Here, you're posting angry. ;)

Everyone gets what you're saying, just your response and refusal to discuss with Pope was pretty cranky and irrational.

You're right, that if we want an established assistant, doing great things in Melbourne, it'll be hard to lure them away. But maybe consider that there are others who could provide similar value, and aren't employed at a Melbourne club. Maybe there are some potentially very good assistants out there, that your premise doesn't apply to.

Your original post wasn't an issue, it was your reaction to others that was unfair, and doing exactly what you accused others of; not listening.:hearts:

No actually. I was spot on. You are full of shit like usual.

Stevie J wants to coach.......and Nick Maxwell still interests me. These are a couple of names I'd rather see as assist. coaches.

Hardnut ex players (or nearly) who want to coach and have to start somewhere. There must be others too.

Sick of seeing the same old names.

The truth is with all the rhetoric that has come from Swann and Matthews they cant move on the coach or we look like the basket case everybody suspects we are. I dont see how we could do anything before the end of the year and they seem committed to moving forward with Leppa, so much so they have painted themselves into a corner and it must happen (leppa sees out year).

Have no problem with Leppa coaching us until the end of his contract, but we must get our coaching team better placed. Black stays though, get rid of the rest.

On what grounds does Black stay (without consideration and when you're overhauling the coaches)?

Exactly. Has to be a bit more informed than liking a past player. For all we know he could be the worst coach we have.

On the grounds that once you go Black, you never go back?

Yep, if we're ridgey didge, everyone is under scrutiny.

For what it's worth, every time I listen to Justin Leppitsch I'm impressed with him. There's no BS. He tells it how it is. Chris Scott would probably welcome him down at Geelong.

I like him too and it feels to me like he can probably coach. It might turn out to be a time, place, circumstance thing, it's impossible to tell from the outside really. I agree that he could fit nicely with Chris Scott, not so much Brad perhaps. It might be hard to be an ex-senior assistant to a former team mate though. Lappin is there too. Living in Geelong would suck balls and add further salt to the wound.

It would definitely suck living in Geelong. I wasn't really suggesting that he head to Geelong. Brisbane should leave him as coach and just rebuild properly. Get good, tough, younger players. Look at Geelong. It let Varcoe and Christensen go, and at the time I thought that was a bit puzzling. But in the end they got harder players such as Caddy and now Dangerfield. Would the Scott brothers have enjoyed playing with the likes of Varcoe and Christensen? Don't think so. To me, the current Brisbane side is too soft!

They have been in their corner since Harvey left...the coaching support staff is hopeless, so if Leppa goes who replaces him?

http://www.lions.com.au/news/2016-06-14/our-best-ruck-set-up

The Brisbane Lions again opted to share ruck duties on the weekend with either Trent West or Stefan Martin moving up forward as a target when not rucking.

In recent weeks there has been plenty of comment on what the team’s best ruck set-up is and if big Stef is better as a lone ruckman, as he was when he produced his stellar run of form in recent seasons.

“A question was asked of us: why are we playing two ruckman?,” Assistant Coach Danny Daly told the Vero Coaches Wrap.

“In rounds 4-8 we were ranked 18th in terms of clearances, -36 in centre bounces and in all stoppages -60 over the four week period.

“What we found was that Stef had a very, very high work rate. He was carrying everything on his shoulders for the first 8 weeks, while still recovering from his concussion suffered against the Gold Coast, so we thought it was a good opportunity to bring in another ruckman.”

Geelong premiership ruckman Trent West was recalled for the first time in 2016 in Round 9.

“Westy’s come in and he’s actually made a big difference for us around stoppages. We’ve moved up the last four weeks to 10th in terms of our contested ball and our clearances numbers so it’s certainly had an effect.

“We absolutely understand that Stef has probably struggled a little bit down forward but it’s more about getting our numbers around the source and giving us an opportunity to get the ball inside 50,” Daly said.

“Between weeks 9-12 the Lions were ranked equal 9th and 8th in clearances.

“It’s an area we’ll look at this week whether we do play with two ruckman or do we go back to one ruckman and bring another forward in.”

Well exactly, a point a lot of people are overlooking. There is nobody in the wings.

I have mixed feelings about the media report that we’re looking for a senior assistant to share the load with Leppitsch in 2017. It’s worth doing no matter who is coaching us next year, but it suggests the club believes its staffing issues can be addressed through incremental changes, which seems unlikely. Bringing in one person in a support role won’t change the reported cultural issues within the group.

As others have said, what’s most important is that we bring in multiple people and expand the pool of experience in our coaching group. We have a complicated playing group and a lot of limitations to get over. We need a wide range of options to get the most out of the playing list.

We might be anticipating possible changes at other clubs and who shakes out from that. Obviously Richmond and Collingwood have senior coaches under pressure, but also might be thinking about moving on some of the other senior footballing staff. Even the Dockers might be pondering changing some of the staff around Lyon.

So while we might find it difficult to bring in a really well-credentialed senior assistant coming out of a successful environment right now, which is obviously ideal, perhaps there might be an opportunity to get two or three good staff who could be successful at a different club.

Brendon Lade, Ross Smith, Robert Harvey, Ben Hart, Scott Burns, Michael Prior and (highly unlikely, but you never know) Peter Sumich would all at the very least bring a different perspective for us, and hopefully take some of the pressure off Leppitsch or his replacement. Most of these guys would have no trouble finding work closer to home, but if we’re putting the feelers out now we’re giving ourselves the best possible chance.

Tim Watson on SEN this morning proposing an idea that Leigh Matthews coach us next year in a similar type of setup as Melbourne where he hands it over in 2-3 years.

I'll give a contrary opinion and say I think it would be a good idea.

Lots of people said Bennett was passed it, he went back to the Broncos and has done really well.

That isn't a reason just an example.

I agree he does seem slightly out of touch in his commentary and he admitted he hasn't even watched all of our games this year but still... Get some good assistants in as well.

It would either be a great success or a dismal failure.....
Don't think Leigh would leave the media anyway. ..... would have to be a huge contract to get him to work that hard again.

One thing I'd like is that it would cut out any BS power control the players have.
I don't think players would rock the boat with LM in the drivers seat. It would be like a stupid junior exec telling Steve Jobs what an MP3 player should be.

Leigh is never going to happen, he seems very content. why would he bother putting himself through the stress again, nothing to prove, already a 4 time premiership coach.

Tim Watson must be going to the Damien Barrett school of journalistic integrity.

The comparison doesn't work because Bennett was still coaching while Matthews hasn't been coaching for 10 years. Matthews will always be a legend at our club but that doesn't mean he can solve every problem we have.
