What has to happen for Hurley to play a game this year? Does he have to be elevated off a rookie list?
Jedi will be mad at me but I still think Weller a bit overrated.![]()

If he's been playing Gaelic football then surely his main hurdle would be getting his head around the mechanics of the oval ball. The training reports make it sound like he's got the kicking figured out. If they play him forward in the WAFL and he starts kicking a couple of goals a game, then I think they'll look at him.He needs to be elevated but I can't see it happening for at least another 1-2 years. Granted, I've never seen him play but from what I have seen at training his positioning and reading the flight of the ball need a lot of work.
He is already one of the better kicks on the list over 192cm. The mechanics is his kicking action are superb. Id agree when he trains as a forward he still has some work to do in terms of timing on the lead and learning how to play the game. However, watching him train as a defender with the role that he simply stays on his man and then sprints off to receive the ball when we gain possession, while in that role I think he looks fantastic. In my opinion the Irish players who have made it all struggled with the shape of the ball to begin with, but once they got that their games came on in leaps and bounds very, very quickly. To me Hurley is much closer to making his debut that most on here are saying. On Friday he looked significantly more advanced manning Pav, then a player a year or two off making his debut that is for sure.If he's been playing Gaelic football then surely his main hurdle would be getting his head around the mechanics of the oval ball. Fitness wise, so being able to run out a game, do you think he's more likely to do so than Mora?He is already one of the better kicks on the list over 192cm. Im pretty sure Hanley made a pretty quick transition too. All I can say is that IMO Hurley looks to be massively improved compared to a year ago. 'Massively improved' is a gigantic understatement. I would be stunned if he didn't play for Feo before too long. In the last three training sessions he has played on a player as quick as Langdon. as tall as Tabs and as strong as Pav and dominated in the role of shutdown defender. Ill put my name to the view that he is significantly more advanced than some training watchers are giving him credit for. Ill also come on here and say that I was wrong if he doesn't debut and play some games for the club before being delisted.Fitness wise, so being able to run out a game, do you think he's more likely to do so than Mora?
Touhy at Carlton only really played a year in the VFL before being elevated and dominating. It would be great if Hurley presented the same. I'd thought from the training reports that Hurley was being groomed for a forward position but back is obviously fine too as it will mean we could swing him and A Pearce forward.
Is he flying under the radar with the coaches, or does it look like they're seeing how good he is?Im pretty sure Hanley made a pretty quick transition too. BTW in the training Ive watched he seems to win significantly more of the one on ones than he loses. That is not the case with Smith or Silvagni.
Hehehe the dark side force are too strong to resist.I used to like you![]()

Is hard to seperate between Hurley and Mora both offer different style of play. But Mora should get the vacant spot if needed due to his injury, it is now or never. He will be a bit sore like m.barlow come back, but once he get through that barrier he will be fine. As for Hurley consistent playing with the thunder will benefit him more with the likes of Collins ,blakely ,grey therefore maybe mid season elevate will be much better for him.Fitness wise, so being able to run out a game, do you think he's more likely to do so than Mora?

I just remember the last time Mora came back, he struggled to run out two quarters. He's still building on his fitness base and with the no sub rule this year, he will need to be able to run out games. It'll be interesting to see what happens. If Hurley continues to improve, then Ross might want to see how they both run out a game in the WAFL (or even a preseason game) and make a decision from there. Is hard to seperate between Hurley and Mora both offer different style of play. For starters Bennell will come in plus whoever replaces Macpharlin in the backline. That is already fairly significant. This is only my point of view, there won't be much changes in our best 22 in the first half of the season, apart from a few game here and there for ( Langdon , blakely , grey ,Weller and Collins - depend on a.Pearce fitness). In addition focus will be on freo and thunder alliance (third year) hence more player balance in peel side as compare to last two year which most in this board mention too many tall are playing.
Not with the coaches. I think most of them would be surprised at his development though. His ability to keep with Pav in the air (after Pav was dominating the session) on Friday was really telling. His speed matched up on Langdon in a drill on Wednesday also made me stop and think 'Geez we have something awesome developing here". He has only been training with the main group for a little while and I don't want to get ahead of myself but I think we something genuinely special developing in Hurley. Is he flying under the radar with the coaches, or does it look like they're seeing how good he is?

Offer a 15yr contract extension plus:Could be the pav replacement.
great saying there scon"if he's not fishing he's mending nets"I think it's how you retain and develop yoof that's the issue meima ,not how high their raw talent rating is.
Intelligent and hard nosed development is key.
We've improved at this markedly over the journey, and for all the hackneyed characterisation of RTB as some blind pragmatist I believe if he's not fishing he's mending his nets.![]()
