Saying something positive = sucking up, saying something negative = troll?

Sounds like you've found a convenient way to make any possible opinion into something nefarious.

Just saying I agree with Paladin and other posters making the point that your club should be putting in every effort to keep him.
Yes I agree too. Hope he stays. Hope Dixon recovers mentally from last Thursday too. He can be quite a forward target.

I dunno lol according to that guy we are don't think he had the greatest intel but yeah! tony saying he's going though should be interesting if we are making a play for Kelly that would be huge!

Polec was probably BOG on the weekend and is in contention for AA on the wing at the moment.

When I first saw McGov play, didn't think much of him, but have since seen that he is a very very good player. Has the potential to be your best tall forward in a year or two.

If you keep him, that is.
On what planet is Jared Polec in contention for AA? He's been good and had a great game on the weekend but would have to be atleast 10 infront of him for that position alone.

$$$. Still have to give raises to Laird and Cameron next year.
And why do we have no $$?? We lost Danger, we could afford to bring in Bryce Gibbs at 700k a year but can't afford to re-sign Lever and McGovern??

I don't think it's a money issue keeping that pair.

Also 119 tarps kochie poorts. Now that we've got all that out of the way, I'd be wanting to pay McGov at least $600k a year, but he could potentially command more. Difficult thing is the contract length. He could leverage for a longer contract, but clubs are finding they have drawbacks these days.

Who cares about 119? You don't need to default into thinking that every post is a troll.

I'd personally struggle with paying that much to Gov. He could be worth it, and could be a superstar, but it's a heck of a lot on potential. I'd prefer to pay less for a 4th year player, but can understand that other clubs may be offering overs.

Paying Gov more than any other forward and probably paying him just shy of what Sloane makes is an issue.

I know this is the Adelaide board, but be reasonable. Gaff, Atkins, and Brad Hill are around the same league as well, but there seems to be a decent amount of support from the neutrals for Polec's reputation as the best wingman so far this year.

The main difference between gws and our offers to kelly are $. We both are genuine flag chances. He will be our highest paid player. At gws hed be in their top 10 but never their highest. Playing infront of a fullhouse every other week would have to have some sway in it aswell. Like i said before our deal put to him is massive.

I hope you're right. Even if we don't actually land him, our club needs to start getting more aggressive and more ambitious in terms of the players we target and how hard we go after them.

Do you reckon that if he agrees to come here and McGovern chooses to go home then we could get a 1st for Gov and bundle that up with our own first in order to get Kelly? You'd think both WA teams would probably finish in that middle part of the ladder - about 5th to 12th - and we'll probably finish top 4, so you're looking at a mid- and a late-first round pick. Which probably wouldn't be that enticing to most clubs, but GWS could use them on academy players if they have any coming through this year, otherwise trade them on for future first round picks for use in later seasons?

We supposedly put the highest bid in for Jeremy Cameron a few years ago. It's been tried before.

Well Mackay is out of contract end of next year, so we can free up about $400k per season by pushing him into early (or overdue, depending on your perspective) retirement. You'd think we probably won't still have all of the likes of Cheney, Seedsman, Menzel, etc on the list. None of them would be on huge coin, but they wouldn't be on peanuts, either. Except Cheney, perhaps. But Menzel isn't getting the job done, so if he keeps going on his current trajectory he'll out given the chop whenever his contract ends. Seedsman is on OK player, but not a great one. You'd assume he'll get overtaken by younger players fairly soon. So assuming Menzel and Seedsman go and get replaced by a couple of draftees, that should free up enough $$ to pay at least the majority of Gov or Lever's fat new contract or cover the raises for Laird and/or Cameron.

And that's based on the assumption that Lever and Gov both want to stay and that we don't lose anybody else currently on good dollars e.g. Smith, Lynch, etc.

Yep, you're not going to land all (or even most) of them. But that doesn't mean you stop trying and just target the low-hanging fruit instead.

As much as I'm not his biggest fan (feel he's a tad soft) I can't disagree at all. He's been fantastic for you guys this year - I'd still say Gaff has been the best wingman by a significant amount so far but Polec would definately be up there.

Wasn't it $3m over 5 years? So that's "only" $600k a year. So yeah, well under $750k.

Still less than Tippett is on, and still a better player.

I was being a little extravagant in my approach but it was $550k over 5 years...

I'll correct myself..

not to mention Jenkins $550k/year over 5 years :drunk:

I always find it interesting who likes dumb posts like this

You'd have to be a halfwit to think jack darling was soft.

Gov is already equal to all of our forwards in his influence on a game and the best and only real contested mark in the forward line. How much do we want a flag? If he is the difference and we substantially overpay him over 2 years and we win a couple of flags, then that is the price of business. Has Boyd repayed the dogs back after his performance in last year's grand final? I would say a resounding yes.

Is the forward line holding us back from winning a flag???

I'm sorry, but that's just rubbish. GOV has shown potential to be equal to - and perhaps even better than - but he's not there yet.
