Officer Grace Gatpandan said Raiders suspended OLB Aldon Smith is "cooperating with SFPD" regarding an incident which occurred over the weekend.

Gatpandan did not disclose the nature of the investigation, saying just that Smith "was mentioned in the report." TMZ Sports reported Smith is being investigated for a "domestic incident." Hoping to get reinstated in March, this is a bad look for Smith even if the investigation comes to nothing.

Looks like he is done. Better off without him. He only looked good besides a top DE in SF anyway.

Nothing has changed. Raiders and the NFL are full steam ahead. Adelson has publicly stated they won't stand in the way of the Raiders coming to Vegas should the Raiders find another investor to cover the 650 million gap, not that it will be 650 million (closer to 300 million) but you get the point I'm trying to make.

Is there any chance that there will be a change to divisions or Conferences? Given the Rams and Chargers are in LA and the Raiders potentially moving?

Rams and chargers are in different conferences so it's alright. Raiders and chargers going to LA both from the same conference would've meant one of them changes

New Raiders OC Todd Downing:

Downing was taking part in a conference call with Bay Area reporters Wednesday, his first media appearance since being promoted from quarterbacks coach on Jan. 14, and he gave his vision of running the Raiders' high-powered offense as a first-time coordinator.

Mainly, Downing sees himself as an if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it kind of guy. And since the Raiders had the No. 6 total offense in the league last season (No. 13 passing, No. 6 rushing), that should be a good thing, no?

Downing will continue to work with Carr, who finished tied for third in NFL MVP voting. Carr’s older brother David recently said the unique relationship between player and coach will only help, suggesting Carr was stifled by Musgrave.


“He wanted to give Derek freedom, but at the same time, [Musgrave thinks], ‘I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I have a certain way of doing things,’” the elder Carr told 95.7 The Game during Super Bowl week. “I think you’ll see a lot more freedom for Derek at the line of scrimmage, some more flexibility there.”

Downing did not dispute that notion. Rather, he said Carr made “big strides” this past season in his command of the offense, in being the field general and going through progressions more efficiently and getting his footwork on point.

“I certainly want him to remain focused on all of those attributes,” Downing said.

It's pretty straight forward. There were issues with Bill Musgrave adapting to the needs of the offense, giving Derek more input and what not, which has ultimately led to his departure. Downing and Carr are joined at the hip, the two of them have a great relationship. This is only going to help our offense going forward.

Musgrave last year talked about how Derek had 'graduated' to the next level of the scheme. Well with Musgrave out and Downing promoted we've 'graduated' to the next level in Derek's development. Sorry, Billy.

Top FAs would want to come to Raiders now. Not just top FAs, but top FAs currently on teams who were "elite" teams just a year or two ago. Abandon ship and bank on the Raiders as a team likely to win a Super Bowl soon.

Eg, Arizona is done and dusted now. Palmer is too old, and they have no future QB. Will take them 5+ years to find one.

There are many other similar teams where the window was open for them but now it's looking less likely, and the Raiders instead the next "most likely" team.

Also, as in, THEY are the ones getting their agents to call Reggie. FAs now proactively seeking the Raiders. Us having a choice. Reggie not having to try to win them over. Raider Nation not having to try to twitter-convince them.

You make a good point GG, but you overlook the simple fact that players coming off their rookie deal are not so inclined to go to teams on less money for a greater chance at a ring. The guys you see that happening with are vets who are going to take a 1 year deal at under market value. Someone like Anquan Boldin for instance.

You're not going to see a guy like Tony Jefferson turn down big $$$ elsewhere to get a contract that is under value in Oakland.

Your assumption that the Raiders haven't had players wanting to play for them is partially true. That being said, agents have always contacted the Raiders, even going back to the mid 2000s when they were terrible, for two reasons: 1, they drove up interest leading to inflated contracts elsewhere, and 2 being that the Raiders themselves would overpay guys in free agency.

People are setting themselves up for failure thinking that the Raiders are going to be big players in free agency this year.

It's much ado about nothing. He wanted to be a Raider last year and the Raiders wanted to make it happen, it.just didn't.

He's a gun tho and would be perfect with Karl Joseph. Not sure if we get him and I'm not convinced it's THAT high on our list of.priorities.

I don't really like AJ Klein much at all. Don't think he'd be an upgrade over Malcolm Smith tbh.

Campbell although 30 years old, is EXACTLY what our D needs on the line. He's the perfect fit in both base D and when we go into our sub packages. Is a two-way player. Arizona would be fools to let such a great player go.
