And Collingwood's song says the premiership is a cakewalk.

Collingwood's song derived from Dolly Grey, it was a war dance in the Boer War. The cakewalk meaning on that song was a war dance from North America and not the modern meaning that it's easy.

Lethal was around when Vietnam was happening - same thing.

Can't fault your logic. It IS convenient because we train next door and most of our matches ar scheduled for there. Not sure what you are driving at.

All we hear from your president and a multitude of your supporters is that northern state teams are riding on the coat tails of concessions which provide an unfair advantage.

When in reality this is a smoke screen as the pies derive substantial benefit from the unevenness of the competition, for example this benefit is evident in the lack of interstate travel and playing a substantial number of games at the MCG.

A powerful Collingwood lines the pockets of the VFL AFL.

Duh. I always do the funky cakewalk when I'm tearing up the D floor in the club.

"Oh the premiership is an old-fashioned dance that derived from American slave plantations for Good Old Collingwood".

Why does your team song reference an American dance that makes no sense.

Surely that's restraint of the club song?

It was penned by a Collingwood player who went to the Boer War and heard the song Dolly Grey by soldiers who were marching to that song.

Ok you've just given us context for something that makes no sense

Does Aish want to engage in American slave dances? Is that why he left us

Yes, and our song is based on the tune of La Marseillaise, but when it says "we'll answer to the call" we aren't talking about going back to the 1790s to help France fight a war against Austria.

Yeah, no "war" dance there, buddy.
The cakewalk is as descibed, a graceful strutting dance, where the prize was a cake. That is and has always been the origin/meaning, to waltz in and win (easily).
That is exactly the context intended by the author, because Collingwood had won 3 premierships on the trot at the time.

You should read up on your own club's history.

I love that he tried to give us a history lesson but couldn't stomach the real story behind the dance so tried to "masculine it up" a bit.

Aish Thread Daily Poll.

Which Collingwood poster had their own arse handed to them the hardest today on this board?

A) Seedsfan in "Restraint of Trade"
B) Shraderbrau in "Restraint of Trade 2 - The Restraintening"
C) Mike39 in "The premiership is an old fashioned American slave plantation dance..."

And the First Daily Patrick Karnezis Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Crapulence (i.e the Karny) goes to...
