This morning maher said some kind words about ox and marko. Described them as being a key part of the station from practically day dot. He was genuine in his words, and was heartfelt. Gonna post this in the 4th estate SEN thread too

There's been a strong reaction on social media over the last couple of days - pretty much every news outlet reporting the story has received hundreds of "SEN just lost a listener" type comments. It will be interesting to see what the long term effect is - I tend to flick between SEN and MMM on the way home from work but I might just stick to podcasts in protest of not so much the fact that they were let go but the way it happened.

Where do I find that thread. The thing is it happens everyday in all forms of employment , it's life.

I have thought about it and I guess it wasn't just Mark Robinson that caused me to stop listening to SEN.

Before SEN I listened to MMM all weekend, I loved the chemistry between Chief, Newman, BT & Doc. I found it to be entertaining then slowly I found myself noticing that less time was being spent talking about the footy and issues around that and just time spend joking with each other, talking about themselves, asking inane questions to guests that I didn't particular care if I knew the answer or not. It became Garry Lyon, JB, Frawley & Purple just talking over each other and wobbling heads... Which is small doses I found funny but I need balance, people like Glenn Wheatley, Anthony Hudson, Stephen Quartermain... I don't particularly like those guys but they tend to have a more journalistic approach to things instead of just being an ex-footy player.

When I started listening to SEN I liked Tim Watson's humour and the way Ox and Marco connected to their audience. Neither of those two were journalists but I enjoyed the humour though over time it just seemed like it became more of a boys club and less about issues I personally cared about.

I remember the day I stopped listening to SEN daily and that was during the Jake Carlisle cocaine saga. From memory it was during trade or draft time, I wanted to know more about what each club was looking for, what they needed and instead in the morning I got 20 minutes of Carlisle... CLICK. Lunch time I turn it on in the car... Harf Time is talking about Carlisle.... CLICK. Driving home from work Robbo is on The Run Home with Ox & Marco... talking about bloody Carlisle doing coke. CLICK. That was it, I didn't care anymore. I don't care if Jake stabs himself in the leg with a knife let alone does cocaine. It's his life he can do what he likes. I wanted to know about the bloody trades or drafts!

Anyway rant over I guess. My personal hope is that they blend humour with AFL news and small amounts of opinion, good chemistry between hosts and guests and I can go back to listening to SEN daily, or I find some other network that fills those interests.

Just had a look at SEN's FB page, wow, a LOT of unhappy listeners there re the Marco and Ox sacking. One comment I thought was interesting, someone said Hutchy would trash the station so it would fail and he could sell the licence (paraphrasing). No idea if this is plausible but it was a different take on the situation. I'm thinking it's just personalities and who is mates with who. As time goes on I think it looks like Marco will be retained in some capacity, he hasn't been as vocal about the sacking as Ox so maybe he is staying on.

There is now a 3rd HS article on the sacking and the original article had 250+ comments, with roughly 85% in support of the pair. The most recent article had a poll asking "Do you agree with SEN’s decision to replace David Schwarz and Mark Allen" and 88% of the 4500 people that voted said no. I'd say their popularity has surprised those in management at the station.

as someone who fell out of love with SEN a long time ago im glad for some big changes.
sure it probably wasnt handled in a nice fashion but its a brutal industry.

that said, if its nothing more than a change of personnel providing the same tired content then it really doesnt matter who the hosts are.

The insult of "3 words in a row is a miracle" Mooney taking over, made the decision to turn it off easy

You do realise Moons and Granland are not 'taking over' but just the summer break fill ins and there will be someone else doing it permanently next year.

I do

Same feeling

I don’t necessarily agree with all the criticism SEN is getting about how it happened, as it isn’t an easy situation to handle. They were coming out of contract and in this business, if you haven’t received an offer by the time the final show has aired, should you really be surprised that you won’t be there next year? I know Ox isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but how could he be so surprised by it? The writing was well and truely on the wall by getting to the final show without a contract for next year. The word “sacked” was an emotive term by Robbo.

Letting someone go is never easy and it seems SEN sat them down and looked them in the eye after the final show and told them that they wouldn’t be there next year. Look at Hughesy and Kate and the 2day FM hosts who found out about their sacking via the news on how not to handle a sacking in this industry. Maybe they could have given them notice to let the listeners know a month ago, but then SEN are in the position of where RSN were when they sacked Christian and McGuane and had callers abusing management to the point where they had to be yanked off air anyway.

I also thought it was a classy statement by Mark Allen that was in the paper the other day.

To be honest, Ox has felt like he's phoning it in the last couple of years.

What do you mean "phoning"?

Slimy.
Not funny.
Shit voice.
FAR TOO MUCH racing rubbish.
Too old school, tries too hard.
Worst on the station by a mile.
FAR TOO MUCH racing rubbish.
Slimy?

I've had the impression that he does try a tad hard.

As far as racing is concerned. Is it too much?

When he does go on about specific issues in racing. I'm not sure he quite gets that the wider public just doesn't give a shit. But maybe I'm wrong about that?

Champagne radio then SEN.

Last quarter of NBL coverage. Broadcast cuts out to be followed by backup music for 2-3 minutes. Cut back to the commentary in time to hear “He’s a ****ing dumb c**t”...quickly back to music and then broadcast starts again like nothing happened.

Fix it Huctchy.
