External pressure from the media definitely. The only good FAs left are Martin and to a lesser extent Reid. Questions will ramp up, particularly as we get closer to the end of the season. Martin and Richmond can (rightfully) chastise the media all they want but the questions won't stop. I was relieved when Fyfe signed, not cos I thought he'd leave, but that the club would stop getting grilled about it and we'd finally stop hearing about it.

Fyfe also would have relented because he knew Freo was where he wanted to be, and didn't want to cause negative press for the club, and most importantly, leave Freo's forward planning on hold. I mean, how could Freo get on the front foot for other players with Fyfe's position hanging over their head?

However, Martin doesn't appear to be taking the same thoughts in to account, and this is despite his clubs CEO making a public plea about the issue weeks ago.

Who is being massively overpaid at thr tigers making it hard for them to pony up the cash to keep their best player

It's weird isn't it. They have Rance/Cotch/Riewoldt/Martin/Prestia/Caddy

Drops off a lot after that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought we were still paying some of Yarran's contract and Deledios for this year.
If we are, it's dead money that should become free by years end.

Spot on. Fyfe was pretty careful not to make any definitive statements but he literally in about April that he'd sort his contract out in the second half of the year 'unless it's proving to be too much of a distraction, in which case we'll get something done pretty quickly'.

It's a world away from what Martin has been saying.

Fyfe has barely got a mention in Melbourne over the last few months. It's all been Kelly & Martin.

Fyfe signing will have 0 effect on the Martin speculation

If Richmond kick up a fuss and Dusty doesn't want to leave Richmond with nothing North could just swap Hansen for pick 105 to sweeten the deal. Compensation pick and Hansen is a damn good deal if you ask me. Both clubs happy and Dusty's happy.

Hansen for 105 is overs and no it wouldn't be a good deal at all, a pick in the teens and a dud key position player isn't a good deal, if by some miracle he wanted to join you. We would match and you'd be giving us your first pick.

what was his public plea?

... the Tigers are keen to get an indication from Martin and his representatives as to whether the 25-year-old is favouring staying at Punt Road or exploring his options.

“We’re probably approaching that time where we’d like to get a sense of where their heads are at,” Gale told ABC Grandstand on Saturday.

“We do have to plan and we've got the salary cap and other players, so I guess we’re approaching that point.”

Despite the club’s efforts to get a gauge on Martin’s decision, Gale stressed Richmond has plans in place regardless of whether the star midfielder decides to stay or leave.

RICHMOND chief Brendon Gale is confident of retaining star free agent Dustin Martin, saying the Tigers have a “really strong, compelling offer” for their midfield bull.

Wouldn't this be draft tampering? (not saying it doesn't or wouldn't happen)

Three words.

Pre
Season
Draft

Richmond can either take nothing or pick 10-15ish.

Lol ignorant fools say this every year and it never happens.

It does, but rarely.

Of course, it won't happen in this instance because Richmond can't afford to lose a mid to late 1st round draft pick.

I'm sure Brisbane will let him get past as well, not like they're crying out for quality players.
If you want to be taken seriously leave the PSD pipe dreams at the door.

Look who popped in.

How's that keeping Smith working out for the Cats?
No idea what you mean.

Richmond aren't confident that he's staying. That's not opinion.

I'm sure Brisbane will let him get past as well.........

They may as well if he has huge coin on his head and doesn't want to be there.

North are a 50/50 chance to have PSD 1 anyway.

Generally players will only screw over the team they're leaving in the PSD if they are disgruntled, which he isn't.
Same applies with Josh Kelly, who also won't be joining North.
