News Blues face $1 million black hole as sponsor pulls out

Demetriou is a dog.

This.

Quite simply don't go near a company Demetriou is a chairman or director of. His rap sheet is horrendous:
-CareerOne down the drain and unable to pay for sponsorship that it has already received exposure for
-Acquire Learning (ACCC investigating the way its used the government rebate scheme to fleece taxpayers of $800M)
-Capital Health (lost 80% of its company value while in charge)
-Crown Resorts (18 of its staff arrested in China)
-Beyond Boundaries (Demetriou) ran the tender process for ClubsNSW betting, and - through no conflict of interest I'm sure - handed the tender win to.... CrownBet, 62% of which is owned by Crown Resorts

The bloke is a grub.

Build a great product & sponsors will come for sure. Hopefully shrewd businesses understand timing and come along for the ride ASAP. We don't need cash flow issues affecting any part of our rebuild.

Talk of AFL spending some money on Princes Park on the back of women's footy etc, could see a small increase in naming rights & maybe a bit more money in signage/billboards. But this will take a bit more time

The biggest issue we have at the moment is our lack of members (for size of our club) compared to our competitors. We probably have least 500,000 supporters around the country. But only 10% are members. We need to get to 12/13% to bring in another 1.5-2 million per year. I'm sure they will become members in time but some should be educated a little to the benefits for their club by not giving their cash to other clubs at the gate. Some folks simply can't afford to, which is fine, they are no less passionate.

Would love to see RR take over.
A clear message to the competition about the type of team we're building.

Dear Aph,

In light of recent media reports, I write to inform you that Carlton Football Club has been in regular communication with Acquire Learning, parent company of the Club’s co-major partner CareerOne, in regards to their current financial situation.

The Club has been aware of this situation for some time, and both parties have been in constant discussions throughout. As Acquire Learning looks for a resolution to their current financial situation, CareerOne will remain a partner of the club, albeit at a vastly reduced level. However we will need, over the coming weeks, to redistribute a number of its current sponsorship assets, including placement on the Club’s guernsey and shorts.

This clearly will present a sizeable commercial and financial challenge for the Club at this time of the year. That said, we have been steadily growing all areas of the Club, and despite this setback, we’ll continue to grow.

It is important therefore for our members to know this situation will not impact in any way on our football program. Our approach to this rare situation is that it presents an opportunity for our club to engage with new corporate partners who align with the journey that we talk about, and the very positive things we’re doing both on and off the field.

As a valued member, we just wanted you to hear from us ‘first hand’ in regards to this situation, and we thank you for your continued support of Carlton.

Go Blues!

Regards,

I do find it rather coincidental that the head of Career One is Andrew 'I'll protect Essendon' Demetriou.

However, putting to the side, I am extremely confident that the club will find a replacement sponsor very quickly. We are being spoken about in a very positive light right now and with back-to-back Rising Star nominations, the onfield future looks extremely bright.

In 2-3 years time we will be playing finals as well so the cost to get in now will be somewhat cheaper than it will be down the track.

In other words, I'm not worried about our sponsorship situation one iota.

You can guarantee no one's going to pay a cent more than $1 million now.

The deal that was done with Career One was a couple of years ago when we had Malthouse at the helm and we were like a rudderless ship.

Fast-forward to now and we are a professionally run club on the rise with onfield success expected soon enough. The price to be on our jumper when we are playing finals plus potentially winning a GF is certainly at more than a lazy $million.

I'd revel in the opportunity to sell that sponsorship (may even offer my services again), it would be one of the easier jobs you could take on, the selling points are just so compelling now.
