to use pick 3 on top of their academy players.

All good and well to have those sorts of values but consider this...

We have offerred Ray one year and he will be happy to walk to another club should they offer him two.

Tom Lee is seeking a trade elsewhere because he sees further opportunity elsewhere - especially next year which is his final year of his contract.

Seb Ross, yes, we have put a lot of work into him, yes, he might be ready to become a very good regular AFL player. But if he was at all interested in joining his cousin at Essendon he would be one who could move without unsettling the playing group.

After all, these trades or players are being thrown up to allow us to keep pick 5, which has more chance than not to become an elite player for us for the next 15 years.

AFL is a ruthless sport, these players get paid very well but we are trying to build the best list possible. Reality is they will be thanked for their service, wished well and we will look forward to building the best possible list.

If one was going to be concerned about player welfare, what must the poor kids who we've been investing time and money into be thinking if they are replaced by one of the guys we are bringing in. For example, what about Nath Wright, he must be concerned about his midfield time now that we've gotten Freeman. Or Tom Lee now we have gotten Carlisle.

I know that's going to the extreme but it's not like we are kicking these guys out on to the street against their will.

I'd just like two queries answered ..
Will the Carlisle deal definitely get done .. ?
Will we retain Pick 5 ... ?
