Show me one example of quoting people claiming Bein is free.
Because in all likelihood, they won't.

Not to mention there's no guarantee the current partnership between Foxtel/beIN would still be in place should they win the rights. If they bid that much, beIN would want to be separate from Foxtel I would have thought.
Why would they bid big money to help strengthen a competitor?

If the situation was flipped:A free service requires no payment at all. You or someone is paying for an Optus service so it isn't free.
SBS telecasts of EPL are the only free way to watch PL.
If the situation was flipped:
You have an existing Foxtel contract that you are paying $60 a month for. Foxtel offers you a mobile phone plan that is normally worth $50/month in addition to that Foxtel contract for no extra cost. Is that mobile phone free or not?
That's quite a glass half empty way to look at it, not surprising though seeing as you seem to hate Optus for some reason. Getting something for no extra cost in addition to an existing product can also be considered free.Nope. Free is a pretty simple definition - it means no payment for any services at all.
Which will disappear if/when Foxtel gets the rights back, do you want the PL to be free or not?Which is what SBS provides currently with one EPL match per week.
So what part of the contract changed that no longer required extra payment to view the channels? There is no partnership between FOXTEL and beIN, it's a contractual agreement between a host and a provider, just like Fetch has, only Fetch signed theirs before the 3 channels were created.

You know perfectly well (and has been discussed on many occasions in this thread) that the only reason Optus gave SBS 1 game a week was to satisfy the need to have the coverage on a terrestrial television platform. Foxtel already satisfy that so there is no need for them to give SBS any rights. They never did it before why would they do it now?Who says it will disappear? Foxtel already broadcast one A League game per week on SBS. Could very well happen if they got PL rights back.
To me, the best result for football fans would be Bein because everything would be in one place, available on multiple broadcast platforms and available online for those who want to stream.

That was already happening before Foxtel lost the PL and only started because of the deal the FFA was involved with to try and improve grass roots football in Australia. Don't know about you but I can't see the English FA caring whether the PL is broadcast on Pay TV or FTA in Australia, they will just want the most money possible. They do it now with the A League so wouldn't be surprising if they did it with PL.

The optus deal yes, they never complained about Foxtel's coverage though so why would they change it if they got it back?PL clubs like LFC & Chelsea have already expressed concern about the limited exposure from the current Optus deal so that may well influence what bids the PL accepts.
FWIW the Chinese broadcast rights didn't go to the biggest bidder. It went to a FTA bidder for maximum exposure.

So something has happened since this?
http://advanced-television.com/2016/11/18/premier-league-in-record-chinese-tv-rights-deal/
The English Premier League has sold its television rights in China for about £564 million (€660m), marking its biggest-ever overseas sale.
Online video streaming service PPTV, a media division of China’s Suning retail group which also owns Italian football club Inter Milan has agreed a three-year deal from the 2019-20 season.

Which has just been outbid by an online service because they offered more money. Guess that kinda ruins your argument hey?The current rights holder is a FTA broadcaster.
