Is Witherden, with 20 votes in about 10 games the best effort from a first year player since Geoff Southby in 1970?
Have to check the paper-based Bigfooty archives.
 
Witherden getting so many more votes than Mayes shows the flaw in not giving everybody votes like in the B&Fs.

I don't know it's really a flaw, just a different measure. If we had, say, been voting top 10s, Mayes would have made a lot of them. A substantial majority of them I suspect. He definitely played his role. Witherden was more spectacular but played fewer.

Voting top 10s would probably make us more accurate at predicting the M-M medal order, but is that the goal?

Goal would be to judge the best player of the year but a more accurate top 10 would be nice too.
