The irony is that if Melksham actually became what we thought he'd become he'd almost be the missing piece for us, he kicks goals, he can kick it low and flat and fast off both sides, nice balance of inside and outside and relatively quick and nippy.

He's found himself a real good situation now though, no pressure to actually become a proper midfielder. It's the football equivalent of moving out of home, but moving into your parent's garage.

Think he is benefiting from the fact that he isn't required to rack up a lot of ball in his role (Never been able to find a lot of it). He can kick some shockers but is generally a good kick both for goal and passing inside 50, and has done well as a defensive forward on a few HBFs. The 2nd rounder was still overkill but as we all know it was basically an advance payment for Hibberd 12 months later.

Not to put the kibosh on Lever, but the AFL webpage says the coaches survey reports this; When it came to the type of player needed for team success, nine of the coaches identified inside midfielders, with four pointing to key forwards. None rated key defenders in the 'most vital' category.

Interesting thing to note is in Woosha's interview on SEN I don't think he said even once that we were interested in Lever, just that he's a talented player, good young man, etc. And when asked if we'd made enquiries he said "You'd have to ask Adrian...Adrian makes a lot of enquiries".

Well if Dodo's acting on the shortcomings identified by Woosha, looks like it's an inside mid as priority.

It doesn't mean that most didn't tick the 'reasonably vital' category. We'll get an inside mid. It won't be Dusty. It's amusing that so many are pinning their hopes on him.

I'd hope so for mine the list of types we need I'd rank as:
1. Contested/clearance beasts (i.e. Hopper).
2. Key forward (depth is dangerously thin).
3. Ruckman (given both Leuey and Belly are injury prone, depth is very thin).
4. Good ball using outside mids.
5. Lock down small defender (to eventually replace Baguley).
6. Half back depth.
7. Small forward (would like to find one that's more defensively minded and selfless than Green).
8. Medium defender/forwards.
9. Key defender.

We don't play a game plan that requires a glut of inside mids. I've said I'd like us to go after Kennedy, Webb and or Balic so I don't even know what you're whinging about tbh

And 3 of 4 of those blokes are 300 gamers, there's been 85 of those. Doesn't take a mathematician to figure out how that stat might be a little skewed. Because I would consider only one of those guys an inside mid in mitch

All that playing more games does generally though is reduce the standard deviation from the average. It doesn't skew it at all.

my original point was you don't need to win those specific stats to win the game. So you guys have come in and made it for me. We beat Carlton and had 9 more shots on goal while losing contested and clearances.

I'm not talking total numbers, I'm talking averages. Also mate you realise I'm a scientist and engineer don't you? Part of what I do is to look at statistics, so pretty sure I'm a fair bit more qualified than you in that area.

Not sure he fixes out problems. Sure, he is an upgrade on a few blokes but I think we'd want to be down McGovern or Hoppers throat.

McGovern to partner daniher, or Hopper to take Watsons place and hopefully add some grit to a soft midfield.

Watching the Giants game and Hopper and Kennedy would be worth every penny to us. Both contested beasts Kennedy had 20 touches and 6 tackles and Hopper had 17 and 9 tackles in his first game back for a few months

Hopper with a full preseason would be so good. Need to find some junior footy footage of him playing half back so Dodoro will be interested.
