He was always a LONG term project anyway!!

Seriously in 2 more years is where we know if Hine dun gorn fooked up! /hill billy off.

I've said it before (probably on this thread) ....in 2016 Sier was the work experience kid. In 2017 he will be a first year player (but with work experience)

The one player that was picked early that should be pushing for regular 22 is Broomhead. If he doesn't work out thats 2 picks wasted in the same draft when we were meant to be replacing premiership players.

Whats that got to do with Sier?

FWIW Kennedy wasnt a wasted pick, he was on traded along with Seedsamn (neither who could get a game) to help us land Howe, a genuine AFL lsenior player. So although he didnt work out his value held sufficiently for us to still do pretty well. And we got Grundy. Add a clear run with Ramsay and Broomhead (yes he needs a good 2017) and it still could be a decent draft/trade period for us. Especially considering Dawes is now finished and replacing that particular premiership player was unequivocally the right call.

But I dont get the connection between Broomhead and the thread topic.

Yes it's a big year for Broomy. As well as Elliot coming back, we have brought in 2 established contestants for his spot this year (Mayne and WHE). So he has a big challenge ahead of him to get into that forward line.

You make a very strong case about a relative bunch of nonames taken after Sier.

Sier is being more harshly judged than he should be because he was the first player we picked after trading away our first pick. If we have drafted another nobody with our first pick then Sier wouldnt have got nearly the scrutiny he is under...being the second player chosen.. But we wouldnyt have Treloar...
Treloar and Sier

We already are winning on that trade configuration.

That list he wrote conveniently excludes Marcus Adams, who was fairly amazing this year.

I'm pretty convinced many Collingwood Bigfooty fans falsely consider Sier a first round pick. Maybe its the number 35 thing....but no. Our first round pick was spent on Treloar. A bargain. Leave Sier alone !!!

Theres always an exception to the rule when rewriting history (ie redoing the draw using hindsight) . But Adams or no Adams many players taken after Sier have done just as little as Sier..to date.

Maybe Adams should have gone higher?

The guy can play, has a touch of class just needs more resilience and a good clear run. He needs to get early games or may want for opportunity later.

You're right. Adams slipped through. The players I mentioned were mostly midfielders as Sier is. Would be interesting whether Adams was even on our radar given we had Brown, Frost, Keeffe, Reid, Marsh and Scharenberg on our list at the time.

Scharenberg would have been irrelevant to the decision as he doesn't play key position, but you're right about the others. It's a shame, because with hindsight we would have been all over him :(

KPD is not scharenburg's game, but only 2cm in height difference and about 10kg in weight between he and Marcus Adams. Recruiting team may have thought that Shazz could be used in that role in emergencies if required.

After he got spanked playing KPD when Marsh went down v Sandringham in the VFL I'd have thought any illusions of him playing KD would have been shattered.

Haven't seen anyone say he was a first round pick. Happy to be corrected.

Didnt say they have said it outright, just that it appears to me that the expectations placed upon him to deliver immediately are similar to the expectations normally placed on first roound picks

Cannot for the life of me understand people coming on here and potting blokes who have yet to even string more than a few VFL games together.

It's that or go to the beach/mow the lawn/read a book. Amazing that a player's prospects can go downhill with zero football being played.

Its called being annonymous and gutless keyboard warriors who probably dont even know how to kick a footy

You won't be corrected no one has expressed that opinion nor does anyone hold it!

Well that's good news. Presumably now that it's all clear, people might relent from getting stuck into an under-aged player who was injured in his first year of football and taken at a second round selection.
