I just think having everyone on the same points, whatever that may be, is the better option. It still stops clubs bringing in a heap of new players every year.
Don't agree about penalising the Premier. They are normally the better run and harder working clubs. What if a club does it properly and develops within for about 5 years then is lucky enough to win a flag. They then get penalised?

Some clubs are ar a natural disadvantage when trying to recruit vs others and that is what the points differential tries to acknowledge. To say some clubs aren't hard working is a slap in the face to them and incorrect in my opinion

The reason I like how Bendigo are managing total player points is they are limiting the ability of the top teams to add 2 or 3 guns to an already strong, or even premiership team, for the following year. I don’t think a 38-point cap on Darley, Bacchus, Lakers and Redan for next year would affect them at all as they all played below or that level this year. It just allows the next two tiers of teams to recruit well, having the extra points to fit them in, to take another step. Look at Sunbury next year they lose 4 of their best so may have to add 8-good quality players to catch the top-4. How would they fit them in their points cap? Just like the AFL have the draft as a tool to even out the comp, we have the player points cap, but its not being used as well as it could be.

From memory the same teams have regularly played finals the last 6 or 7 years. They are Sunbury, North, Redan, Darley and Lakers. With the other spot over those years being taken by either Marsh or Ballarat or East.
You would have to restrict the points of the better clubs significantly for them to drop back a bit and let the others have some glory.
Won't know the full impact of points and salary cap for a few years. Might not even make a difference to equalisation but at least it's something to try.

I read with interest earlier today that the Ballarat Council have put up a tender for construction of four 200 lux grade light towers (the same as Alfredton, Wendouree and Marty Busch Reserve) at the redeveloped City Oval with the tender to close on 5th Nov. I must admit that I am surprised by this because back in 2005, a proposal by the Council to erect four competition standard light towers was opposed by local residents and the ground was subsequently limited to four 20m towers providing 50 lux (for training only between 5pm-8pm).

Redan FC won't know themselves, a new surface and being actually able to see stuff at night :)

I think that the BFNL would kill to get game attendances like these again. According to an old newspaper articile that I stubled upon recently, the BFNL hit a peak period between 1948 through to the mid 50s when attendances at some games were over 10,000.

BALLARAT COURIER:

How the North Roosters believe they will make it back into the VFL

October 23 2017 - 3:14PM

North Ballarat Football Club chairman John Nevett has revealed some bold plans he hopes will see a return to the Victorian Football League.

The establishment of a new club – which will include a new board and new name – is part of the discussions taking place as efforts are being made to win back the licence North Ballarat lost during September.

Nevett said an important part of the process was to organise a meeting with AFL Victoria to seek clarity around potential rivals for a licence out of Western Victoria. “At that meeting, the first thing that we will be doing is asking them whether or not there are other players for the licence other than ourselves, because we can’t go ahead and make all the changes if it’s just going to be a waste of time,” Nevett said.

Nevett said the potential new VFL club would receive a percentage of profits from the North Ballarat Sports Club, but would also require significant sponsorship funding to operate. A new name is definitely on the agenda, but Nevett felt the Roosters tag should probably stay. “If we come back, we’ve got to be able to keep the history of the Roosters,” he told The Courier. “It has got to go away from North Ballarat. It has to be seen that this is a club that’s actually representing more than just North Ballarat or Ballarat for that matter.”

After significant cash concerns in recent years, Nevett said North Ballarat was now in a strong financial position to run a VFL program. This comes after the City of Ballarat forked out more than $5 million to North Ballarat to acquire the Eureka Stadium precinct. “That enabled us to clear our debt with the bank and enabled us to put something like $2.5 million or $3 million in the bank,” Nevett, who took over as chairman in February, said.

“And a year out of the VFL means there’s more money. And then there will be more money coming out of the compensation claim. That’s our view.”

Nevett said former chairman Peter Wilson had been involved in recent discussions after offering his support to the board in recent weeks. He said he hoped Wilson could spearhead the board of a potential new VFL club.

If a new VFL club is to be created, Nevett hinted at potentially merging the boards of the North Ballarat Football Club and North Ballarat Sports Club, while keeping the existing North Ballarat Junior Football Netball Club set-up, which runs teams in the Ballarat league.

Personal Comment:
I can only imagine that the potential rival bid will come from the AFL Goldfields and I wouldn't expect the VFL or AFL Victoria to be too forthright about 'rival bids' to Mr Nevett. I think that he's being optimistic to believe that they will share that information with him, considering how tightly they play their cards to their chests and kept the Roosters in the dark in the past. I suspect that the VFL and AFL Victoria will be happy to string the 'Roosters' along and to pull the rug from under them again. That's my opinion for what it's worth. I could be wrong, but I don't think that I am :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Too many posts about a club from another league that no longer exists.

I see Sebas have a few signings from the Roosters debacle. Could they improve enough to get off the bottom?

I suppose the question is, whether Ballarat Football can afford to have an all powerful and cashed up North Ballarat City football team in the BFNL? Because the BFNL wouldn't be able to put caveats or constraints on a seriously cashed up North Ballarat City as presently exists if the football department and finances from a defunct former VFL team were merged. It has significant implications for all of the wrong reasons.

The great minds at the BFNL won’t allow that to happen.

I'm not sure anyone wants the powers that be at AFL Goldfields devoting their time to meddling in club affairs.

It is great to see Sebas getting some quality through the door, much like Sth this year, just being more competitive in the short term will make them a more attractive proposition going forward.

Its looking like we might see a dramatic increase in the quality of the Ballarat League next year. Quite a few VFL players have already signed with Ballarat based clubs and Eastern clubs and there's also talk of a lot more signing. Add to that the players like Sherlock re-signing and Kennedy returning. I can't see why the BFNL don't update the clearances on their website, surely with the amount of staff they have, keeping that up to date wouldn't be too difficult. At least then we could see who was recruiting and who were losing players.

Clearances don’t open til Nov 1

Tell ya what south copped a Wack last year about spending surely there has to be doubts about Darley
Sebas must be cashed up too, hearing they just signed the Roosters 2017 B&F winner to go with Hausler, Lockyer, Austin and coach Hutchinson. More to come too! Not sure how they fit them into their 48-point cap when they played in the 40's quite a bit last year.

With fev on 80k, Scotland surely wouldn't have been far off that. So that money that went in the cap would pay for the recruits. Also heard that although none are leaving maybe not all can commit to a full season for various reasons. And good to see you posting again, went quiet there for a while. What's happening at south? Comings and goings?

Lockyer 1 pointer helps a little
