Spoken like a supporter of a true expansion franchise. Excuse us if traditional Australian Rules Football Clubs like to embrace their long history. Stupid Burger King pleb.
Expansion franchise???? we are an original AFL team maybe in the vfl we were an expansion club but not the AFL. Get with the times peanut!!

Did current AFL sides Eagles, Dockers, Power, Crows, etc ever compete in the vfa??
No, nor did they compete in the SANFL (bar Port Adelaide) or the WAFL.

Here is the difference:

7 current AFL clubs competed in the VFA pre-1897. (9 if you want to include Sydney as South Melbourne and Brisbane Lions as Fitzroy.)

1 current AFL club competed in the SANFL.

0 current AFL clubs competed in the WAFL.

Futhermore:

All of the 8 VFL foundation teams had previously participated in the VFA. By 1908, all 10 VFL clubs had participated in the VFA pre-1897. By 1925, 11 of 12 VFL clubs had. (Guess who hadn't... :D)

This shows that while the VFL was not a direct continuation of the VFA, there was very little difference. The AFL still has very strong links back to the VFA, and in repetitive dick-measuring conversations, we can certainly claim our VFA flags have more relevance than any SANFL flags. :thumbsu:

You're on record as saying Guthrie will perform on par with Dangerfield next season so your opinion hardly counts.
He was leading our best and fairest 14 rounds into the season.

This is BigFooty, not BigAFL. :)
The Hawks melt hard when you mention how many flags we've won in our history. It's as though their sense of entitlement dissipates with one fell swoop.

The effort spent to legitimize VFA flags is telling of your desperation.

Doubt it very much....

It is only an effort because your minds are so dense that light bends around them.

Anyone with a functional brain can see the flags are legitimate, and don't need the reasoning explained to them.

Ray Comfort makes the same argument, that it's not his ideas that are wacky, it's everyone else who is wrong because their brains don't work.

Ok, cool. You should be grateful, I've stuck around attempting to cure your delusions. Or is it denial?

well my friend without expansion wot are you left with? The VFA which by all accounts your team was pretty good in....
without expansion there would be no NATIONAL competition!!!!!

So what you're saying is that a team not even founded when the VFL was created has surpassed the flag count of every single one of them - bar three. And one of those clubs isn't Geelong?

Err...no.

That's very clearly the opposite of what he's saying you absolute muppet.

Settle down, precious. What Hoooops said is all pretty convenient until you put up some facts.

See, the clubs in question quit the VFA to form their own competition because, they believed, as the stronger clubs in the VFA that they deserved a bigger slice of the pie. So when they quit, they automatically forgo any claim to retaining those premierships in a tally relating to the newly formed competition.

So by all means tell us how you won flags back in the 1870's but the fact remains it was your clubs decision, driven by money, that means they will never be counted amongst the VFL/AFL premierships.

No matter how hard you try. :)

Don't blame me. Blame your club.

How many times do I have to tell you? I've never said anything to disagree with any of that. Are you really this dense? Nowhere have I said that VFA flags should be counted amongst VFL/AFL premierships.

For those with comprehension issues... I can't make it much simpler...

Part 1

a) VFA flags were won. :thumbsu:

b) VFA flags were won by the Geelong Football Club. :thumbsu:

c) The Geelong Football Club won VFA flags. :thumbsu:

d) VFA flags contribute to the total number of flags won by the Geelong Football Club. :thumbsu:

Part 2

e) VFA flags were legitimately won. :thumbsu:

f) The VFA had a standard of competition equal or greater than that of the early VFL. :thumbsu:

Are we good? :rainbow:

It's only Hawks supporters trying hard to argue against something no one is saying, nor cares about except them.

It's sad how desperate they are to discredit the VFA flags. I don't know why they keep bringing them up when it's something we have a clear 7-0 lead in. :$
