I'm coming to wherever you live. All I get around my house are Pidgey's and Rattata's.
Stupid outer suburbs.

All those pokemon are in the Adelaide metro area.

Where I live is Pidgey, Rattata, Geodude, Duduo, Machop, Rhyhorn, Zubat as well. But I have come across a Rhydon at the church 3 buildings down and a Machoke in my lounge room (JUST in range of the street behind mine on the other side of the block)

Though, I need to walk into town more often.

In the current O-Bahn extension tunnel being drilled I've found a plethora of Omanyte and one Kabuto* (don't know if intentional by the creators or a bloody good coincidence)

*Well, the Silhouette, didn't actually find the bastard

Yep, just can't have more than 1 on each gym.

I'm still having trouble tracking down Pokemon that are apparently nearby. There's got to be a range in kilometres how far away they are.

Circled around a whole suburb last night looking for that electabuzz '3 feet' away with no luck.

Given up looking for anything that they say is nearby I just keep going straight.

Question: does powering up Pokemon boost that semi ring?

So for example:

This Growlithe is 1/3 of the way around the semi ring, if I power it up enough can I get it to max the semi ring or do I have to look for a Growlithe that already has a max semi ring?

I think ideally you'll want to save your candies for powering up a Growlithe that is already strong, or better yet saving the candies to evolve it into an Arcanine. But yes, powering it up will boost the semi ring but you're better off just holding off on it for now and trying to catch yourself a strong Growlithe since that one is a bit weak.

Yes it does, that ring shows its CP level, but it's a waste on something that low. Wait until you catch one at least 3/4 to 4/5 full before spending any candies on it.

Noob question but what do you have to do to get your pokemon inside a gym controlled by your team (if there are no free spaces)?

You'll need to keep training it to level it up so that a free space opens up. I think a gym gets a free slot with every level, so a level 6 gym has 6 slots.

I used the insence when i had a few 'nearby' and none of the appeared

I just walk where im going with the app open and whatever shows up I catch (starting to think on passing on zubats - too many wasted pokeballs)

I don't care if a Kabuto is 3 steps away, or a jigglypuff 1 step away or a Staryu 1 step away (all happened since Sunday), im not wasting time going looking for it. I let them come to me.

Say you are looking for the Electabuzz in particular, you click on it in your nearby list so when it goes back to map view the little nearby tab on the bottom right should only show the Electabuzz silhouette & the 3 footprints. Start walking in different directions & once you are facing & moving in the correct direction that nearby tab should start periodically flashing, then the closer you get the number of footprints should decrease.
I was tracking a Kabutops today & got down to 1 footprint when I reached a public toilet block, then it suddenly disappeared. Felt like a trap to me lol

Went and stopped via 3 lured pokestops down the Geelong waterfront on my way home from work.

Caught 48 of the buggers in 40 mins.

Left judo and while sitting in my car a Kadabra turned up...had 3 balls left and the campaigner escaped all of them .

So I headed off to the nearest poke stop and got a few more balls and came across 3 x meowith and weird blue seashell and a Abra and caught them all

Still fuming over the missed Kadabra

But it does that, it flashes green. But doesn't seem to get any closer lol.

Finally got a Bulbasaur after i'd seen so many silhouettes but could never actually find one. And he's the baddest sum'bitch in the WWF.

He's serving notice to all the 151 Pokemon, he doesn't give a damn what they are, they're all on the list. And that's Stone Cold Steve Bulba's list, and he's fixin' to start running through all of them.

I just got home from Deakin Waterfront. It was pretty good there.
