What were posters thoughts on Blair and Macaffer last night?

Out of the two, I really think Blair might still be in our best 22? Thoughts?

Also what about Aish on the backline, think he can play a similar role to Abernathy in his best days playing for North?

I thought they were both really good.

Never seen Abernathy play so not sure how to Compare

Played for North in 1982 and then came to us in for 3 seasons in 1984. Beautiful to watch.

Just had another thought bubble, do you think he could become another Heath Shaw type of player?

Cant see much love on here for Varcoe. Thought he picked up from where he left off last year, a hard runner and very solid contributor who knows how to lay a mean tackle. I don't recall which poster said this last year, but when watching on TV and Varcoe streaks into view on the screen, something good nearly always comes of it.:D

The flogs in commentary going on about Danger really must have hurt them inside when Varcoe buried him into the ground with that tackle lol.

Maybe but he does not have the Dash like Heater.

I was more thinking Aish as a Wingman who get's the ball from a Backline who then Delivers it to our Forward Line as we need Class ball use to our Forwards that we missed last few years

IMO you don't make it in professional sport if you treat it is a gap year or $ (e.g Fevola) you make it because you have drive (e.g Bucks)

If it was just about $ and having fun he should have stayed in the U.S and went to Mexico for his holidays.
A gap year as in do what you want out of the ordinary but go hard at it. Not necessarily partying around.

Re: Blair
You would imagine he would be in the starting 22 for Rnd 1

One of my biggest criticisms about Blair is he doesn't seem to understand his limitations. Quite often he tries to do too much and ends up getting caught or disposing the ball ineffectively. Someone needs to tap him on the shoulder and remind him that he is no Daics or Ablett.

An in form Blair is currently still best 22 and he has started the pre-season well.

Can't believe how much Varcoe has changed. So hard and always running for a tackle. Love him!

doesnt kick as good/long as Abernathy. might not be as quick either. still I like Aish and hope he finds his feet as the year unwinds.
I thought that some of his passes were 'centimetre perfect'.
Not sure but I do see something in him, think we have a good one here though.

I see no reason as to why we can't play Moore, Cloke, Cox and 2 ruckmen. Yea our forward pressure might not be as potent, but our attacking would be several times better. Our ruckman could rest on the bench or go behind the ball if needed. You just got to love the way Cox jumps at the ball, and there's no way you could leave him out. Honestly, at the end of this year if Cox or Gaults ruck improved, we would have no need for one of Grundy/witts.
I just love the pressure it's putting on our forward line because right now the only KPF guaranteed a game is Moore. We no longer need to play Cloke even if he's playing horrible. Competition is good.

Its a stretch to imagine them all in the same side.

Pun intended.

Might have been me, because it's true. He has Rioli- like reflexes and class

You guys have something good brewing.
I'm appalled by most of my supporters on the Cats board. They give you guys no credit and it was the same shit last year when you smashed us late in the year.
Buckley may get criticized but he at least backs in the younger brigade for the long haul. There is no quitting half way in and replacing them with mature aged players from other clubs. You have young ruck stocks, young key defenders and could also have a potential star forward in Darcy Moore.

All the best for the upcoming season.
Thank you.

Hes always been like that. Injury reduced his effectiveness in his last year or two at the Cats.
Except his last 2 months; I was mighty peeved when they "let him go" at that stage of his career when he had finally gotten over all injuries and was our best v Hawks. For Mitch Clark!!
Watching Pies with even more interest these days- have always liked C'wood since the John Greening days.
FWIW, think your recruiting has been top notch and your team has great upside.
Finals are always better when Collingwood is involved.

Witts was really good in that 3rd Qtr at the Center Bounces. In a way Witts is a Tad like Cameron Wood who also was a Tap Ruckman.

Depends on what you call a Ruckman

The one who gets the most hitouts to advantage. The Moore/Cox/Gault conundrum that is developing may put massive pressure on Witts and Grundy. Suddenly it might boil down to not who is the better all round player but who is the most effective at their core responsibility....ruckwork. So many exciting combinations and permutations to play out this year. Especially if White pulls his finger out and Howe shows some fitness and form

I pretty much said the same thing when we recruited him. We were picking up a fit Varcoe at an injured Varcoe price. And he effectively was a straight replacement for Lumumba. Bargain!!

Still plenty of use-by time too.
