Kochie on Gameday talking about their recruiting department when asked about Dixon

"they just have this knack for putting pieces together"
**** he is painful to watch. He brought up playing Impey up forward as if that move was revolutionary, if Ken was a decent coach he would have made it earlier.

Port are copping shit because they've been shit Kochie, a win over a shit Richmond doesn't change that. They are just lucky they have a soft draw coming up.

Watching Williamstown v Casey at Williamstown .......for those who know Melbourne the Williamstown ground is almost on the beach ......the wind is blowing a gale and a ship is sinking in the high seas in the TV background (tongue in cheek):p ......what conditions to play any football match, always hated strong winds

He is a ****head, the new Sudanese Swans player is now the face of Australia because he represents the 28% of people who were born overseas. That makes him a minority you idiot, not representative.

What hapens when the umpire throws the ball up ....and the wind blows the ball outside the accepted ruck area :p

They might lose a couple of the lighter players today

I don't know how any of you guys are watching GameDay with Kochie on it. If they lost it would have been worth viewing but cringeworthy with their win.

Love Williamstown. If I ever lived in Melbs I'd follow Willy

Firstly Smart played that night. Secondly, Ben Hart was a 16yo on the list, Shaun Rehn, David Pittman, Mark Bickley, Tony Modra, Matthew Robran and Mark Ricciuoto were all part of our start up concessions, which whilst not as good as West Coast's were probably better than Port's.

Our concessions were worse than West Coast's because the VFL clubs saw how successful the Eagles were in the early days and weren't going to make that same mistake again.

As for better than Port's, it's apples and oranges and nowhere near as bad as it's sometimes painted. We had access to a deeper SANFL talent pool, although we were only able to sign up a limited number of drafted SANFL players - just to put that whole "you had the whole SANFL to pick from" myth to bed. For example, we lost Richard Champion, who missed the list because D Jarman was on it. Once Fud defected to Hawthorn, by then Champion had been picked up by the Bears. We were allowed three expats only - at that time of year, the only three we could get were McGuinness, Lindner and Danny Hughes.

We also had a second bite at players in Year 2, we could grab up to eight kids, no-one from outside SA and we were shut of the draft.

While we had access to deeper talent, Port had time. We put a squad together over several months and the VFL moved quickly to sign up its SA stars which locked them up until 1994 in most cases. Some players had already gone to Victoria via contract. Port had more than a year - which is how they were able to pay the likes of Tredrea, Burgoyne, Wilson, Lade and James to stay out of the draft. They got fined $50k for it.

So better than Port's? Possibly. But this idea we had carte blanche to put together a state team while Port fought hard to cobble together a band of brave young soldiers is revisionist bollocks.

Watching the replay of the Port game.

One of the lowest intensity games of the year. Hardwick is a dead man walking.

Amazing that the media "experts" had these two teams (and Freo) in contention for the top 4 and us languishing in the bottom half of the ladder.

That's why there's no point melting about the fixture when it first gets released.

We're an expansion club.

How'd you reckon Saints and Bulldogs fans thought about us taking just 8 years to do something they have never achieved in 100 years in the comp, win a 2nd flag. Not to mention West Coast's 3, and Brisbane's 3.

its a little different in that gws and gold coast were the afl deliberately trying to push the afl into non football areas. all other teams bar sydney and brisbane possibly were demanding they have teams in the AFL. there was no such demand for gws or goldcoast, that was a marketing decision.

The awesome concession of rod jameson, the only premiership player from the initial team.

Actually our concessions continued over the first few years and not only did we have a number of premiership players that we recruited via our entry conditions we also on traded players that we had recruited via concession picks for players who went on to play in our 1997 premiership side.

I might have missed some, but from our 1997 premiership side the following players were either concessional recruits or obtained via trading concessional recruits

Ben Hart (concession)
Nigel Smart (concession)
Shaun Rehn (concession)
David Pittman (concession)
Mark Bickley (concession)
Rod Jameson (concession)
Andrew Mcleod (Chris Groom trade)
Darren Jarman (Shaun Wellman trade)
Peter Caven (Paul Rouvray trade)
Brett James (Johnathon Ross trade)
Clay Sampson (Scott Hodges trade)
Aaron Keating (Scott Hodges trade)

Also 2 players who missed the 1997 Grand Final (Roo and Modra) were also concession selections as well.

Our initial picks definitely provided us with the foundation for our premierships.

Nah ....he has a genuinely Shyte side .......his bottom 6 players are woeful .....
Costagna was a woeful U18 player .....not an AFL standard player

Menadue .....same, purely outside players rarely make it at AFL level

Chaplin ......:p was recruited in the era where teams wanted qtr backs with elite kicks .....can't beat an opponent one on one
Disagree on Menadue, rekon he will make it in the AFL

I agree, the decision was solely made to lift the value of the TV rights and was the AFL pushing the agenda to do it.

So while Tasmania would have been a far better choice, the ratings for Tasmainia aren't included in the national ratings so they would have added nothing to the value of the TV rights.

Browsing the Port review thread of the Richmond game is a laugh. Apparently when you beat a terrible side that literally gifted you goals through shocking disposal in the forward half, your season is "back on track"

It's back on track because they are playing scrubbers

Their W/L isn't that bad, but it's round 6 and some teams have played more better teams and some teams have played teams that are shit. Won't have a real idea on where teams sit until round 12-14ish

But it's also the complete lack of effort in Port's losses that would be concerning.....and making them a laughing stock

That reputation got them 3 flags in a row and only a fool would write them off.... their record right now is better than it was at the same time last year. They also lost a final and still won the flag.... you can't buy that sort of experience

But also agree that Sydney are the team to beat

Sydney, Roos, Hawks all should be top 4.

WC, Adel, Dogs and GWS fighting it for the 4th spot in the top 4 IMO
You've missed Geelong. Their draw is that easy that they could finish minor premiers whilst being the 5th best side

I've got them finishing higher than Hawks in minor round , who knows what will happen in finals though

All eyes on Adelaide United today as they aim to end a major sporting drought for Soccer in this city. Not since the early 90s have we won a roundball GF (discounting the cup last year).

It's been 12 years since an SA footballing side won a GF, and most of us didn't care about that game. The Redbacks won an ODD title 4 years ago after so much rubbish and its been 14 years since I last saw a side of mine win a GF (Sturt 02).

Today must be the day. 50K fans expected.

UNITED WE STAND

COYR

Richmond got a lot more of the ball and won more clearances and contested possessions. They lost the inside 50s, shots at goal, and the game through terrible disposal efficiency (70% to 73%), fumbled marks, fumbled ground balls, and a lack of tackling pressure.

When you have key outside players like Houli, B. Ellis and Deledio running at sub 70% DE (Ellis and Deledio were below 60%!) while racking up 20-30 disposals, and a captain and key inside ball winner that managed just 19 disposals at 47% DE, literally any team will beat you.

Port's achievement is nothing remarkable at all. Essendon and Carlton would have beaten Richmond last night.

Great to see Geelong's Menzel playing good regular footy :thumbsu: ......BTW the advert for this weeks edition of Inside Footy has Daniel Menzel saying the "tough Love" Adelaide is giving brother Troy, will be the making of him as a player
Is Troy a chance to line up against Geelong? Dan and Troy are yet to play against each other in the AFL. It'd be great to change that in a fortnight's time.
