It's an exaggeration. Wouldn't actually be allowed. Please clarify your Daicos hypothetical - its seems very unlikely that he would have been eligible for EAL.
Otherwise the system is truely stuffed.

Could the news article be incorrect? Perhaps he studied Auslan as a LOTE and they got this wrong? It's an exaggeration. Wouldn't actually be allowed.
Hearing impaired kids are automatically allowed to do ESL, even when they have hearing aids that enable reasonable hearing and English is clearly their first language.Could the news article be incorrect? Perhaps he studied Auslan as a LOTE and they got this wrong?
The only other way I could think of is if McLarty went to a school that taught predominantly in Auslan and then transferred to a mainstream English school in Year 8/9.

English as a Second LanguageWhat is ESL?
I'd assume it stands for English as Second Language. What is ESL?
English as a second language for you?Yes I am.![]()

Not sure the reformed has remained reformed. You certainly seem to have done your homework on this subject and your arguments seem well-founded. However, it's Sam McLarty you're talking about here, a Collingwood player earmarked (no pun intended) by some as our next FB. You are treading on eggshells here with a dissenting view on the guy's scholastic achievement. Personally I am going to spend more time checking out some of our lesser known players - such as Schade. TG is mounting a campaign for him in another thread, quite a lay-back place to chill and savour the mellow vibes of a temporarily reformed poster.

I tried to read back to figure out what and who you were referring to. The last 3-4 pages have all been about studying English as a foreign language and GG mixing up Schade and Scache. In fact if Anzacday was even-handed with his off-topic post shifting to the Freeman thread the whole last 3 -4 pages should go. So what are you referring to? Are your referring to those who think the rules around qualification for EFL is too loose as being the dissenters? It remains amusing to see those with dissenting views throwing tanties when said views are disparaged . . .
Errrm dissenting views are by definition - in the minority
By all means dissent but throwing tanties when said dissent is attacked is just plain funny![]()
To move to a more positive Sam McLarty topic.
Does anyone think he will play a senior game this season?
I think he might play say up to three games, if we get an injury or two.
I'm going for yes.

Must you dredge up my dreadful error again?! I must say I am now more firmly in the camp of those who think the ESL qualification rules are too lax. If that places me in a minority and deems me a tantie thrower then so be it.I tried to read back to figure out what and who you were referring to. btw.. you can "discuss" a topic without needing to "attack" the opposing view and those who hold it... it can be done.
I think he will play a game or two. I hope he doesn't have to because KPP's selected at pick 30 would not normally play in their first year. It will be an indication of our weakness in tall stocks if he does get a game.To move to a more positive Sam McLarty topic.

If he does it will mean he is going pretty well or we are struggling to keep players on the fieldI say there is a Good Chance he could play Some AFL Games

I must say I disdain the tantie thrower, the panty thrower however....Must you dredge up my dreadful error again?! I must say I am now more firmly in the camp of those who think the ESL qualification rules are too lax. If that places me in a minority and deems me a tantie thrower then so be it.
Are you the guy with the bar in Chiang Rai? If so, you would be capable of throwing a panty or two. I will get up that far one day. Not the panties but your northern neck of the woods. Maybe this year.I must say I disdain the tantie thrower, the panty thrower however....
Or conversely an indication of his tremendous talentI think he will play a game or two. I hope he doesn't have to because KPP's selected at pick 30 would not normally play in their first year. It will be an indication of our weakness in tall stocks if he does get a game.
Um .... possibly!Or conversely an indication of his tremendous talent

I think he'll debut early and I can seeing cementing himself in the side by seasons end, there's something about this kid that I like.To move to a more positive Sam McLarty topic.
