RICHMOND’S star signing Dion Prestia will be fit to complete a full pre-season at Punt Road as the Tigers prepare for the return of Chris Yarran.

The Tigers pre-season will start on Monday for their first-to-fourth-year players with Yarran committed to returning early after injury and mental health injuries.

Prestia, out since Round 16 following knee surgery, should quickly progress from the rehab group into full training.

He battled for most of the season with knee pain as the Gold Coast’s injury crisis worsened, but eventually succumbed to the problem.

That cartilage issue kept him out for the rest of the year, but Richmond says he is in good shape.

New football boss Neil Balme said Prestia would quickly progress once the club’s senior players returned to training.

“He will still be in the rehab group to start with, but it will only take him a little while to get out of it. It was a little cartilage issue,’’ he said.

Richmond star Jack Riewoldt revealed on Friday he had needed a second bout of surgery on the little finger of his right hand after a titanium plate snapped.

“I had my right little finger fused and then unfortunately I snapped the (back of the) titanium plate three weeks in, and had to go back in on a Monday night and have it done again,” Riewoldt told RSN.

“It’s a thing that’s held me back and been the biggest pain in my bum over this break.

“To break it again after I’d fused it the first time wasn’t a great result, but it’s all smooth sailing now.”

Riewoldt has also had an ankle reconstruction after initially believing he needed only minor surgery, but will be back running next week.

He will be managed until Christmas but believes he can still complete a large chunk of the pre-season.

Yarran told the Sunday Herald Sun last week that while he is still overweight he believes he return to AFL football.

The former Carlton running defender has told the club he will return to training in an attempt to shed weight after several months of training away from Punt Road.

Richmond is hopeful rather than confident he can regain his training intensity and put together a full season of fitness work.

A payout is still a realistic prospect should Yarran fail to meet fitness requirements but if he can stay free of calf complaints he could find a way to make an improbable comeback to AFL football.

The Tigers have lost Ty Vickery to Hawthorn and Brett Deledio to GWS, bringing in Prestia, Geelong’s Josh Caddy and Sydney’s Toby Nankervis.

Just want to see prestia play a full season. If he does that. He justifys pick 6. Will make a big impact imo, on field performance and keen to see his leadership qualities.

Also what the **** is this?

Ralph is really no better than his muck rucking mates.

Dion coming on is very good news, I think the club will take a conservative approach & will reap the benefits next season. So will Dion not being the number one/two mid....

Meh, who the f*** would now. Our fitness/medical departments have runs on the board for turning probable into unlikely. The club also has a good track record of running blokes into the ground to try squeeze out one more win to keep the fans at bay. Then there are the lies, the one step back for two forward crap all focussed on deflecting the heat that needed to be put on the head honcho clusterf*** merchants.

When I see Prestia run out r1 I will believe it. Ditto for Yarran even returning, one tissue injury away from him dropping his bundle and ending his yet to commence career at RFC. Maybe things have changed with Balme and do coming on board but I ain't buying their spin anymore.

Full on #eco......

Looked like he'd been in a good paddock on his press day at the club.

Twf it's offseason but Mumma's pasta sauce is on point af
Mate, I think you've mistaken everyone with Conca today :drunk:.

I was surprised to find a positive article by Ralph, then discovered he tied it, tenuously, to Yarran in the first sentence. Always a campaigner, I suppose.

lol speaking of media scum... I saw this guy walking along the street that looked like your average 50 year old man. Seemed to be really engaged in this phone conversation he was having except his hands were full on shopping bags so I assumed he had a bluetooth headset.. to my surprise he was not on the phone but was going on a rant to himself about the media and fairfax scam and Ruppurt Murdoch and all these 'bloody journos' corrupting our minds

Yeah Jack had an ankle reconstruction as soon as the season finished, I'm pretty sure it was in the news.

He may not have a full pre-season but we all know Jack will be fine.

Also all clubs PR spin, so stop having hissy fits. The only reason we notice it more with Richmond is because we barrack for them.

Based on the feedback, sounds like I might be in the minority here but I'd rather read/hear from Jon Ralph over the majority of reporters going around today. Barrett, McFarlane, McClure, Darcy, Jay Clark, Adam White, Dunstall, Jono Brown all can't wait to lay the boots in to the Tigers to name a few.

Of non Richmond tied media, think Whately and King seem the most balanced IMO.

All I read on Yarran is that if he doesn't pull his finger out we may cut ties. Seems likely if he's 8-10kg overweight and struggling to lose it.

8-10kg overweight? Lol.
The latest report is 4kg over and he's confident it'll come off reasonably quickly. Not struggling.
That's the issue with journalists. One report came from the horses mouth and his personal trainer the other from a journalist.

I can't recall Whateley ever saying anything complimentary about the tigers. Even when we win 11 in a row there were only backhanded compliments.
I used to watch offsiders with Barry Cassidy, but Whateley i find is unwatchable. And so one-eyed Geelong, and therefore will never achieve greatness IMO

Which ironically was reported in the herald sun. Hope Chris' self assessment of his progress was in line with the clubs expectation when he returned to the club and they don't feel the need to flog him over the preseason like last year.
