"It;s not a distraction because especially at this time of the year you're focusing on wining football games"

"Tex has spoken to me - I think that's part of the captain's role" (and he speaks to all othe rplyaer - Guv, Kelly)

"He doesn't put it on you" - "Once you start putting pressure on players that's when it goes the other way" [this is something JJ also spoke of in an interview]

"For me when I make my decision that what it will be about" - combination of three things team success, family, money

"I don't want to be rushed into it - if it done before finals it's done, if not it's not".

I'll admit the person i heard the rumor from is a second hand source. My second hand source however is very very close to an all time Goal kicker.

The words were.
Lever - Geelong
McGovern - Perth
Cameron - Brisbane
Sloane - Saints (Belinda has a job in Vic)
Belinda works for c7 in Adelaide

Says his decision will be about a range of things.
Family, team success, money etc all comes into it.
He will analyse all of it and make a decision.

Hasn't met with manager yet since he got back.

He said it might get to the point where you put it off until end of year to concentrate on finals but that might come from the club even.
Or they might demand an answer before time.

Rowie is kind of putting words in his mouth though by saying you want to stay though so that's the starting point.
Jake is not openly saying that haha.
He's said it in the way that he could say later that he wanted to stay but putting all the factors together, he's decided to go.

Yeah, very much so

I find all this discussion about 'its the partners fault' quite difficult to grapple with internally.
yes, it's a marker of greater intra-relationship equality which is a good thing.
but I just can't understand how, for someone like Sloane - taking the example from the past few pages - he may give up his legacy as a one-club legend for the sake of his partner wanting to go home.

I would *never* ask my partner(s) to abandon something they're so passionate about... you do what you can, as a partnership, to work that kind of shit out!

have two houses, one in each city, use your ginormous salary to good effect and rack up frequent flyer miles, meet halfway for sneaky romantic rendezvous in Horsham, spend some time together, spend some time apart (a good thing for any relationship), try out ethical non-monogamy and spend some time with your other partner, get a puppy and spend some time with that... whatever floats your boat, just WORK IT OUT so you don't have to give up or compromise the thing that will define your entire life's work!!

people generally are just so stuck in conservative ways of thinking... think outside the box, people! it's terribly exciting out here!

I can understand the situation where they want to start a family and have their parents around as both a support structure and in their children's lives while growing up. If both sets of parents are in Melbourne then they may want to move back there to be with them.

Yes, they could delay having kids until post retirement. Alternatively, they could stay in Adelaide and have parents come across to stay with them. Or they may decide that moving to be close to family is more important to them than being a 1 club player, or even a slightly higher chance of premiership success. At that point the football club can't really win that argument.

So let's give him 2 out of three things. Success plus money. Just an extra 100k. Come on guys, it's not that much !

Let's hope that another big name player with a Victorian wife that wants to go home and was supposed to extend this year can sit down and have a chat with her about how you are a long time out of football....
Absolute rubbish

Firstly how would Geelong afford Lever's salary? Secondly, how would they get the picks needed to appease the Crows? I'm pretty sure they can't trade away their first round pick this year or next year.

Sloane who is contracted for next year?

Stop spreading shit.

Edit: you knwo what, my post didn't go far enough.

What you are suggesting is ludicrous. It would be the greatest defection of talent any club has experienced in the history of the AFL.

We're talking about nearly 3 million in salary cap walking out the door in a single year. It just wouldn't happen.

Those 4 players aren't on $3m in salary cap, even if you count Lever and McGovern's next contract values. That's $750k/year per player.

And he said he wanted to stay.

This is nuts. Where are all these rumours coming from if he wants to stay?

Melbourne "sources" ie one person has said something and it is taken as "truth" and the others all repeat it because they don't want to be left out and it means it is a discussion point they can talk about in respect to the crows without having to acknowledge they are playing well.
