I've been critical of WW since AFL2 came out, the absolute joke of a game that was led me to believe that this wouldn't be too great either, but WW have been fairly in touch with this forum and social media for a while now and I'd assume they would be aware of issues in the game and patch them accordingly. I don't think they will turn a blind eye to the game now that it's released.

Thought the game was selling for $79. Most games come with their issues.

I haven't seen them interact much with anybody. I mean, did people ask them to replicate the PS2 footy games again? I don't recall anything like that.

The marking system is exactly what I had spoke out against, prior to the game being released. I said they should avoid the IR Gurus style, but they've managed to replicate it to a T. I haven't a clue why people keep thinking we just don't get the game. I knew for a while it was going to be a low budget game made for a quick buck.

I'm not saying there aren't legitimate criticisms to be made. The learning curve for marking is way too high and poorly explained. Very un-intuitive. Also, spilled balls from contests should happen way more often, including regularly when two or more opposing payers are trying to mark a ball.

I'm talking about the people that complain the game is unplayable because they were winning by heaps on easy but turned the difficulty up to medium and are getting smashed by the AI. IMO, too many criticisms went along the lines of "I played two games and didn't know how to do X so I'm mad."

Whoops, posts gone. My argument was, you don't need to know how to play the game, to know they emulated the PS2 games marking system. I don't know if that was on purpose, or if that's just the default thought for a developer to think that's how the marking should work in a footy game.

gotta remember to not hold down R2 when taking a mark, literally get pinged for play on or holding the ball everytime,

had a play around with some players stats in my team, seems to play a fair bit better now

It does seem like AFL Evolution is a big step up from AFL Live 2.

It's exactly the same game to me. Only modified a little. The on goal set shots probably the only positive thing, but even that has a lot of issues. The ball physics feel like a boomerang or a balloon zooming past at times.

well, i played Live 2 the other day and Evolution to do a comparison, doesn't feel like the same game to me..

gameplay and graphics significantly better than Live 2...

obviously..

The marking system, the camera turns, ball ups, ball movement, the run up for goals. It's the same mechanics.

ball movement is mostly different, definitely improved ball physics in my opinion, much more stable than Live 2, not perfect though..

it's the AI kicking that annoyed me the most in the game..

Are games like this full price in the current market?
Games like what?

The big games that sell heaps are full price to cover their huge budgets.

The small games that don't sell heaps are full price to cover the small sales volume.

Its very simple.

Not all small games sell for 70-100 bucks though. Here I think the licence is a huge factor, as you could slap that on anything and it'd sell like hot cakes.

Only took 7 online games in to find someone with an edited team with speed of their players maxed out GG :thumbsu:

Ground looks like PS1, look at that pixelation. It's terrible. Players look like ps2 with jaggies.
Nah it's about on the level of early PS3/360 games. People seem to have a tendency to remember video game graphics as being better than they actually were.

If people think AFL Evolution looks like a PS1 game, then they are freaken blind!

How many more games can we realistically give them though? They've been making AFL games for something like 8 years and we're only just now getting to what is considered a good base, the same point we were at 6 years ago. Every time we go, oh well, maybe they'll get it right next time. Admittedly, this time they got a lot more things right. But they also got things like the magnet pairs so wrong at the same time.

I have no doubt that they gave 100% at making this game. I can see a lot of work has gone into it. But I kind of think of it like being a brain surgeon. Some people could study for 20 years and still not make the cut. Which doesn't fault their endeavour or effort, they just lack the capacity to be able to be at the right level. It's pretty clear that like Big Ant did with DBC17, WW bit off way more than they could chew with AFL Evo (tons of modes and features/AFLW, yet so many simple things wrong like applying the right commentary names, AI goal kicking, and most of Be A Pro mode). It remains to be seen whether WW can chew what they've bitten off, will be very interesting to see where it sits after a patch or 2 (remembering AFL1 has the benefit of a couple patches too).

As many games as it takes. It took EA many years before they were able to deliver the great game FIFA is right now.

Only by today's standards. FIFA games were always above average. Even back in N64 days FIFA was considered the pinnacle of soccer games. FIFA Road to World Cup 98 was hugely popular. Hell, even FIFA 96 was considered very revolutionary at the time.

Just had the most realistic/fun game against the AI. 75-75 draw playing as Adelaide against Port, 5 min quarters on hard difficulty.

I basically tried to handball it as much as I could through the middle and only kick it when I had either marked it, or had a clear gap between myself and the opponents. I also never tried to mark it when the AI kicked it, I used spoil every time (using LB and the right stick). I felt like that reduced the tackle fest and helped free up space when I used the ball.

Maybe it was just me, but Adelaide V Port seemed like a good matchup. Had 'light rain' set as well. I wonder if the rain makes a difference at all.

edit - you can play overtime if its single player mode

double edit - just won with a golden point after overtime was also drawn.

**** me that was awesome
