That was the gist of a good article posted earlier - Carr can do things no-one else would because he is on the fringe of the footy world, has most of his business outside the industry, and doesn't need the relationships with clubs/recruiters/other managers that other player managers rely on.In the eventuality that Dusty stays at Richmond, it would be a case of Ralph Carr bucking the trend. That is, when "Has put off talks until the end of the year" generally means "Gone!", in this case it means "Squeeze every possible dollar and benefit you can out of the club/s".
Might this result in more managers taking this approach, or is this something Carr is more able to do than Stride, for example, because he has such a limited player stable? It certainly requires a player who is willing to put up with the year-long speculation and to hold their club ransom for the duration.
Yes, I'm aware of that, which is why I noted this factor. However, I'm wondering if other player managers may end up taking a leaf out of his book and whether we'll see more players put off talks for longer, in the pursuit of better contracts. That was the gist of a good article posted earlier - Carr can do things no-one else would because he is on the fringe of the footy world, has most of his business outside the industry, and doesn't need the relationships with clubs/recruiters/other managers that other player managers rely on.

Love your optimism but I can't see it happening at all. He'll stayIf he has squeezed everything out of Richmond and is satisfied with the financial compensation and length of the deal then you sign the deal on the spot! Fyfe did it and was in the exactly the same boat as Martin. Said he would wait til the end of the year, was a RFA and had clubs throwing big money at him. Call me stupid, idiotic, dumb or insert your word here but if he hasn't signed by the end of the week (presuming the start of this comment is correct) I still think he is coming to Arden St
